Se7en (1995) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Se7en (1995) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

“We’ll take care of him” means the police department will push for an insanity plea if it’s the last thing they do.

David W.

One piece of dialogue that I think always gets lost in the final scene because of everything else that is louder (but closed caption sometimes picks up) is Morgan Freeman saying “If you murder a suspect, David… it’s death row all the way and you know it.” which further implies all the sin victims do die in the end. Obviously either way his life is over but still

Ricardo Alanis

if you watch Alien 3 please watch the "Assembly Cut" essential scenes were cut out or redone in the theatrical version. Makes the movie better by a long run.

Rachael Albrecht

TBR Schmitt

Super easy...

PapaXan

Not a problem. Barely an inconvenience.

Jason Dolan

Haha thanks! He’s feeling much better 😊 oh I hadn’t made that connection, but that’s cool that this is the original of that! I have seen (and loved) Panic Room, but daniel hasn’t! I’m literally obsessed with Mindhunter! I watched it when it first came out and I was hooked! I wish I could watch it for the first time again. Top 5 shows of all time for me! -Sam

Man. I forgot about the knife dildo. Also- check out The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for more prime Fincher.

Shaun2342!

Absolutely not a big deal. You guys are great so having to wait a few minutes is not an inconvenience.

PapaXan

Oh no! Sorry about that PapaXan! We scheduled it while we were watching next week's films based on the upload time YouTube gives us, but sometimes it's off :( -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Another good Morgan Freeman detective movie is "Kiss the Girls" (1997). A great heist movie is "Inside Man" (2006). And "Gone Girl" (2014) is a must watch mystery!

Nicotti

1) Recommending ‘The Game’ by David Fincher (my favorite of his films). 2) Yes, that disturbing song in the beginning was Nine Inch Nails.

PIG

I concur. Good choice. I also recommend The Bone Collector (1999) with Denzel Washington

Scott Kerr

Frailty was crazy.

Donna Castellano

The Game would be a great David Fincher film to watch with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn.

Raymond DeGraw

Se7en stays with you forever. I highly recommend Zodiac too.

Jen Barnes

I meant to put the opening credits track. I knew the end one, since that's my favorite David Bowie song. Yeah, I'm weird

Donna Castellano

The one small ray of hope in this bleak, disturbing (albeit brilliant) story is that a man who had already given up the fight and decided to quit finds a reason to fight again. "Ernest Hemingway once wrote 'The world is a fine place and worth fighting for.' I agree with the second part." I've always taken that to mean Somerset feels the world is worth fighting for, in spite of it not being a fine place, because it's the only world we have. Maybe, just maybe, the fight will one day make it a fine place.

Steve Mercier

Social Network and Zodiac along with Se7en are his best films

f hf

Oh yeah, I remember watching this back then on VHS for the first time. I was a teenager in a post-communist country and never seen anything like this before. No one did, that's why it was so popular around here and it was aired in TV quite a lot. The whole movie was hell of a disturbing rollercoaster and it stuck with me for a long time. I've thoroughly enjoyed your reaction, especially the jump scares, shock moments and Dan's keen investigative mind (bonus points for calling out NIN in the opening credits). I also loved Sam's intro. Do more of those in the future 🤙🏼 From Fincher's body of work I'd recommend Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network (all these come with a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross) + Zodiac. Fincher is a master of visual storytelling. If you like his movies, I definitely recommend some YouTube essays on his direction techniques.

David Lengyel

That was one of the most intense reactions I've seen. It's like I had dread on your behalf. I waited until this morning to watch the last 10 minutes as if that was gonna spare you the darkness for a while, even though you'd seen it days ago! I think you'll love The Game (1997). A Great mind-bender, which is a truly unique experience on your first viewing, and great for reactions. It's my favourite David Fincher film, and I'm jealous that you still get to watch it for a first time.

Future Boy

Fincher's take on TGWTDT is absolutely phenomenal and one of my favorites directed by him right up there with Se7en and Gone Girl. The way he works with tension is truly something to behold, especially if one have the comparison with the movie of same era and source material. There's been a lot of film theorist takes on this movie available on YouTube. Great stuff.

David Lengyel

End credits track is "The Hearts Filthy Lesson", a certified banger by the thin white duke himself: David Bowie.

Christopher B.

A great, unappreciated movie nobody reacts to is "Frailty". It stars Matthew Mcconaughey and Bill Paxton. You guys should watch it!

Gratch... just Gratch

From your list, I'll watch along on these two. Some of my favorites. And it's been just long enough for me to have a re-watch. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo The Game

Gerald Corona

Fincher is amazing. You totally need to watch The Game. Also, Alien 3 but only the Assembly Cut, which is his version. Not the one most people have seen and hated in theaters.

Domino

For future Fincher reactions, you've got to do Zodiac and Social Network. I would love to see/hear your takes on both of those. The Game and Panic Room are both solid also. I don't think Fincher really has a miss in his filmography. Alien3, his first feature film, is probably his weakest, but it's well-known that it was the result of a major studio tampering with his vision for it and almost prevented him from doing studio movies again. But he's a true talent. One of my favorite filmmakers still working. And when the series schedule opens up, you should definitely check out his Netflix show, Mindhunter. Really great stuff. Anyway, another great reaction, folks. Look forward to the next.

Gary Giaimo

I love Zodiac for the filmmaking aspect and acting, etc but the info it proposes as to who Zodiac possibly was is incredibly outdated and has been debunked thoroughly. If you look at it as merely Robert Graysmith's theories - which it is, as it's based on his book - then it's enjoyable. I've been following Zodiac for years, so it does kinda bug me reactors who've done the film are like, "Oh, so that's who it was..."

Donna Castellano

Trivia: the production studio wanted to change the ending to a more "hollywood friendly" conclusion. Brad Pitt said if they change the ending, he"s out. Brad Pitt won of course . And..notice you never knew where they were. No city or state known, done intentionally to keep you off balance.

ron clint

Finished the reaction. As if Daniel didn't have enough to deal with already. Hope you feel better soon! The main thing I remember from first watching this film was it led me to Nine Inch Nails. I searched all over trying to find that end credits track, since it wasn't a band I was familiar with at all at the time. I've always been into crime and homicide stories so I liked the more realistic look at detective work with this movie. How Mills constantly fidgeting because he felt like sitting still wasn't solving a case. Then you have Somerset just casually sitting in a chair, going over files, like, "This is what the job is.". The character stuff is the most fascinating to me tho, esp with the mindsets of the police. I said before, it's fairly real representation of homicide. What they have to do to deal with things they've seen and compartmentilize that in order to function day to day.

Donna Castellano

Thanks for the great reaction to this movie. If you are looking for another great David Fincher film, I would recommend his other 90's film "The Game". Has always been one of my favorites. David Fincher does such a fantastic job of creating mood and atmosphere in his films. Thanks again!

Braden Derksen

I just finished watching this. I've been looking for a reason to watch this again and it was so much fun to vicariously enjoy it from someone who has never seen this before. Also, it reminded me how great this movie is. Sometimes it doesn't work that way. Sometimes the memory makes it greater than it was. Not in this case. It really is a great film. Kudos to Andrew Kevin Walker and David Fincher.

Philip Davetas

I think Se7en is a great film but it is very very very dark no doubt about it. Let me know if you want some romance or romantic comedy recommendations to help you recover.

Michael Soukup

I knew this would mess with your minds. The foreshadowing, misdirection and storytelling made this the perfect movie. Your reactions to the scene of Sloth waking up was the same scene that made the full theatre I was in jump out of their skin.

Jah (jakwiq) (Jah Quick)

That's MAYBE my favourite scene in the entire film. In a movie that is overwhelmed by debasement and misery... it's such a haphazardly joyous moment of levity... I love it so much :)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Here's hoping it does some good, ty for the link :)

Sarah

"Nothing else like it." Indeed. Out of everything you've watched, I'd say that this and Unforgiven might be the only two flawless films you've reacted to. Like them or not (and I TOTALLY get why some people wouldn't like them,) there's NOTHING that I'd change about either of them. Not a single thing. I was lucky that I got to see this one in the theatre (knowing NOTHING about it... like everyone else there.) When the "sloth" victim coughed, demonstrating that he was still alive, the ENTIRE FUCKING MOVIE THEATRE jumped 2ft out of their seats! It was wondrous :D So, yeah, there are a handful of Fincher films left that you need to watch: Zodiac, The Game, Panic Room, Gone Girl, and Alien 3 ("Assembly Cut"). Good luck getting them voted in, though :S

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Surprised myself being moved by Somerset and Tracy laughing as the train is shaking the apartment.

Will Zamora

Big Fincher fan. Hope you run thru most if not all his films: The Game ,is fun Panic Room Zodiac tremendous Benjamin Button Social Network must watch Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (remake, good , OG is better) Gone Girl must watch Mani pretty great

Charlie Keeler

Oh wow. I can't wait to see your guys' video on this. I've seen this a couple times. And loved it every time. When people say David Fincher's name I think of this and FIGHT CLUB and I remember why he's a master.

Philip Davetas

Ironically, Brad Pitt also lost the Supporting Actor Oscar that year (12 Monkeys) to Kevin Spacey (The Usual Suspects) and Freeman had just been nominated the year prior for The Shawshank Redemption. Powerhouse acting in that movie.

Jason Dolan

I had just started college when Seven came out in the theatres. Bored one weekday afternoon, I went to see it by myself. Having already been a long time horror and crime movie fan (as well as a fan of Nine Inch Nails, I heard that their music was involved) I thought this might be my kind of movie. I sat down to watch not really knowing what to expect. Cut to two hours later and I was totally blown away. The story was incredible and the movie was never boring. Morgan Freeman gave a tremendous performance as did Kevin Spacey. The dreary ambience and disturbing atmosphere of the film drew me in from the start. I'm a sucker for an interesting and intelligent script so Seven had me at the edge of my seat. It was, for sure, my favorite film of 1995.

Mike Tocci

Film for film, David Fincher has one of the all-time best filmographies, and I recommend pretty much all his movies. Of the ones you haven't mentioned seeing yet, I think the following would make good priority films: Zodiac Social Network Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Gone Girl The Game His others are all mostly good-to-great (aside from Alien 3, an at-best mediocre movie through no fault of Fincher), but the above listed are the heaviest hitters IMO. Curious Case of Benjamin Button gets a good deal of derision, but while not without its flaws, I still feel it too is an enjoyable watch.

Christopher B.

I remember coming home from the cinema, after watching Se7en. Just sitting on the bed in the dark with my head in my hands for way too long. I could not even articulate to myself how the film affected me.

Opti_Frog

Yes! Definitely took awhile to process after! Hope you enjoy, Steven! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Awesome! Thank you for the recommendations! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yay! Hope you enjoy! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

This is a perfect movie in my opinion, the atmosphere, writing, directing and especially acting are all on point. This is still my favorite David Fincher film.

Jim Tatro

This movie is a creepy work of art and Kevin Spacey is a great creepy actor, he definitely has a knack for being a villain oddly enough

Terry Lee

Great reaction guys. I watched this in the theater when it first came out and for obvious reasons it stayed with me for many months after.

Trader Joe

Here's the way you watch DAVID FINCHER in my opinion: Se7en Fight Club The Social Network (this should have won Best Picture and Best Director - he was ROBBED) Gone Girl (Rosamund Pike should have won Best Actress) Zodiac The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Rooney Mara should have won Best Actress) The Game Panic Room The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons Mank Alien 3 (but you can also never watch this) Fun fact, David Fincher's first credit was as an assistant cameraman on RETURN OF THE JEDI

Jason Dolan

Also the original opening was Somerset buying a house in the country, and he uses his switchblade to cut out a piece of the wallpaper. Then the train ride from the lovely countryside back to the dark rainy city was supposed to be the opening credits sequence. Then they decided to do the John Doe foreshadowing segment. But you can still see the piece of wallpaper on his bureau at the beginning of the movie when he is picking up his badge and switchblade.

Jason Dolan

Love the movie! Love the reaction! Movie Fact: Brad Pitt actually broke his arm in the movie and they wrote it in. He broke it jumping from car to car as he chased John Doe.

Philip Alan

This movie is a lot like JAWS where they don't show you the shark, and this movie is sort of the same with John Doe's kills. The only kill you see in this movie his his death. It's always the aftermath. Sort of funny how this movie is like comfort food to me, it relaxes me to have it on, and maybe this is my inner girl loving murdercast side of myself. The ending quote is actually something that really gives me hope: "Ernest Hemingway once wrote: The world is a fine place, and worth fighting for. I agree with the second part"

Jason Dolan

Great reaction. Hope Daniel is recovering well. I really hope that you guys watch more David Fincher in the future. Just wanted to add on that the last line is "the world is a fine place and worth fighting for. I agree with the 2nd part" It's shows that Mills got through to Somerset and he's no longer consumed by his apathy.

Joseph Tamburo

I had undiagnosed covid in January 2020 and had extremely bad tinnitus - it was so bad i thought about blowing my brains out - and the doctors couldn't figure out what it was - i discovered all of these tinnitus therapy videos that saved my life and i have been suggesting them to anyone i meet who has been suffering from tinnitus due to Covid. Here it is in case you ever needit! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TK3ZxUerRIQ&list=PLwJp7ihggtk5cjvrM2heCg4_BRSK_WL_e&index=2

Jason Dolan

I for one think that "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is a great Fincher film. I watched the swedish trilogy - which was fine (liked the first one, part 2 and three were kinda 'meh' just like the novels). However I think Finchers perfectionism and style really fit the remake - aaaand I don't think there are any reactions of it out there...? So that would be my Fincher recommendation. Although "Zodiac" and "Gone Girl" are great too. I'm not very fond of Benjamin Button tough...

olly.enn

I really like Meet Joe Black.

Armchair Rizzard

I got a fairly severe case after recovering from my otherwise rather mild symptom case of covid in March 2020, but I can deal with it as it doesn't really affect my hearing much, but if it's quiet, it's definitely very noticeable

Sarah

Awesome. Hope Sam does the intro more. Daniel enjoy lots of ice cream. This started the trend of villains letting themselves be caught on purpose. The Joker, Bane, Raoul Silva, Loki. Hope you check out Panic Room (2002) with Jodie Foster. It's Fincher's Hitchcock movie. Sam, even if you don't react to it, I think you'll enjoy Season 1 of Mindhunter on Netflix about the birth of FBI profiling of serial killers. Created by Fincher.

Ellie Miller

Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins both star in LEGENDS OF THE FALL, and MEET JOE BLACK. Two different movies , both GREAT films. Their chemistry is ❤. (And some other great Brad films, A River Runs Through It, Interview with A Vampire, 7 Years in Tibet, Moneyball, and SLEEPERS. SLEEPERS has an amazing cast of Brad Pitt, Robert DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Bacon, Minnie Driver, Brad Renfro, Billy Crudup, Jason Patric, etc based on a True story)

Jonathan Patrick

The Metronome Older people generally develop some form of tinnitus, whether it be mild or severe and falling asleep to a Metronome or a TV, or a Fan, or some sort of ambient noise helps alleviate the tinnitus. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

Jason Dolan

Haha, that just happened to me, too! Though I appreciate Dan and Sam having it up so as soon as it is finished processing, it is ready for us!

Jason Dolan

Since you have already seen THE BATMAN, it will be fun for you to pick out the influences from SEVEN, FIGHT CLUB and ZODIAC when you finally watch them all, but let's get started with this, the main course, and inspiration for Matt Reeves' instant classic!

Jason Dolan

Hmm, got here too quick. The video is still processing, lol.

PapaXan

Love this very dark and disturbing film. This one by took me a while to process after I saw it in the theaters. Great film, can't wait to watch your reaction!

Steven Montano

Yes !! Love this Movie !! For Me one of the Best Thriller's Ever ... If you like this you have to watch Another Morgan Freeman Thriller "Kiss The Girls" from 1997 ... Another Great Morgan Freeman Movies are "Hard Rain" from 1998 with Christian Slater, "Robin Hood" from 1991 with Kevin Costner and "Lucky Number Slevin" from 2006 with Bruce Willis

Florian Meier

Yes! I know the first thing I'm doing when I get home from work this afternoon. 😁
