Rocky II (1979) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Yep. He also played the police chief in Nighthawks with Stallone, Billy Dee Williams, Rutger Hauer and Lindsay Wagner (the bionic woman).

Jah (jakwiq) (Jah Quick)

My favorite to.....Can't wait either🤗

Interplanetary species

I can't count the times though that you say stuff while watching something and I'm like "Dude. they're like psychic!" sometimes it's not exact like there's be like one more guy than what you said or one less guy or something whatever it is but the general idea is usually spot on.

Alex

Aaron: Yeah I feel a lot of people jump on trending bandwagons to hate something or not like it.. I've fallen victim to that too, but then I watch it and I love it. or I watch it and it's kinda like I don't like it but it's because I have been already kind of poisoned against it in a way, but then later on I watch it with an empty cup and then I actually enjoy it.

Alex

lol yeah. And it's the first thing people say when you're fighting, is keep your hands up. And it's funny I never really said anything about it but I just thought it, and in my entire life, no one else has mentioned that about Rocky that drove me crazy all the time.

Alex

Ooh that could be fun! Hahaha when we're wrong, we're VERY wrong! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I love Rocky V.

Jonathan Patrick

Ahh. probably what happened with me is I didn't notice because I paused to go to the bathroom or get water and then resynced it when I unpaused both videos.

Alex

Yeah, if you’ve gotten used to watching the director’s cut of Donnie darko and go back and watch the original, you might get sorta irritated or you might not. Different songs and a couple alternate scenes ruin it for me. But if you do an original version watch along with someone (not sitting next to you) and they don’t understand certain things that you know 1000% because of the directors cut you’ll want to rip your hair out.

Nick of Time

I’ll admit I only saw Rocky V once and I was fairly young then. It wouldn’t be the first time my opinion of a film changed after I got older. I’ll have to give it another chance. And I have not yet seen the Creed films.

Nick of Time

Hey TBR-- You guys should really make some prediction videos for future seasons of stuff or maybe movie sequels or I dunno.. You guys are just SOOO good at predicting how things will go. I mean, sometimes you're wrong but you get it right more often than not. I think you get it wrong when I think like bias or preconceived notion are involved.. like for instance in Rocky the mafia guy. You guys were just like predicting some Scarface level stuff. Nah I kid but you guys were pretty much predicting negative stuff :)

Alex

I can probably tell you why I think it is but I don't want to give any info to TBR/Sam who are already like super psychics when it comes to predicting entire storylines.

Alex

Rocky V was good, stop jumping on trendy bandwagons.

Aaron Barlow

Rocky V is underrated IMO. It was a good film, I'm not sure why all the hate.

Aaron Barlow

I have to rewatch them.. It could actually be my take as well. I do own the director's cut of Donnie Darko.. and yes, I have watched Donnie Darko over 100 times. It would be super interesting if they did a reaction like if they watched it 5 times.. (just record the first time reaction) .. but then like they can tack on commentary at the end about the stuff they noticed in subsequent watchings :)

Alex

I like Rocky 5.. I can't really say why without giving TBR/Sam an idea about what it's like .. and they already are pretty damn psychic as it is. My take: Rocky = Pretty Good Rocky 2 = Okay. Great ending. Rocky 3 = TBH Need to watch it again I can't remember Rocky 4 = Perfection Rocky 5 = Pretty Good (really need to watch it again) Rocky Balboa = Excellent Creed = Great Creed 2 = Great

Alex

I agree that A Good Day To Die Hard is a waste of time. It is aptly named, but other people may like the film. What's interesting it seems some folks don't see Rocky 5 or beyond as being relevant.. but whatever you think of the movies, they have important things in the Rocky-verse. But A Good Day to Die Hard literally adds nothing to its franchise. It's just a really not good IMO and adds nothing.

Alex

I feel comfortable putting Creed in the "Series" talk in which case Creed is fantastic and Creed 2 is pretty good.

Erich Bomke

Simplest and most universally accepted critique of the Rocky series: Rocky = Perfection Rocky 2-4 = Pretty good Rocky 5 = Dogshit Rocky Balboa = Excellent

Nick of Time

I have to strongly but respectfully disagree with you on Donnie Darko. I can’t stand watching the theatrical cut of it now and I absolutely love that movie. The directors cut is only version to watch, and it should be watched many times. 😂

Nick of Time

Die Hard With A Vengeance is arguably the best in the series. Live Free Or Die Hard is alright, if you watch the unrated version. A Good Day To Die Hard is a waste of time.

Nick of Time

Btw, guys FYI the other Die Hards aren't Christmas movies, so you don't have to wait until Christmas to watch them. :) Die Hard with a Vengeance, Live Free or Die Hard and maybe Die Hard 5... Yeah why not. It's not my favorite but just my opinion others may differ. But they're really great movies.

Alex

Yeah it's funny I can't believe how boring (the hour and a half that TBR/Sam called sad) I found most of Rocky II to be, but you gotta watch it coz it's part of the overarching story of their lives and legacy. And I definitely hope they watch the original 4. There's certain aspects of it that are like trademark 80s that were completely removed from the director's cut which is very nostalgic for 80s when certain stuff was coming out in the toys and Sharper Image type stuff if you know what I mean. They can always come back to the director's cut and then compare and contrast. I think that will be cool. But I decided a while back I don't like unrated or director's cuts as a rule.. Like some are cool.. but I noticed the unrated version of Live Free or Die Hard takes out some really good lines, and the Director's Cut of Donnie Darko is not as good as the theatrical version IMO.

Alex

I think if you go to 4 you have to go all the way. Every film contains something important to the story as a whole.

Future Boy

I had the same issue last night watching Chernobyl episode 1 with them. I can’t count on my HBOmax to not buffer in the middle of an episode/film, so I bought the digital on Amazon for like 14 bucks. It took a few minutes but I finally got synced up. It was weird tho.

Donna Castellano

I've seen you guys talk about doing 1-4. Definitely need to do 5, Rocky Balboa and the rest of the movies. Especially now you know you got Rocky Jr and stuff. Please don't stop at 4.

Alex

Yeah, it's just basically a worried wife. And doctors are always going to go overboard with stuff like that. It's kind of like dentists getting upset with you if you use your teeth to open wrappers or anything other than just chewing food.

Alex

Yeah that is one of the staples about Rocky is he always lets himself get punched in the face repeatedly.

Alex

True story: MMA-fighter, Michael Bisping had his eye permanently blinded by a roided-up Vitor Belfort. Bisping kept fighting and eventually went on to win the MW UFC title beating Luke Rockhold with Bisping being an underdog and taking the fight on short notice. Long story short... I get the seriousness of the situation, but a fighter with a bad eye winning a fight is not necessarily the dire situation it was meant out to be in this film and, IMO, I don't think it was crazy for Rocky and Mickey to go for the fight. Bisping was considered a journey man (i.e., an older fighter who makes a career of fighting, but never makes it to the top), and when he beat Rockhold it was one of the most magical moments I've ever seen (he was a -600 unfavorite). If you can, watch the Bisping vs Rockhold fight and you'll catch a real-life glimpse of this sorta thing. And yes, he celebrates with his family in the ring. Please watch. As of now, the fight is still available here in this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szGZurhNMOE

Jimmie V

As someone who's had boxing training and a big boxing fan it's painful to see Rocky never put his hands up or have any head movement to slip punches. Most boxers lead with their jab, Rocky leads with his chin. Now you have to watch Rocky 3!!

Aaron Barlow

I was starting to tear up in the 5 minute Rocky recap at the start, the music and the drama...all the feels.

Aaron Barlow

I know you guys were sad about this one BUT..... I think you will be pleasantly surprised by Rocky III.

Scott Kerr

Spinell was an unsung but great actor. His roles in horror movies like Maniac were really something else. He was apparently a hell of character too. The stories I've heard are really interesting.

Mike Tocci

I watched it synced to my personal copy and doubled up with a second reactor and it stayed synced for me

Jason Dolan

3 is probably my fave in the series. Can't wait for that one

Mike Adams

I grew up with these movies, and I'm really enjoying watching you two go through this series. I really hope you carry it through all the way to Creed II. I do think the first two are the best, but the entire series is such a joy, and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I have. Thanks for the post and allowing me to watch these movies for the first time again through your eyes. What a gift!

Gary Giaimo

The actor that played the loan shark - Joe Spinell - was in Godfather 1/2 and Taxi Driver

Birdie Num Num

This was a great reaction. Can't wait for you to continue the series.

Joseph Tamburo

Another great reaction! This is probably my favorite Rocky film, and I enjoy all in the film series. Going forward, you'll hear people say "skip this movie, it's no good". First off, that's purely subjective, and you guys can decide for yourself On if a movie is good to you. But each Rocky movie's story builds on the previous film so it's important to watch them all in order.

David Crabtree

I watched it on HBO Max and it synced up perfectly.

David Crabtree

@Alexander Yeah I sync the cuts perfectly at the beginning but it gradually gets out of sync

Yann Laliberté

Sam is incredibly expressive.

Alex

I didn't notice any issue but I watched it on Amazon. I just waited until the HBO intro thing was over.. TBR's count in is always like the 1, 2, 3! from Lethal Weapon like I used to hit play when I heard 1 and it would in perfect sync.. What I do now is I just will just pause and unpause whichever one is ahead and watch scene changes that you can notice even though it's blurred on their video. Never had a problem with it being out of sync? Maybe I just didn't notice. I did notice one time here Sam's reaction to something was a couple seconds off but when I looked it looked like it was in sync.. Maybe it was just their mic audio that was off.

Alex

So awesome. CANNOT WAIT for Rocky III. Btw I have no idea how Stallone wrote, directed and starred Rocky II-IV. I mean he's doing these boxing scenes, acting, and directing? Christopher Nolan never had to say action and fight Carl Weathers.

Ellie Miller

I can see the stress on Sam's face when they both went down in the final round. That scene still gives me chills to this day. When I got the notification about this movie, I was WAITING for that scene. Haha. This movie is a classic. "Rocky, get up!"

EdmanXERO

Idk why but I was honored to see my name at the end lol Loved the reaction guys as the Rocky films are a huge part of my family's lives. Rockys commitment to keep getting up is a metaphor for life, which is why that Gonna Fly Now song lyrics is so touching. It's not about boxing. It's about what we are willing to do in life no matter the struggle or obstacle. The entire series has brought so much inspiration in my life. Creed may have fought better, but Rocky wins bc he didnt give up. A lesson for life. As far as how sad part 2 is, I agree many sad moments but I actually love this film bc I think it has a lot of beautiful romantic moments between Rocky and Adrian. The proposal in the snow with the tiger in the background, so memorable and beautiful with the music. When Rocky finds out Adrian is pregnant, watch that scene again...Rocky is so happy and proud of Adrian he sounds like a kid, the innocence in his character makes me tear up. The ending, watch that again, when he yells crying out, Yo Adrian I did it!", that was Oscar worthy, you felt the history of his pain, Blood sweat and tears in that statement that finally achieved victory. I can never get through that ending scene without tearing up. It's about life. Rocky the idea is so beautiful. And Stallone always said Rocky is really an Adrian story. What a genius and underrated writer and director Sly is. Also, some other good Stallone movies are Lock Up, and Over the Top. And definitely Copland. Copland he shoulda won an Oscar in my opinion.

Jonathan Patrick

Yes that's right, Stallone directed the second one, but I always felt Avildson saw what Stallone did with Rocky II and thought that was a good idea. But yes, Stallone is the man behind the decision to open with a recap that Avildson emulated for Karate Kid Part II.

Jason Dolan

Seems it kept its sync after the hospital "Win" part

Yann Laliberté

Thanks for the heads up! Recorded on HBO Max but I’ll have to look into any issue today when I get home from work! Sorry for the inconvenience!

TBR Schmitt

The first one is, this one is not

Yann Laliberté

Hey guys, it's a weird copy you got there. Probably a framerate issue but it's the first time I cannot sync with your video

Yann Laliberté

It's funny how you're like, this reminds me so much of the Karate Kid with the recap... and it is the SAME director, haha

Jason Dolan

"Getting strong now, won't be long now, gonna fly now, Fly, fly flyyyy!" ❤🥲🎵 🥊🏃‍♂️. Makes me tear up everytime
