Drama Movie Poll!

Help pick the Drama movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen Good Will Hunting, so this would only be Sam's first time reaction.

*We received a ton suggestions on the last polls, but we are trying to keep the poll sizes more reasonable. We have noted all suggestions for future polls!

Comments

If you want more drama, just watch anything by John Cassavetes, or the early dramas of Woody Allen. Nuri Bilge Ceylan's films also, if you're OK with subtitles.

Cavatica

Can't wait for Se7en. Great timeless thriller!

Braden Derksen

The Elephant Man is indeed a sad story but a VERY good film, 8 academy award nominations. Hope to see it kept for future polls!

nick B.

Highly recommend A Beautiful Mind (2001) if you guys haven't seen it.

Jay

I just want more Kubrick so bad :'( I look forward to your Barry Lyndon reaction, somewhere down the line. You've said it's on the list, so that's nice. I obviously voted for Eyes Wide Shut. A very mature-relationship drama. Nothing like his other movies, but still a Kubrick movie. I'm sure you'll see it eventually.

iliketostayhome

If you're recommending PornHub over Eyes Wide Shut, I can see why you'd be disappointed in the film as it won't be giving you the jolt you're looking for. It is so much more than that.

Nick of Time

Eyes Wide Shut is far from "dumb" and like most Kubrick films, misunderstood until later. Lots of undercurrents and social commentary hidden away...

ron clint

avoid EYES WIDE SHUT AND GOOD WILL HUNTING - eyes wide is dumb - just go to pornhub - and your better off watching louis ck's review of good will hunting - its far more entertaining - everything else is entertaining but these lists are sooooo pedestrian. a good drama is DELIVERANCE - THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP - DIRTY PRETTY THINGS - movies i know youve never heard of but are absolute classics and gems

dw

Seven is a great film, but Cuckoo's Nest is one of the best of all time. They showed it to us on high school and just about everybody loved it. Been one of my favorites since then. Good Will Hunting is overrated by a mile.

Mike Tocci

Eyes Wide Shut is a really interesting movie

Ken Veader

Oh yeah. Gotta see Amadeus.

Neal Romanek

If you loved Zodiac, you'll probably like Se7en. Not but my thing, but a lot of people love it.

Neal Romanek

Foreign Language category?

Neal Romanek

It's so good - with a young Anthony Hopkins being amazing. Also (secretly) produced by Mel Brooks - and featuring his wife Anne Bancroft.

Neal Romanek

Such good choices. I'm not the biggest David Fincher fan, but Se7en is good - more horror than drama. I've plopped my vote down for Cuckoo's Nest - if you could only choose one film on the list that'd be the one to see.

Neal Romanek

So many good movies on here, lookin forward to seeing them all over time. Love your post movie breakdown guys 👍

Ancestor of Freedom

I feel like part of Patreon's role is to provide a stable base of support so that reactors can afford to be a little adventurous with their picks now and then. But then, I have no problem watching reactions to older movies I've never seen---it's a great way to decide whether I want to track them down!

CluckingBell

We’re open! We want to hear what you guys want to watch 😊 Our Sports Poll, Hitchcock Poll and Special Drama Poll all came from patron requests, so we are all ears! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Voted Memento, which I hope you two get to at some point because it's great, Trainspotting would be my second vote if it were an option. I don't think many channels have reacted to either and your thoughts on films mirror mine a lot of the time so would love to see/hear your's on those at some point. **fingers crossed**

JayWantsACat

Eyes Wide Shut is very disturbing and you may have similar difficulty with posting it on YouTube as you did for Clockwork Orange, fyi.

Catherine LW

Hope you take it upon yourselves to watch Eyes Wide Shut one day because I doubt it'll ever win a poll. It is quite a graphic film, but it is so fascinating and the subject matter is so serious. And it's Kubrick. I'd also love a married couple's perspective on it. The only one who's reacted to it on YT is James vs Cinema.

Shehab Dawoud

It’s not just reactors who need to broaden their film viewing. So many people only vote for what they’ve already seen and never attempt to watch something unfamiliar. It’s really sad how they miss out on some great films just because they were made a long time ago.

Catherine LW

@PickettsChargingPort Yeah, Momento loses almost every poll it's ever on lmao. And it's such a great choice for reactors to analyze in real time!

Dan

I do think Se7en is Fincher's most overrated film. Sadly, I think we're in the minority here.

kbobravo

you film selection is like from a bad holiday inn cable channel - dive into stuff youve never seen that is pure pop culture and you didnt even know it - WATCH: DELIVERANCE - DEATH WISH - DIRTY HARRY - SCANNERS - THE DIRTY DOZEN - THE GETAWAY - BULLITT - ----ANYTHING WITH CHARLIE BRONSON, STEVE MCQUEEN AND LEE MARVIN THE OG ACTION HEROES

dw

y'all haven't seen Seven? shhhhhhhh

Shaun2342!

Logan, he didn't say anything about not being able to stomach it. He said he didn't like the characters' stupid decisions that were only made to further the plot. To each his own.

Arki Kali

😆 How do you really feel? But seriously, I don't really disagree.

Arki Kali

Any interest in “classic Hollywood” era dramas or no? I think someone remarked that they often get very low view counts so it makes sense to not include them I guess. Makes me sad though 😭

Michael Soukup

It’s a great film. One of only three films ever to win the “top 5” Oscars (Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay). And coincidentally you already watched one of the others—The Silence of the Lambs.

Michael Soukup

Richard Linklater's Before Trilogy is sensational and would make for some great reactions.

Ginge Tomassi

Saw The Elephant Man as a kid and will never watch again. Damn these movies that make me cry!

Rick Trujillo

Thank you for the recommendations!! Reservoir Dogs we tried to put on the schedule for January, but it is a Paramount Film, so once the strike on our channel expires in March, we're going to try to get it up :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Moon was a Patreon Exclusive! Since we're not doing those anymore, we may have those Full Lengths edited for YouTube :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We have seen On the Waterfront and Spotlight - both fantastic! But 12 Angry Men is on our list! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We saw the enthusiasm for LA Confidential! It's on the schedule :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I’m wondering if the same people are on all my Patreon subscriptions because the same movies are winning again and again. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Catherine LW

Good Will Hunting HAS to be watched.. but man Stand By Me? That's GOT to be THE best coming of age movie ever...EVER. Just every male I know relates to this movie...the time setting means absolutely nothing. It's a great one!

AC Malin

I've broken down my movie collection (Drama) into the following categories: Action - like "Road House" and "Unstoppable" Caper - like "National Treasure" and the various "Oceans" movies Dystopian Future - like "The Book of Eli" and " The Postman" Faith-based - like "The Robe" and "Ben-Hur" (the 1959 version) History / Period - like "Apollo 13" and "Braveheart" Human - like "Stand By Me" and "Dead Poets Society" Music / Dancing - like "Urban Cowboy" and "Dirty Dancing" Nuclear War - like "Fail-Safe" and "On The Beach" Romance - like "Ghost" and "City Of Angels" Suspense / Thriller - like Humphrey Bogart or Alfred Hitchock movies War / Military - like "The Great Escape" and "Tears Of The Sun" Westerns - like "Open Range" and "Rio Bravo"

Miles E Coburn

Guys, you can’t go through life without seeing ‘Stand By Me’. I took my 15 & 12 yr old boys to the theater last year to see it. I was their age when I first saw it. Written by Stephen King, directed by Rob Reiner, starring River Phoenix.

Rudy Hernandez

I don't hate the movie, but I do think it's a much weaker film than people make it out to be. That's the thing about subjective opinions, though. Obviously, we're in the mintority. Personally I think Momento is a stronger film by quite a bit.

PickettsChargingPort

All amazing movie choices here. That being said, I just can't wait until you guys watch Stand By Me, even if it doesn't win this poll. Been in love with that film since childhood, and as an adult, appreciate it even more as a fantastic piece of work. Great Steven King adaptation. S7ven and Trainspotting would be insanely wild to see reactions to, simply for the shock factor 😂

Lee Brennan

It's not a matter of "stomaching" the movie at all. I said the writing is terrible and the characters are so unbelievable as to be alien. No one makes human decisions in it. It's not a movie for humans. And I'm not talking about the villain (who's expected to be abnormal, hence the "crime")... I'm talking about the victims. They wouldn't be victims... if they were human. I can't explain more without going into spoiler territory, but we can go into those details after TBR Schmitt has posted their reaction. I believe that to be a "crime thriller", certain basic elements of logic have to be consistent with human activity. This movie doesn't pass that bar. I would appreciate its dark elements if it did. Dark is fine for me; the HBO animated Spawn series is still one of the favorites in my collection.

Dan

It'll never win, but one vote for "The Elephant Man." It's an incredible performance by John Hurt and a strangely beautiful film that oddly brought together Mel Brooks & David Lynch (and yet it works)

John Swon

Maybe you could do like a 'caper' movie. Inside Man would be my top choice, since you've already done Heat (and I'm so glad you did that one!)

Dan

Wow, strong reaction there! I for one do enjoy the movie for what it is, an excellent crime thriller. I won't go so far as to say that it's an amazing horror film, because it isn't.. it's just a VERY dark film centered around some very dark ideas. An entertaining ride, if you're up for that type of thing. If you aren't, that's okay!! But saying that it's a bad film simply because you can't stomach it.. that's pretty lame, bud.

Logan Kerlee

Great list. Philadelphia is one that a lot of people forget, one of Tom Hanks' best. Fargo, Three Bbs, Reservoir Dogs... yeah, this list is a banger from top to bottom. I'd love to see them react to GATTACA and Sicario.

Dan

It's terrifying.. but absolutely worth watching.. but I'd never include it in a drama poll. That plain doesn't make sense to me. 🤔

Logan Kerlee

Agreed. While I love Se7en I'm disappointed to see it on this poll. Though, getting it out of the way now, may be a good choice? We'll see!

Logan Kerlee

Jason: What's the mystery? Everyone in the story is stupid. The end. Hate this movie so much...

Dan

I'll never, for the life of me, understand why people like Se7en so much. Nothing aggravates me more than characters who are stupid for the convenience of progressing the plot, and that's literally every single person in this movie. It's like Idiocracy, but as a horror and without the comedy or self awareness. Literally every decision that everyone makes is the opposite of what anyone should do, and yet the movie is up its own ass about the grandiose statement it's trying to make about these decisions that it thinks are even remotely plausible without the contrivance of the plot itself. It's absolutely my most regrettable "well-this-has-good-ratings" purchase of my life. I stopped buying unknown movies because of this movie.

Dan

Oh man, Stand by Me is NEVER gonna win :(

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

If you ever feel like doing a "based on a true story," The Elephant Man definitely belongs on that list seeing as it likely won't win her,e but it is worth a look (one of the few films I've seen where everybody I know liked it who had seen it)..

Jimmie V

Wow that's a terrific list!

Scott Kerr

I'm senile and I can't for the life of me remember if I had already recommended these ones, so I'm adding them here and I'm making a list of what I've already recommended to you guys so I don't repeat myself forever. 😅 Reservoir Dogs (1992) Philadelphia (1993) Schindler’s List (1993) Fargo (1996) The Pianist (2002) The Road (2009) Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)

Domino

No LA Confidential? It just missed out on the last two polls I believe.

Richard Akhtar-Dobson

Oh snap! It must be a Patreon exclusive because I for sure never saw it on YouTube. Now I'm curious how many other movies from the past are only on Patreon!

Erich Bomke

Good Will Hunting all the way, easily the best movie here.

Aaron Barlow

didnt dey do dat?

Jason Dolan

Moon

Erich Bomke

Wow,, what a selection of good movies. I vote for them all.

Opie Wan

Also you're awesome Sam! Tell Daniel to put your face in the thumbnail 😀

Ellie Miller

I think Seven should win this on great reaction potential alone. But seriously, it's a great film and anyone who likes crime thrillers needs to see it.

Jeffrey Miller

It's a shame One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is being outshined by Se7en, Se7en is definitely a thriller (although some may consider that a drama). Doesn't make much of a difference though, Se7en is a guaranteed winner on just about poll you put it on.

kbobravo

It would be cool to see a real old school classic Hollywood drama in here like 12 Angry Men or On the Waterfront. A newer one I would recommend if you haven't seen it is Spotlight.

kbobravo

Just two things: I'm so impressed Trainspotting showed up on a poll, it's such an outsider, it's kind of a love it or hate it movie; and two, Se7en is a drama like Silence of the Lambs is technically a drama. That said you have to see it, the director David Fincher is one of my favorites. But I had to vote for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest because it's just a personal favorite. But then there was Stand By Me too, tough choice.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Yes !!! Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher are so good in this Movie !!! I Hope they watch it

Florian Meier

Also a brilliant Drama is "Kramer vs Kramer " with Dustin Hoffmann and Meryl Streep from 1979 ...Oscar Performance from Both ... You have also watch" Rain Man" with Dustin Hoffmann and Tom Cruise from 1988 !! Brilliant Oscar Performance from Dustin Hoffmann... Another Suggestion is "As Good As it Gets" from 1997 With Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt !!! Oscar Performance from Both !!!

Florian Meier

The Elephant Man and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest definitely. Those are dramas. I don't consider "Se7ven" a drama. You'll like "Stand By Me" too. "Memento" you'll definitely like. I detest "Eyes Wide Shut" and I've given it ten thousand chances, including twice on the day it opened, lol. Next time you're in the mood for a legendary Jack Nicholson performance - not to mention Louise Fletcher, his co-star (both Oscar winners for it) - "Cuckoo's Nest" is the one to do.

Toc

Panic Room directed by Fincher? Jodie Foster, Jared Leto, Forrest Whitaker.

Ellie Miller

Drama is a tough one! Especially since these are films we haven't seen, we're going off of only the google search of "movie title" genre to see where it goes! If you guys have suggestions for more specific movie polls, please let me know! I did see someone recommend maybe splitting out the crime films which I think is a great idea for upcoming polls -Sam

TBR Schmitt

You two are going to love it. Sometimes there are movies that don't fit nicely into a genre poll, but are absolute masterpieces.

bosho11

Yep! it's on my top 5 for sure!

bosho11

I hope we can persuade them to do the Amadeus Director's Cut because everyone here NEEDS to see that version IMO

Jason Dolan

Quite a range for drama. Stand by Me is probably the best movie there, but Se7en and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest are great, too.

Chris

Ooh yes, Amadeus is also on our list! I wish we had more time to watch more films! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I wish! Unfortunately, we've both seen it. I loved Zodiac! Absolutely my kind of film. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I enjoy all of Sam's expressions and Dan's analysis. I want to see him solving the mystery haha.

Jason Dolan

This makes me nervous! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Voted Cuckoo's Nest so I can badger you two into watching the amazing Amadeus after. Both by the same director

bosho11

Zodiac (2007). Directed by David Fincher.

Ellie Miller

Se7en is the only correct answer for Sam's reactions alone.
