Midnight Mass Episode 4 'Book IV: Lamentations' Full TV Reaction!!

Love watching you guys react. Watching Bev ramp up through the episodes, I'm thinking she a full blown narcissist. Watching her take on the "situation" in the rectory with Father Pruit, and her ability to go back and move the situation in the church forward and have a plan so rapidly to deal with the "rectory situation", she has to be a psychopath. The two fit together. She has to be in control. And that is her chosen end for every choice she makes: To her, it all revolves around her. Just like the oil payoff money and building the rec center. It is all about her.

I was trying so hard to save these until you were finished with the series, but it's just been a rough week - didnโ€™t want to wait! Looking forward to it!

I like this call out Thomas. Pruitt is the villain just because but he is so damn likeable that it's hard to hate him, especially with the Angel and Bev around. You almost get the sense in this episode, he doesn't quite realize the gravity of everything awful going on. I mean, I think he knows something isn't entirely right, but all that praying and him screaming out in abandonment was ambiguous at first, like is he talking to god or the angel? I almost feel like he was talking to both at once. And it's funny to see him talk about faith and belief with a skeptic like Riley when he seems to be operating with this complete blind faith himself. If only Riley's mom could have given Pruitt that speech... you don't have to believe, just look.

The first episode kind of sets everything up and then with each episode my mind gets blown. And I think, well they blew my mind with the last episode and I wait for things to settle and then they blow it again. Masterful work by Flanagan and this cast. It's clever and genius and despite the presence of an "angel", it almost feels like some elements of this could happen in real life.

Tremendous episode and a very fun reaction. So much to unpack from just one hour of TV. Obviously the Erin/Riley scene is outstanding and then all the developments with Msgr. Pruitt officially turning. Can't wait to continue with you guys!

I missed a few episodes and decided to try again with this one. I have no idea what's going on but DAMN, you guys are INVESTED in this lol. That was intense! :) I think I'll go back to the start...

I'm pretty sure Joe's still alive, though clearly very near death when Paul's sucking on his skull. Either way, you're technically correct, but he's very much aware and accepting what's happening. Maybe not quite as bad as actively taking someones life, but not far off either. I still love his character. The actor is absolutely killing it. The writing and acting in this show always blows me away.

First time watching the full reaction as a Patron. Not dissapointed! <3

I had the same reaction to the end of this episode and the way the final 3 episodes unfold, it is absolute madness!

This series has been a genuine treat to watch and rewatch with you!

Father Paul hasn't "actively" killed anybody. He was holding Joe tightly, obviously fighting his urges, when Joe forced himself away and fell to hit his head. We didn't see it, but in my mind, Father Paul kept drinking the blood on the floor and only resorted to drinking directly from Joe after he'd passed and wasn't bleeding out anymore. And, he certainly didn't kill Riley.

I keep getting weird looks because I yell "Right!" or, more often, "Wrong!", at the screen while you are working through your theory-crafting.

This is like getting to open a Christmas present on December 23rd

It seems you guys figured out what I was waiting to say this week to avoid spoiling things for people that didn't see the episode last week. I loved the scene with Erin and Riley.. Interestingly enough the music in this scene seems to be either inspired by or the same song "Nearer My God To Thee" from Titanic that they sing in church and I believe the band also plays it as the ship is sinking. I've seen the whole series already both times I really loved playing along to it, as the first time I did so just to see whether it actually is that song or not. They overlap perfectly if it's not, but it's so soft in the background it's tough to tell. The thing about the vampire with wings.. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I think this is general vampire lore.. The vampires we know of that look like humans are actually half-human half-demon. A full blooded vampire looks like the one in this show. "The Master" from Buffy is a full blooded vampire and looks like this one. And yes, after exchanging blood with a vampire one has to die in order to become one. With Pruitt it seems he didn't die immediately, he wasn't killed immediately, and they seem to have taken the "zombie" approach where like in some zombie lore a person doesn't turn into a zombie even if infected until they die, ala The Walking Dead. *shrugs* Your guess is as good as mine as to how he died. I have no idea. If you look REAL close even though he died in a manner similar to the dog, you'll notice the color of what he spat up as he was dying had a slightly different color and consistency from what the dog spat up when it was dying from rat poison. So it's possible that perhaps one infected by the vampire will eventually die and turn into a vampire, but that it takes a long period of time. One thing to note is the vampire is not feeding off the townsfolk. The townsfolk are drinking its blood. To become a vampire it requires BOTH for the vampire to feed on them AND for them to feed off the vampire.
