Collateral (2004) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Collateral (2004) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

When you saw partner Ray's apartment/view and said "that's a nice view"; after 10 viewings I just now realized Ray the partner, is on the take!! At current LA prices that view costs about $3,900 bucks a month. Plus utilities and service fees like parking 600! You can't afford that on a cop salary..

Al Karnov

I love how the Paramount and Dreamworks logos are swapped on Amazon. Same logos, just different order to make syning movies that much harder!

Reed James

One of my favorite Tom Cruise movies is Interview with a Vampire.

David Eldridge

You should be able to look past that when evaluating an artist. Eyes Wide Shut is another one. The Last Samurai as well. Even The Color of Money he plays someone who’s not exactly cool and also a little bit cringe. But yeah, it’s clear that for the last 25 years he made a choice to become an action star more than anything which is a shame because he can be an incredible actor when he wants to.

Shehab Dawoud

Never thought I'd see Jamie Foxx threaten Anton Chigurh (Felix) and live.

Jah (jakwiq) (Jah Quick)

While I like a lot of films that have Tom Cruise, I do not like the man himself. I've heard too much stuff about what he's been party to as a Scientologist and it's just ugh. there are a couple movies where he's truly felt like a character and not TC. (This is all my opinion, by the way.). This is one of them. Magnolia is another. Born on the Fourth of July.

Donna Castellano

@Jason With “Silence of the Lambs” there was a loophole. Being the lead actor was female; Jody Foster was in a separate category and won the Oscar for Best Actress. That left Hopkins open for a Best Actor Oscar. He got upgraded since the spot was open. Haha I know the award rules are... sketchy. I didn’t see "Thelma and Louise". I can’t comment on that one.

Mr. Writhms

That's exactly how I feel, Murray

Jason Dolan

Supporting vs. Lead is often a construct from the studio related to their chances at earning a nod. Sometimes it's driven by the performer. Foxx wouldn't want to compete against his clear lead performance in Ray. Why hurt his chances of getting any nomination at all by splitting the vote? DiCaprio famously didn't want a nomination for his villainous role in Django Unchained, he asked for the studio to not campaign for it. Now, in that case, Waltz was likely to win anyway, but from the studio's perspective Leo not getting into the mix helped Waltz's chances. Point being, it's frequently a contrived set of circumstances unrelated to the film itself.

Allen S.

Using that argument Anthony Hopkins should definitely have been supporting in The Silence of the Lambs, no? Also that would have made Sarandon the lead of Thelma & Louise and Geena Davis the supporting role, no?

Jason Dolan

The main or supporting characters are not determined by screen time. The main character is the one driving the plot. The supporting characters are not the main focus but are important to further the plot. Foxx actually had more screen time than Cruise but he was not driving the plot. Foxx, Ruffalo and Pinkett-Smith were all supporting characters. The Oscar nomination was given to Foxx because they determined he gave the most dramatic performance. Of course anyone is allowed to disagree with the award decisions.

Mr. Writhms

Lastly, a good Michael Mann film to watch would be ALI with Will Smith (who is about to win the Oscar for Best Actor and would have won that year if not for Denzel Washington's performance in the aforementioned Training Day) but it is also a BOXING movie which would serve as a nice palate cleanser when you finish the Rocky series. 😁

Jason Dolan

Regarding the SUBWAY, what happened was Jaime Foxx and Jada Pinkett Smith went to the side where the train was and Tom Cruise went to the side of the train where the train wasn't which is why he had to jump over the tracks and catch the train.

Jason Dolan

I'll never understand how Jaime Foxx was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in this movie. If he was a supporting character, was Mark Ruffalo an extra? Same thing happened with Ethan Hawke being nominated for Supporting Actor in Training Day when he is actually in MORE of the movie than Denzel Washington. Ironically, Jaime Foxx was also nominated for lead performance that year as well, and actually won for RAY.

Jason Dolan

Impossible to watch a Jamie Foxx movie without recommending "Law Abiding Citizen (2009)" staring him and Gerard Butler also, the movie is absolute 🔥

Andrew

Who doesn't like a good buddy movie?

softshoes

It is also interesting to note that the majority of this film was shot on one of the earliest digital cameras.. Today every consumer grade DSLM is basically better than what Mann had then.. So amateur movie makers who think they need the newest shit should take a look at this.. Mann could shoot 24fps Full HD on less than 9 Megapixels.. no 4K no nothing..

Oh, I misunderstood your post. I thought you were saying Tom was in Django, I was about to revoke your movie license card XD. All good.

Shehab Dawoud

Yeah it's one of Jamie Foxxs bigger hits and a Quentin Tarantino film

Samuel Bruce

Django Unchained??

Shehab Dawoud

I watched this movie when I was in grade 8 in my country in Burma. I went to get bootleg dvds of "latest released" movies and not knowing anything about it, just bought it cos I liked Tom Cruise. And the movie blew me away. Because of this movie I wanted to move to LA and 3 years later...I did! It's always been near and dear to my heart.

Andy Eggroll

In an art imitates life sense, it's ironic, that Max's "business" idea morphed 5 years later into a real company - Uber Originally, the application only allowed users to hail a black luxury car and the price was 1.5 times that of a taxi. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uber

Alec S

I love The Firm! It's probably my favourite cast from any film. I wish it got more attention. A quick search on YouTube suggests there's not a single reaction to it. Crazy!

Future Boy

This movie gets better every time you watch it. Of course, there's the slow build in intensity as the movie goes along, but I also absolutely love the philosophical debate constantly building along with it between the two central characters. Foxx was nominated for this movie, and he won for Ray in the same year. In my opinion, I think this is the better of the two performances. While his impression of Ray Charles is incredibly impressive, I do think this was a more three-dimensional performance built from the ground up. I remember when this movie first came out, it was a really impressive showdown of talent between the veteran movie star oozing with charisma in Cruise going head to head against this up-and-coming character actor in Foxx. Absolutely perfect crime thriller, to me, and as always, absolutely loved your reaction to it. You guys are on quite a hot streak with the selected movies, and I always enjoy the choices made and the reactions delivered. Keep up the great work!

Gary Giaimo

This was a Amazing week !! Love your Unforgiven Reaction!! Collateral is for me one of Tom Cruise best works!! My Favorite Cruise Movie is "The Firm" from 1993 which is already in your watchlist !!! Another Great Cruise movie is "Cocktail" from 1988 with Elisabeth Shue

Florian Meier

All the other BS about him aside, Tom Cruise is rightfully a movie star, I haven't seen him in anything that he didn't kill (not literally like in this, but damn wasn't he a believable hitman?), gotta give him respect for being really really good at his job. Oh yeah, if you haven't, you need to check out Last of the Mohicans, for at least two reasons: Michael Mann, Daniel Day Lewis 👍👍

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Michael Mann is simply amazing. Check out the Miami Vice tv series from the 80s. And the movie too, but his directing of the tv show was just beautiful

TGrimace

You gotta watch The Insider! Best Mann movie after Heat imo

f hf

The craziest part of this movie is that gas is $1.83 in Los Angeles in 2004

Jason Dolan

There's actually a Limited Series on Showtime right now about the creation of Uber starring Joseph Gordon Levitt

Jason Dolan

As always, great reaction. If you're looking for more good Michael Mann films, check out Last of the Mohicans and The Insider.

Joel P

One of the great hidden gem movies of Tom Cruise that gets hidden by their bigger movies(Mission Impossible, Edge of Tomorrow, Django Unchained). Born on the 4th of July is a great movie of Cruises along with Interview with a Vampire, but they are a little slower when you compare them to Collateral. Thank you for the great reaction!

Samuel Bruce

Hes a great actor, I love all his stuff, I like to recommend movies that are near and dear to my heart. I grew up with those and I feel don't get enough attention or that go mostly ignored in the polls. I do notice a lot of the times it's newer movies that get voted or the cooler movie. I just try to fill the gaps lol I also lean toward more of the drama, romantic or emotional or inpiring films than the straight up action ones. I already know the action ones are already recommended by others most of the time. All the new MI's are amazing. And I actually meant to put Born on the 4th of July, one of his best.

Jonathan Patrick

There are so many other great Tom Cruise films, some of the ones you mentioned are some of his weaker ones imo. Risky Business, The Color of Money, Rain Man, Born on The 4th, the MI series, Eyes Wide Shut and Minority Report which luckily is winning a current poll. The guy's just had an unbelievable career with 3 prime periods.

Shehab Dawoud

Sam was sad about Vincent's death, she a real one XD. I believe it's supposed to leave you somewhat conflicted. I haven't seen anyone be straight up happy when Vincent dies. The relationship between Max and Vincent isn't all that different from the relationship between De Niro and Pacino in Heat. You felt that in different circumstances, they might've been friends. The scene in the cab before the crash is my favorite with both of them hearing the harsh truth for the first time in their life. Max calling out Vincent for his nihilism, psychopathic behavior and way of life, while Vincent forced Max to wake up and realize that he's been wasting his life by being all talk and no action. An origin story about Vincent would've been fascinating and worth a movie on its own No one does LA or crime thrillers like Michael Mann. If you love his cinematography, you should definitely check out Miami Vice with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell, The visuals are off the charts and it's quite an underrated movie too. It got negative reviews at first because the 80s show Miami Vice (Highly recommend it as well) was still relatively fresh in people's memories and the movie was very different. Later on, it's gone on to become a cult classic. But most of Mann's stuff is great. The Insider is his other great masterpiece, although it's very different from most of his work. Looking forward to more. Good job!

Shehab Dawoud

Awesome! Among the best LA movies, this and Heat are always in the debate. Ironically you guys are on a Los Angeles. L.A. Confidential, Reservoir Dogs, Cobra Kai, and even Rocky III is set in LA. Hope your next Michael Mann movie is Public Enemies (2009) with Christian Bale and Johnny Depp. Or maybe The Last of the Mohicans with Daniel Dae Lewis. Love you guys!

Ellie Miller

Another great Michael Mann film is The Insider with Al Pacino and Russell Crowe. Based on a True story. My fave Mann film other than Heat. As far as Tom Cruise, other great films, Jerry Maguire, Vanilla Sky, Magnolia, Cocktail (with Elisabeth Shue), Far and Away, Born on the 4th of July, Interview with A Vampire, and his best The Last Samurai.

Jonathan Patrick

Yeah need to get some more Tom Cruise flicks on here. He's kind of a bad ass! Mr Pink from Reservoir Dogs might say, "He went nuts, but he seems okay now"

Byron Easley

Yo Homie! Is that my reaction ?
