If I were a movie studio, and I had a good movie on my hands, I would invite reactors like you, Brandon Likes Movies, Natalie Gold and Cassie Popcorn to REACT to my movie, and your reactions would be my trailer.

Rocky V isn't bad. The problem with a 'consensus' is that people want to fit in with it and jump on the bandwagon to appear cool.
I remember when going against the consensus was cool.

Since you're new to the Rocky series, I would recommend watching all of them through.

Yeah, Rocky V isn't a bad movie. It's a necessary part of the whole to understand the entire story. Plus it was directed by John Avildsen, who directed the original Rocky.

Same, I didn't even know about the director's cut. My parents had IV recorded off of HBO and I must have watched it a dozen times.

After the second film, the series becomes increasingly ridiculous until Rocky Balboa (sixth film) where it gets a lot closer to where it started tone wise. That's not to say III and IV are bad, they're just kinda silly. Rocky IV does have the best montages though. I'm with the general consensus that says V is pretty bad though.

Rocky 5 is most definitely a must watch, especially if you're a Rocky fan and heavily invested in the characters. The same goes with Rocky 6 titled "Rocky Balboa".

I love The Paper! I watch it at least once every couple of years. It's probably my favourite Michael Keaton film. And like you said, what a cast!

I’m so excited you all are watching this series! I can never decide which is my favorite, this one or the second movie. Being a shy kid and adult myself, I always connected to Adrian. Another boxing movie you might like is Cinderella Man with Russell Crowe. Lot of heart like Rocky but also very emotional and uplifting. While I’m suggesting that movie I also would like to suggest another Ron Howard directed movie that I think you guys would really enjoy: The Paper. It has Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Robert Duvall, and an entire ensemble of names. Nothing to do with boxing, but it’s such a good movie! No one has ever reacted to it, so you all would be the first. Just thought I’d put that out there :)

Adrian was played by Talia Shire who was Michael's sister Connie in The Godfather films.
Joe Spinnell played Mr. Gazzo, the loan shark that Rocky worked for. He appeared in tons of movies and you guys recently saw him as the guy who hired Travis Bickle at the taxicab company in the opening of Taxi Driver. Spinnell was also in The Godfather II as Willie Cicci, right hand of Frank Pentangeli who testified in front of the Senate.
The director of Rocky, John G. Avildsen, also directed The Karate Kid. Bill Conti, who did the music, also worked with Avildsen on The Karate Kid.

Rocky V is good. Tommy Morrison was a legit top pro heavyweight IRL and he did a good job acting.

A 'Cut man' is a guy that takes care of cuts and swelling on a fighter's face from hits. If a cut is bleeding, blood can get in the eyes and the fight can be stopped if the cut is torn open too much and the fighter is losing too much blood, the cut man can apply ointment that reduces bleeding. If eye swelling is obscuring the fighter's vision they can cut open the swollen area to bleed it out and reduce the swelling.

I could be wrong but the relationships between characters s in films seems to usually be your guys' favourite element of so with that in mind I highly recommend the Before Trilogy. Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight.

Rocky is a love story with a little boxing in it. You should watch the entire series. #5 is the weakest link but #6 is great. And the Creed movies are fantastic.

Fantastic reaction! If you're going to go on this Rocky journey, you need to watch all of them! They all tell a continuing story. Movies are subjective, make up your own minds on those later Rocky films. Rocky Balboa (aka Rocky 6) is fantastic by the way, but that's just my opinion.

I just did a double reaction with you guys and Popcorn in Bed and it's hilarious how much you guys all synced up - you could have been in the room together!
I'm excited to go on this Rocky journey again with you - I've only really seen 1-4 multiple times, but everything after that only once and not in a LOOOOONG time.

Yet another great reaction to a true classic. It really is the closest thing to watching them again for the first time.
I love how people who go in blind to Rocky (and First Blood) have no idea what kind of film they're about to see. I cannot wait to go through the rest of the Rocky films with you!

I've seen every Rocky more times than I can count, but I've only seen part 5 maybe two or three times, and not for about 15 years. I've forgotten why it's bad, but I'm kinda looking forward to seeing it again to see what I think.

Yea Rocky 5 is kinda blegh. Rocky Balboa (aka Rocky 6) is actually quite enjoyable in my opinion.

I love the original Rocky 4. I watched it endlessly as a kid. But the new director's cut is clearly objectively better (a quick rotten tomatoes check shows the original at 38% and the new one at 80%). It's weird to have 2 versions of the same film that are so different.
It must be hard for reactors to know which version to watch...But I think the best experience for someone watching the whole series for the first time is to just watch the superior version.

When Mike Tyson had that fight a couple years back there were a lot of similar comments. I think people just thought it's done / he's too old / etc but I mean it doesn't have to be over and can still be good. and the Mike Tyson fight was great. Tyson is a huge inspiration.

Opinions on it are mixed from what I've seen. To me, it's a better overall movie than Rocky 4 and not far from 3

What criticisms are being levels against Balboa? I thought it's just overlooked but praised, not that it's underrated? I know that before it was released people laughed it and Stallone off because he was getting "too old" (which, funnily enough, was the premise of the movie itself! :) I love the little ironies of life...)

People don't recommend watching "Rocky VI" (which would be "Rocky Balboa") ?? That's crazy! For me it's the third or even second-best out of all of them! "Rocky V" however certainly is the weakest one. And I don't enjoy the cheesyness of "Rocky IV" but I understand its appeal... I'd be curious to watch the recently finished Director's Cut of it though ...
edit: "Rocky Balboa" is pretty self-conained by the way. I know people who only watched "Rocky I+II" and then went straight to "Balboa". And they were fine! :)

You gotta watch all the Rocky's.. Rocky V and Rocky Balboa are both great films. You're just missing out on huge parts of the saga's storyline if you don't watch them.

Rocky 5 is definitely not good, but it's part of the journey, so you can't really get around it. Rocky Balboa (6) is very good, though, very underrated. Never understood what people have against it, I think you'd love it.
