I think Daniel's trying to do what Miyagi would do instead of taking what he learned from Miyagi and adapting it into his own methods. This is a common conundrum seen with coaches, managers, teachers, even businesses. For many years, after Walt Disney's death, Disney tried to do things "the way Walt would have done them" and they made a string of bad movies for years in the 1970's. It wasn't until the 1980's when Jeffrey Katzenberg and Michael Eisner came on board and brought some fresh ideas and we got "The Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", and "The Lion King".
Johnny is doing similar teachings with his students, but at least he's learning how to evolve as a sensei and not do everything as Kreese would do it. As the show progresses, we will see how Daniel does as a sensei, but he's so obviously still copying from the Miyagi playbook and thinking that his students should follow instructions as he did. Not every student is the same and as a teacher you have to learn to treat each one on a case-by-case basis.

"Iron Eagle" is a guilty pleasure, but it's so much fun. "Top Gun" was a massive hit when it came out and I went to see it with my sister, Mom and a couple of friends. I was 14. Personally, I thought the movie was really aimed more at women than men, but that's just me. Tom Cruise kind of turned me off at the time because he was always playing these arrogant, cocky guys who were the BEST at everything. The best pilot. The best pool player. The best race car driver.
So I'm going to side with Sense Lawrence on this one. :) And I highly recommend you and TBR check these two out. Double feature night!

I honestly think Daniel should have been smart enough to know that total strangers would not buy into the doing chores is learning Karate thing. He should of had some plan to get their confidence, and then explain how doing medial tasks will give them muscle memory for the basic moves of Karate.

Too bad they didn't get the Pat Benatar song, "Fire and Ice", for this episode.

FWIW I consider "Iron Eagle" to be better than "Top Gun". I think Sensei Lawrence would concur. ;-) "Top Gun" had a better soundtrack, though.

By far, Jean-Claude Van Damme's best film IMHO. His earlier films were really good.

Yeah Blood Sport is pretty awesome, and has a sequel. It's also based on a true story which I thought was interesting.

"Bloodsport (1988)" is definitely one of the most popular and well loved martial arts movies of the 80's,the fighting scenes are brilliant
The movie gets a much bigger reference in season 4 of Cobra Kai too,a Bloodsport reaction on the channel would be cool

I didn't even realize the fire vs. ice aspect until TBR said that.
