Help pick the Sports movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen The Blind Side & Friday Night Lights, so this would only be Sam's first time reaction.

*We received a ton suggestions on the last polls, but we are trying to keep the poll sizes more reasonable. We have noted all suggestions for future polls!

Comments

I wish I could still vote on this one. I'd vote for Rudy , then Moneyball❤

Jonathan Patrick

Slap Shot!

Tom Servo

Cinderella man is by far the best movie on this list , a true story . Directed by Ron Howard and starring Russel Crowe .

Mike Lipke

And A League Of Their Own - also comedy baseball.

Neal Romanek

I really love Field Of Dreams. Definitely not a movie for cynics though...or is it??

Neal Romanek

Million Dollar Baby is a fine entertaining film and also addresses a very controversial social issue..10+ !

ron clint

Also check out Eight Men Out, about the Black Sox scandal, and A League Of Their Own - Tom Hanks said it was one of his favorite roles (also with Geena Davis, Rosie O'Donnell, Jon Lovitz, and even Madonna)

Neal Romanek

I thought Hilary Swank stole the movie. Morgan Freeman was very good in his supporting role.

David Martin

Field of Dreams is one of the corniest movies I've ever seen. Even as a kid, I rolled my eyes at that one. Million Dollar Baby is the best on this list, but only because of Clint Eastwood.

Mike Tocci

Field of Dreams is much more a fantasy movie.

David Martin

We need Major League on the sports poll

Ken Veader

So heartbreakingly sad though

Aaron Barlow

Awesome. There are so many great sports movies, but The Natural (1984), with Robert Redford, is THE baseball movie. Gotta see that. Also check out: Chariots Of Fire (track & field) The Hustler (pool) Ali (Will Smith as Muhammed Ali) Searching For Bobby Fischer (chess) Slap shot (hockey) - and I'm assuming you've got Rocky in the pipeline, one of the greatest sports movies of all time!

Neal Romanek

The Hustler is the only right answer.

Neal Romanek

Amazing movie.

Neal Romanek

Yes that’s the one!

Michael Soukup

Pacino's halftime speech is pretty epic. I can think of a few teams who could use it about now (cough cough Flyers cough cough)

Mike Tocci

It's crazy because I don't care much for chess but yet that movie was incredible!

Scott Kerr

Isn't that the movie about the bicycle racing?

Scott Kerr

Oh cool--thanks for letting me know. I'll have to check it out. 🙂

Arki Kali

They need to check it out simply because of Pacino's speech. The movie itself is pretty bad, but Al carries it

Shehab Dawoud

Moneyball is also based on true events, although they do omit a few details about that Oakland A's team.

Mario

Definitely Slap Shot!

Mike Tocci

you just like to complain huh

Sebastian Syrinx

all shit movies

dw

I vote Rudy. Everyone's (reactors) done Field of Dreams, and I dislike following the pack. Cinderella Man is also awesome, and both of them are based on true stories.

Arki Kali

Breaking Away

Michael Soukup

Couldn’t agree more. I watched TCM interview with Hackman and said they were all convinced that the movie was going to be terrible. I think it was the director’ first film perhaps. True story also if that’s any influence.

Michael Soukup

Yes please!

Michael Soukup

Yes yes yes!!!

Michael Soukup

Oh yes Hoosiers for sure!

Michael Soukup

Oh I was going to suggest this myself. I love this movie!! Tom Hardy and Nick Nolte are great. I have to have the tissues ready each time I watch it.

Michael Soukup

Definitely Slap Shot.

Alex Fokas

I would like to add to that list Without Limits (1998). The running movie about Steve Prefontaine. That definitely should qualify as a sports movie.

Scott Kerr

Voted for Samwise I MEAN! Rudy.

Sammy Rebbo

List fails w/o Bull Durham. Slap Shot anyone?

softshoes

Moneyball!

f hf

Field of Dreams! But man oh man...but Million Dollar Baby is a great movie.

AC Malin

‘Major League’ is fantastic. Wish it was on this list.

Rudy Hernandez

In spite of ESPN trying to convince the general public, pool, like golf, is a skill. Not a sport.

Miles E Coburn

True. Unfortunately, it (the ideas and concepts) gave rise to accountants running the game of baseball.

Miles E Coburn

Even though it's not really a "sports" movie (you'll understand once you see it), "Field of Dreams" is a terrific movie. "Bull Durham" would be a better baseball movie. "Cinderella Man" or "Miracle" would be my other choices (both based on real-life events). Other Sports-Related Movies: "Bull Durham" (1988) Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins "Major League" (1989) Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes "Remember the Titans" (2000) Denzel Washington, Wil Patton, Wood Harris "Mystery, Alaska (1999) Russell Crowe, Mary McCormick, Burt Reynolds "Chariots of Fire" (1981) Ben Cross, Ian Charleson, Ian Holm

Miles E Coburn

“Hoosiers” by far! Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper were fantastic! (And I’m not even much of a sports fan) Best sports movie (basketball and underdogs) such great character development and great pacing. Full of heart.

James Battista

I agree and that's why I'm not a fan of any of these polls. So many classics, like The Hustler, get totally ignored in favor of some tripe or another.

Mike Tocci

Gotta check out Oliver Stone's football epic Any Given Sunday (1999). It's got a tremendous kid cast with stars like Al Pacino, James Woods, Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, John C. McGinley, Jim Brown and Charlton Heston.

Mike Tocci

Warrior (2011) is an absolute must!

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Moneyball really is a special movie. If it doesn't win, hopefully it will be in a future poll. Miracle is also a special movie. Being that it's about one of the greatest sports moments in history.

Scott Kerr

Hoosiers and Glory Road are my two favorite basketball movies

Scott Kerr

I'm not sure if you've seen Rocky yet? A true classic, and the start of another great series of films you could watch. Directed by John G. Avildsen with music by Bill Conti - the same team from The Karate Kid films!

Future Boy

True. "The Color of Money" was pretty mainstream when it released though, being a Tom Cruise, Paul Newman, Martin Scorsese movie. Too bad it gets no attention these days.

Mr. Writhms

both are amazing films but sadly not very mainstream and im guessing they wouldnt get votes

benjamin freeman

Is pool considered a sport? "The Hustler" (1961) "The Color of Money" (1986)

Mr. Writhms

The statistical analysis... it's so beautiful

Erich Bomke

I have no interest in Baseball, even less in the economics of Baseball, and when I watched Moneyball for the first time I thought "Well that was way better than any film about the economics of baseball has any right to be". It's a lesson that regardless of the subject a great movie is a great movie, and Moneyball is a truly great movie.

Richard Akhtar-Dobson

100%

Jason Dolan

Field of Dreams is well into the discussion of greatest sports movie of all time. Competing with Rocky, A League of Their Own, and Raging Bull

Erich Bomke

In my opinion, only Moneyball and Million Dollar Baby are worth considering. I don't really like sports movies with a few exceptions because in my opinion a lot of them feel very samey.

Jeffrey Miller

Bull Durham (1988)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Million Dollar Man is So Good !!! Clint Eastwood is So Great in this Movie !!!

Florian Meier

Field of Dreams is great but Bull Durham should be the first Sports Movie of Kevin Costner’s that anyone watches

william

Totally, a fascinating character. This is also cool, a 60 minutes segment about Magnus Carlsen the current world champion and regarded by some as the best chess player ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qc_v9mTfhC8

Aaron Barlow

Great movie. Also great: any documentary about Bobby Fischer! lol. (not for a reaction channel, per se, but to watch!)

Toc

I strongly recommend Searching for Bobby Fischer, a great family movie. It's about a chess prodigy. I classify chess as a sport :) Like the Queen's gambit you don't have to be a chess player to appreciate the movie either.

Aaron Barlow

Warrior from 2011. A modern day version of Rocky.

David Crabtree

Hoosiers should be on any future lists.

Mitchell Smilie

Warrior (2011). My favorite. And I'm not into MMA at all. The movie that makes men cry 🤣

Ellie Miller

It's on the comedy list! I totally overlooked it when I was making this poll :( Thank you, Jeff! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Field of Dreams is too much of a classic not to vote for

bosho11

Can we add Major League to next comedy or sports poll? It is a hilarious comedy with Wesley Snipes, Renee Russo, Charlie Sheen and it is a great movie! Thanks for your continuous reactions TBR and Sam!

Jeff

Moneyball! But these are all gud.

Jason Dolan
