Watch Django Unchained

BForce7

I don't see any classic Westerns on here but then again I also don't really know of which the best classic Westerns are.. but I tell you that for anyone who is looking to watch really amazing TV shows and amazing Westerns, Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman is one of the best Western TV shows to ever air on TV. 6 seasons truly heartwarming. If you loved BTTF 3 you will love this show. They also have a couple movies.. Another one I highly recommend is The Rifleman in the Westerns category. It's really good as well.

Alex

The Wild Bunch is my favorite on the list, but I admit it could clash with your channel's brand. Depends how far you want to push the boundaries. Butch Cassidy, which came out at the same time as The Wild Bunch, I guarantee you'll love. Maybe watch The Wild Bunch afterward, because they're so similar and approach the exact same theme from different angles and with different tones.

Neal Romanek

Definitely Once Upon a Time in the West.

ron clint

people are only voting for what theyve seen in tv a thousand times - without sam peckinpah you would not have the modern action movie - THE WILD BUNCH its a CLASSIC and the best on the list !!!! the BEST western you'll ever see is ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST - sergio leone's ode to the american western

dw

Not Tombstone AGAIN...lol. Butch and Sundance is EPIC.

MizD (SueSnellLives!)

a great western that is hilarious to check out is Catballou with Lee Marvin

CoffeeloverJoel

All the movies are great! Tombstone is so good...but after u should also watch Wyatt Earp with Kevin Costner....it tells the story more accurately. I love Dances with wolves mainly because its a story of my people. I am a full blooded Sioux and my reservation is in North Dakota.

CoffeeloverJoel

Sorry but Dances with Wolves is the best movie in this poll. Tombstone would be the most fun to watch along with but as we can see by the Schmidt's reactions to movies like Shawshank, 1917, Saving Private Ryan, epics stay with you after good popcorn movies like Tombstone keeps you quoting one liners.

Dances With Wolves

Hang Em High (1968) Clint Eastwood Western At its Best !!!

Florian Meier

Great book.

Neal Romanek

The Sisters Brothers (2018)! Super underrated movie!

Domino

Scott, I love both versions. I grew up on the John Wayne original but I also thought the Coen brothers remake was well done. And Matt Damon was better than Glen Campbell as LeBoeuf.

Catherine LW

Also recommend The Shootist - John Wayne's last movie

Smooticus

Bummer it had to be said but such is the comments section. I am glad however, there are gonna be more Western polls, it's an iconic genre that I have to admit I wasn't into so much until a few years ago, I do already have some favorites, but there are so many more I haven't seen yet.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Suggestion: No Country for Old Men

PIG

All movies are subjective.

David Crabtree

Tombstone was weak. You should add Silverado. It was a Western with a cast that doesn't generally do Westerns. Kevin Kline, Danny Glover, John Cleese, Jeff Goldblum, Linda Hunt, Roseanna Arquette, Brian Dennehy. Plus Kevin Costner in an early role, played as a young hotshot rather than the stoic badass he usually tires to portray.

PaulChristopher

A long time ago, a wise man said, "You’ve taken your first step into a larger world."

Gerald Corona

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. Truly an underrated classic

Garry L

I think it's not so much a matter of reactors not being "capable" of appreciating slower films, but rather slower films being less conducive to a reaction video. Having a hard time imagining a First Time Reaction video for MY DINNER WITH ANDRE or ANDREI RUBLEV or whatever

Patrick Flanagan

Yeah UNFORGIVEN is a weird choice as an introduction to the genre, I would think

Patrick Flanagan

So many John Wayne fans judge me for liking the True Grit remake but I loved it!

Scott Kerr

As much as I love Tombstone I'm a little bummed it's winning, since IMHO it's the weakest film on the list, with Unforgiven bring the strongest. That being said, Unforgiven is in many ways the last word on Westerns, do getting a few under your belt first before you watch that one is probably a good idea...

Steven Montano

There are some more recent Westerns that are really good. - 3:10 to Yuma (2007), The Proposition (2005), Brimstone (2016), True Grit (2010), and Hostiles (2017). I would also recommend a 7-part Netflix Western series called Godless

Scott Kerr

They'd have to follow up with "Young Guns II," if only for the Jon Bon Jovi soundtrack.

CluckingBell

I'll add "The Big Country," starring Gregory Peck as a retired naval captain who, just by being a man with nothing to prove, challenges western notions of manhood. Directed by William Wyler, with a terrific score by Jerome Moross.

CluckingBell

Leone is definitely an auteur, his fingerprints are all over his films, but auteurism doesn't automatically convey excellence. I just think there's a barrier of budget and technical sophistication when it comes to Italian genre cinema, they really cranked those things out so it's a miracle if they have any competence of craft at all.

Patrick Flanagan

I know most people of a certain age automatically say "SILVERADO" when '80s Westerns are mentioned but I agree that YOUNG GUNS is a hoot. Estevez is just great as Billy.

Patrick Flanagan

Tyrone, to be fair, Sam and TBR handle slow paced films - they reacted to and liked 2001: A Space Odyssey. They’re excellent reactors because they appreciate fine films.

Catherine LW

Oh shame on me for not thinking of this earlier. But Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight” is a good (hard) watch.

Nick of Time

2nd Opinion He should know about the Hayes Code, which didn’t allow bloody scenes.

Catherine LW

My vote here would go to The Wild Bunch, but every movie on here is dynamite (although I haven't seen all of Tombstone). You need to add The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, the best of the Sergio Leone/Clint Eastwood westerns. Also the Coen Brothers' The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs and True Grit. Three of the must-see genre-defining classics of yesteryear would be The Searchers, Shane and High Noon.

Neal Romanek

TG, TB & TU is one of my favorite movies ever.

Neal Romanek

I think TBR and Sam need to react to this now and give their opinion haha!

Lee

The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford is a terrific modern Western.

Richard Akhtar-Dobson

Yeah I would have paid, should have paid, real money for one of my four Patrons to watch Arsenic and Old Lace last month. The movie takes place on the night of Halloween, for gosh sakes.

Mike LL

Yeah, a few weeks ago I got into a discussion on a YouTube video with a guy who thought The Shootist was the most realistic Western. And I thought why would this guy think this and I replied something like he must think blood squibs equals realism and the reason he didn't like the older John Wayne westerns was because he couldn't see any blood.

Mike LL

It's completely fun and was my introduction to westerns as a young kid. Just don't let Ding Dong Melody read this or you'll be introduced to the pretentious shooting gallery in their head. Both Young Guns and its sequel are great fun, and there's nothing wrong with a little fun sometimes.

Mitchell Smilie

You're a real joy, you know that. Allow people the thrill of being hyperbolic over the things they like. I enjoy "Once Upon a Time in the West" and my appreciation of it has yet to make me the absolute worst. Ask anyone, I'm a sweetheart, If you don't like a movie selected, you don't have to watch with TBR and Sam. I know, what a concept. Jesus Christ, in a world filled with corruption and moral rot, you're accusing someone who enjoys a piece of art as the absolute worst people. Okey dokey. Please remove head from anus immediately. Thank you and good day.

Mitchell Smilie

They're getting there, give it time. They did "Psycho". "Rear Window" is on one of their other polls. They're open, they're good reactors.

Toc

Agreed, N.G.O.

Toc

I haven't seen one reaction for that movie where the reviewer was blown away. One reactor had to take it down because the spaghetti western geeks were so taken aback by her not being blown away by it, and taking issue with the fact that Cardinale is supposed to just take having her ass patted. I'd say if there's any western to stay clear of, it's "Once Upon A Time In The West", the fans of that movie are the absolute worst. And it never was a particular fantastic movie, we used to laugh at Leone's style, not pretend he was some kind of auteur.

Toc

Yeah, I'll definitely "argue" that one, it's an ok movie, it's nowhere near "the greatest western ever made", and whoever told you it was doesn't know much about westerns. How embarrassing, get some taste. Let me clue you in: spaghetti westerns ain't the best westerns. PS: Jason Robards is horrible in "Once Upon In The West", completely miscast, almost as bad as his Al Capone in "Saint Valentine's Massacre". If you have to pick one Leone movie, pick "For A Few Dollars More".

Toc

Leone's Dollar trilogy is unbelievably overrated and for dopes who were told Leone was a great director by Tarantino. Spaghetti westerns are jokes, and always were. People who tout Leone movies are obviously people who haven't seen real westerns.

Toc

I know, 'Tombstone"s is mediocre, at best. It's not just "millennials" (let's not be stupidly ageist) , it's the dopey people who spent their 1990s on in the shallow waters of 80s and 90s movies. I can take Clint Eastwood doing a western in the 1990s, he did a good job. But compared to "One Eyed Jacks", or "Stagecoach", or "My Darling Clementine" (which is fifty times better than "Tombstone), or even "The Covered Wagon" and "Hell's Hinges", both silent movies....compared to those, "Tombstone" is nothing. I'll even throw "For A Few Dollars More" on the list, even though I hate spaghetti westerns. Definitely "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid" is better. The dopiest thing is when they try and tell you it's the most authentic telling of the Wyatt Earp story....who cares? It's not as good of a movie! "My Darling Clementine" is THE Wyatt Earp movie, for about ten thousand different reasons, the first two being named John Ford and Henry Fonda.

Toc

Oh please, LOTS of movies are considered the "greatest of all time". "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" isn't even the greatest western of all time, much less "greatest films of all time". If a person who actually knew movies made a list of the greatest films of all time, "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly" wouldn't even crack the top hundred.

Toc

I know I’ll probably raise some ire but I’d like to suggest Young Guns. It’s not a classic Western but it was fun and I think TBR and Sam would like it. The other I have not seen on here is The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Mark M

Tombstone is probably the weakest film on the list! :D

Nerd Going Outside

I saw a Millennial reviewer downgrade Once upon a time in the West (1968) because the girl in the opening cut bread slices way to thick.😐

Tyrone Tyrone

The Long Riders👍

Tyrone Tyrone

Leone's Dollar trilogy is to slowly paced for the Millennial taste's.🤷‍♂️

Tyrone Tyrone

😆

INFJ-T Tyrone

I just assumed they had seen The Magnificent Seven (original 1960) I mean come on😄

INFJ-T Tyrone

Unfortunate truth.

Logan Kerlee

Agreed

Can you add Once upon a time in the West (1968) to your list/poll. Arguably the greatest Western ever made.

Lee

Tombstone is the easy pick.

PickettsChargingPort

I recommend watching “The Long Riders”, from 1980. It’s a great western about the James Gang. Fun factoid, all the sets of brothers in the gang are played by real-life brothers in the movie, including James and Stacy Keach; Keith, Robert and David Carradine; Dennis and Randy Quaid; and Nicholas and Christopher Guest. Also, check out “Lonesome Dove” (1989). It’s a fantastic four-part miniseries, starring Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones and Danny Glover.

Nick of Time

My favorite Wyatt Earp movie is HOUR OF THE GUN with James Garner and Jason Robards.

Patrick Flanagan

Yes! Unfortunately it came out during the period when critics (and a lot of the public) thought they should rag on anything Kevin Costner does. And because it's a more in-depth portrayal of Wyatt Earp", people gravitate more towards the slicker, faster paced, "Tombstone".

Miles E Coburn

Of the choices given, I'd pick "Unforgiven". But my personal favorite, for recent westerns, I'd pick "Open Range" (2003). But older westerns are great too (i.e. "The Searchers" (1965), "Rio Bravo" (1959), "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" (1962), etc.

Miles E Coburn

Go ahead and watch Tombstone for the pleasure, but come back to Leone's Dollar trilogy later for the mind blowing.

Mike LL

Because we don't watch many movies before the 70's, like they were invented then or something.

Mike LL

Totally agree. This crowning by the Millennials skew much of the entirety of the reactionverse. Give me Red River or The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance as the essential Western any day.

Mike LL

I bought the vinyl soundtrack album to The Good, The Band and The Ugly back in the 60's and it is one of my most prized possessions to this day,

Mike LL

How is The Searchers not on here?

Sean McDonough

Very much agree. Wyatt Earp is a better telling of the OK Coral story. Wild Bunch is a great "men out of time" story.

Metallica fan? Intro to all their concerts is from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. The Ecstasy of Gold.

Mark M

They are great westerns.. Also The Magnificent Seven (original 1960), True Grit from Coen Brothers, but also original. Classics Western with John Wayne are still good. I love Tarrantino Western movie ;)

David Hron

TOMBSTONE is...okay. It's fine. For some reason it's been crowned by millennials The Greatest Western Ever Made, I'm guessing because it has actors they recognize in it. Personally give me THE WILD BUNCH any day of the week...

Patrick Flanagan

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. The reason I suggest this is because it's regarded as one of the greatest films of all time and I still haven't seen it! I love the soundtrack and regularly play its music, but have not seen the film. Being able to essentially watch it with you two would be great!

Forrest

Tombstone, Unforgiven, Dances with Wolves. I'd just go with those three... no need for another poll until they're done :)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Once Upon a Time in the West, Silverado, Winchester 73 (1950), The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, Warlock (1959)

Tyrone Tyrone

I'm missing Bone Tomahawk in this poll. Next time then 😁

David Lengyel

Pale Rider is another great Eastwood flick.

Aaron Barlow

For the next Western poll: 3:10 to Yuma (2007), Once Upon a Time in the West, and Silverado are all great watches. Tombstone is overrated but it’s fun. Great cast and Kilmer delivers a memorable performance.

justDRK

OMG, yes, please do Dances With Wolves!

Raven Dark

Oh man. Dances and Unforgiven are Oscar winners, and both deserving. Tombstone is... not. Do the right thing people!

Nerd Going Outside

Tombstone is definitely winning and I love it. It's my second favorite Western and awesome, most people's favorite. But Unforgiven is both my favorite Western and my favorite Clint Eastwood movie, it's a perfect movie in my humble. Dances With Wolves is one of my all time favorite movies but it'll never win a poll, I'd be pleasantly surprised. Just an idea but I'd love a reaction to the Deadwood HBO series, loved that show.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

I'm very excited about this! I'm hoping the Western poll will be a regular entry. There are so many great westerns. You can do a poll on just Clint Eastwood westerns alone. Some of my other favorites are: “The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly” (1966) “High Plains Drifter” (1973) “The Quick and the Dead” (1995) “Silverado” (1985) To name a few…

Mr. Writhms

Solid choices all

Smooticus

I'm your huckleberry.

TheRealDooode

Thank you guys for doing a western. Tombstone, assuming it wins the poll, is a good intro for the genre because it's so damn entertaining.

Mitchell Smilie

"Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid", by a mile. "Unforgiven" definitely over "Tombstone" and "Dances With Wolves" if it's got to be a 90s western.

Tic Toc Melody

Tombstone is overrated

Faron Henderson

I’m voting on Dances With Wolves here, but they’re all fine choices.

Nick of Time

Clint Eastwood - The Outlaw Josey Wales
