First Blood (1982) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

First Blood (1982) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

I love when reactors go into a movie with pop culture-based expectations and find out they're totally wrong. The first "Friday the 13th" movie is another great example.

Great reactions, guys! “First Blood” is the best of the Rambo franchise, in my opinion. After this one, the movies, and character, devolve increasingly into more of a parody. This movie, I feel, tried to tell the story of John Rambo and the problems he has to live with. Made even more poignant, with his speech in the end. After all, in Vietnam he was trusted with millions of dollars of military hardware and machinery. And back in the real world he can’t even keep a job parking cars. The one line that I absolutely love is when he’s got Sheriff Teasle in the woods up against the tree, with his knife to the sheriff’s throat, and he says, “I could have killed 'em all, I could've killed you…” That right there should have told Teasle to let it go.

Something I’m just now picking up on after all the years I’ve watched this film. Rambo won’t give his name to the cops so they get it from his dog tags, a subtle symbolism of how much Rambo’s personality is tied to his life as a Green Beret.

I like this film, but the image of soldiers being spit on upon returning to the states is a myth. There may have been an isolated event here and there, but it certainly wasn't widespread. In 1971 the Veterans Administration commissioned a Harris poll that found that 94% of returning soldiers reported positive homecoming receptions from their peers that had not served in the military. This image sold books, newspapers, and tried to diminish the anti-war movement, but it's not rooted in reality.

Not to sound rude, but you always have the option to just not watch their Rambo 2 and 3 reactions when they come out But I am sure that there are plenty of people that are looking forward to those reactions and enjoy those movies,it's impossible to get a proper understanding of Rambo's full character and what he has been through if you just skip forward 2 movies

Agreed, Schwarzenegger is literally built for action movies, but Stallone, who's actually kind of short, is definitely a better actor. They both are mocked for their speech, Austrian Arnold has an accent, Stallone's infamous dead upper lip actually comes from an injury during birth to the nerves in his lip (forceps aka "baby tongs" were used to pull him out) I have the same defect in one of my eyebrows lol Stallone was also great acting in "COPLAND", the only movie I've seen him in where he's out of shape, but he was really good in that. Which, not for nothing, also stars Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, and Robert De Niro.

Another interesting aspect of the book this movie was based on, was that Galt was a Marine reservist and who had never seen combat, and Teasle was a Korean War US Army vet. The author also noted that even some of the older vets at the time didn't always treat the Vietnam vets too well either. Reminds me of Ron Kovac's story, I'm just gonna plug it one more time I swear lol, "Born On The Fourth Of July", less action more tears, true story.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

hahaha, it's great! Sly is by far the superior film maker but Arnold had all the better action films. I'm definitely okay with that, as I feel that Sly is a better emotional actor that Arnold.

Logan Kerlee

Yup! Big truth right there. He was super cold after that dip into the water, he needed to wear something. The fire afterward helped as well with that. (I'm going off memory, so I may have the scenes mixed up a bit)

Logan Kerlee

Glad you pointed that out. :) It was clear that he fought in a war, I felt but specifically which war, not so much.

Logan Kerlee

I also felt that it was super disappointing that he never took dramatic roles. 😕 He really is a talented actor. More than just a meat head.

Logan Kerlee

Yup. The sequels didn't hold the series up though.

Logan Kerlee

Big yup on this. The soundtrack for this was heartbreaking and thrilling.

Logan Kerlee

I'm 100% with you on that!

Logan Kerlee

That's both very true and accurate. Rambo 2 and 3 were awful. First Blood is the pinnacle of it all, either way.

Logan Kerlee

Not sure how popular this opinion is, but I'd say that Rambo 2 is about half as good as the first one and Rambo 3 is about none as good as the first one :( If you're keen for more Rambo, I'd say jump forward to Rambo (2008). It works just fine without watching #2,3 first.

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

It's a really good movie. People forget that starting with the original Rocky, Sylvester Stallone was an amazing talent. (and you've GOT to watch the first Rocky - don't have to watch all of them, but definitely the first)

Neal Romanek

I hope you guys continue on with this movie series, the first sequel is my favorite of the franchise.

David Crabtree

Not a criticism, but I think you guys end the film too early at times. Sometimes it's worth it to let the credits roll, either because there are some interesting names that you maybe didn't recognize(Mitch is David Caruso) or a great song. It was the case in this one because of the song at the end 'It's A Long Road', beautiful song. One of the first films to touch on PTSD for soldiers. There is also some in Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter.

Shehab Dawoud

Sam mentioned recognising Mitch ,his name is David Caruso and you likely will have recognised him from his 10 year spell on CSI: Miami where he played Horatio Caine

Andrew

First Blood and Rocky both had heart.

A little backstory, the author of the book the film is based on wrote the story as a redemption for all those Vietnam vets that came back from the war that got the same treatment Rambo got. Many vets got treated badly by the post 60s/mid 70s generation here in the states made up among the anti-war crowd at the time. Even soldiers who never fought on a battlefield or fired a gun after basic training were labeled baby killers. But great watch as always, hope y’all will keep up with this franchise. You will really get to see Rambo in action as the badass killing machine in the next film.

This movie really displays Stallone's acting chops at the end. That's the big difference between him and Arnold. Its a shame he didn't play more dramatic roles but once he started making millions as an action star, he didn't look back. Great reaction, as always!

Mr. Writhms

Loved your reaction to this. One thing that the book does a better job of highlighting vs the film is that the Sherriff is a decorated vet himself; in his case from the Korean War. You can see his service awards on display in his office in the film, but they don't really call any attention to them.

Joseph Tamburo

That is tonight's viewing sorted 🙌 So excited that the Stallone journey has begun on this channel and quietly confident that some of the viewing numbers on the Rambo's and Rocky's are going to break the internet 🚀

Andrew

Loving the First Blood reaction! I think when people get the impression of Rambo it is mostly the because of the many sequels but this is where it all began. Love that it subverted your expectations much the same as Friday the 13th was able to. Sam mentioned camo when he made a makeshift coat from the tarp. I think you may have missed just a few minutes earlier he was shivering. It's cold and all the Police are wearing winter coats.

Mark M

Eraser is a fun but suuuuper cheese flick. I remember seeing that in theaters as a kid.

Logan Kerlee

Well at least he took his anger out on the town . Twords the end the story he tell you wonder why he didn't kill . But you will get to see what Rambo is capable of soon enough. In fact the next movie. First Blood and Rambo are my favorite.

Anakin Starkiller

xD 100%

Just finished watching the reaction. I'm in tears over here. xD The end of this movie hits the feels for sure. Rambo First Blood definitely is an amazing film. Easily my favorite movie about Vietnam vets. The both of your feelings at the end, about how all of this could have been avoided if they simply would have let him go is spot on. The colonel saved the day big time. Many more would be dead if he would not have intervened. Rambo definitely helped inspire Predator, either that or both films share some filmmakers. LMAO National Guard.. hahaha, they're weak asses. xD Both in real life and especially in this film. That bit really made me laugh a bit. Back to the end, it REALLY moved me. After watching the whole thing and hearing that I can't help but be brought to tears. The sequels are not as good as this. First Blood is the best in the series. Still, hope we all can enjoy the sequels a bit. :) Wow, I rambled terribly there. xD Glad you both enjoyed! This is a top fave for me.

Logan Kerlee

John Rambo was the OG Kevin McAllister

Jason Dolan

One more comment yes Stallone did that fall at the cliff. Stallone broke ribs on the fall the screaming from him was real . But Stallone wanted to keep in the film because he didn't want his character to be an invincible super soilder. Stallone was in the hospital for awhile and they filmed some of the scenes around him. Stallone was a tough guy and filmed the rest of the movie.

Anakin Starkiller

I'm not going to spoil any of the other movies but once you've seen them you'll think about this movie and think even more on how lucky the cops and the people were in this movie.

Anakin Starkiller

"In town it's you out here it's me don't push it or I'll give a war you won't believe " The mere fact the he did hold back in that police station those cops were lucky he wasn't in a killing mood. He could slaughtered them all every last one of them. It's just in his blood. Unfortunately it's John Rambo is good at. He's been trained to kill and kill well.

Anakin Starkiller

Pretty excited for you guys to watch this movie I've seen it a fair few times and it's just so good I imagine a fair few memes come from this movie 🙂 welcome to the world of Rambo 🥳 still hoping you watch eraser by arnnie down the line sometime 👍

Ian

Brian Dennehy gives one of the greatest antagonist performances of all time.

Jason Dolan

This, in my humble opinion, is the best of the Rambo movies, and once again Stallone was a writer on this, like Rocky. In they're little rivalry, Stallone and Schwarzenegger, Sly likes to point that out 😆

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

I'm STOKED! I'm about to start it up!

Logan Kerlee

Interesting. I’ve never seen any of the original Rambo movies. Always wanted to see this one. Finally have a good reason to. Thank you!
