Reacher Season 1 Episode 1 'Welcome to Margrave' Full TV Reaction!!

Comments

Just watched the show, now watching it again with you guys. Based on the fact they're in Okinawa and the dad's in the Marines, that must be Naha Naval Station were I was born. My dad was air force and stationed there. Navy had the only good military hospital around. Navy always has the best military hospitals.

Reed James

Followed the book very well. The actor was how I pictured him as Reacher.

Been resisting binge watching this show so I can watch along with you guys and I'm glad I did your reaction was really great and I enjoyed the episode very much 👌 cheers guys as always for the fun

Ian

Overall I enjoyed this series, but I had a problem with a couple points where Reacher did not feel like the character imo. However, the actor they got to play Reacher did an excellent job.

I haven't read the books but my dad has read them all several times through and he thought the series was very faithful to the first book. They updated a few things to bring the time period to now, and they incorporated some backstory provided in other Reacher novels & short stories to make is more accessible for viewers who haven't read the books. It's a great series, you'll love it.

Agreed.

It’s not all his fault. In addition to Cruise not matching the intimidating build of Jack Reacher and his “thousand mile stare” that repels people, the movie scripts have Reacher getting beat up waaaay too much. The books describe his hand-to-hand combat skills as being akin to “throwing a running chainsaw” at someone. He absolutely decimates his opponents with overwhelming force. Both movies have more evenly balanced fights, to maintain the drama. I can suspend disbelief of the appearance of Tom Cruise as Reacher to try and enjoy it as a movie, but as soon as a mid-level henchman starts slapping him around, I’m done. That’s not Reacher.

Without going into spoiler territory, it's for the best you don't remember the Cruise movie(s) all that well. They were fine, but not Reacher. Cruise is fun, I'm a fan, but he's just not Reacher. Can't be when you're a foot shorter and 100 pounds lighter. Ritchson kills it in this series. Though, it is amusing to picture Cruise first reading the books, seeing the descriptions of Reacher's sheer size (it becomes a running joke/trope in the books to describe his bulk - once he's described as a condom stuffed with walnuts, his hands the size of shovels) and thinking, "you know what, I can play that role!" Ah, the egos of Hollywood :) I saw the movie before reading the books - then proceeded to read all 26 over the pandemic. The books are really fun, and were really built for a 10-12 episode series over a 2 hour movie. Glad they're getting a season 2. The books get better as they go, so I'd expect the series too as well.

Greg

Having read the book, I was intrigued how they would handle certain aspects. They did not disappoint. There are some changes, but overall it's a lot closer to the book than most.

Alan Ritchson is a cool actor! I've known him for a good number of years. Began watching him as Aquaman from Smallville and more recently as Hawk in DC Titans.

Logan Kerlee

Really enjoying this show! I'm going to go ahead and watch more of the show. lol, I'm invested!

Logan Kerlee

Apparently, Jack Reacher isn't very good at math. "I'll give until the count of three. One..." *THWACKKK* Great series!

Mr. Writhms

Stoked that you guys are watching this now. It's a great series. I will always know Alan Ritchison as Aquaman from Smallville.

Aaron Barlow

I might be the only one, but I only remember this guy as Raphael in the last two Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, with Megan Fox.or the stuttering handsome idiot in The Wedding Ringer. but this role was MADE for him. Sorry Tom Cruise, I DID enjoy the two movies you put in to this character, but Alan Richson just does it better!

Mister Lou

Man I was impressed with this. I didn't think it was gonna be as good as it was, and right from the get. Usually with new shows things take like 2-4 episodes to really get going but this was bad ass straight from the start.
