This movie, regardless of whatever King's intent while writing, has aged so well, especially when you consider how widespread toxic fandom has become. So many times fans think it is their place to dictate where a story goes, rather than acceptance of where storytellers take it. This might be the first time it's truly recognized in popular culture. There are a few books and movies that precede this one, but none of them were the critical/box office success that this one was. So much fun to revisit with you guys, as always.

Sam's reactions during the fight at the end were amazing.

One last comment, Darabont only directed two of the King adaptations you've watched, Kubrick directed The Shining and Mike Flanagan directed Doctor Sleep.

I remember the hobbling scene in the book did involve an axe. The scene in the movie made more sense in my opinion. Haven't seen this film since I was a kid. It was much more enjoyable this time around because I could appreciate the relationship between the sheriff and his wife more.

James Caan also has a great role in the war movie A BRIDGE TOO FAR that I expect these two to get to one day

Rob Reiner is one of the most underrated (and diverse) directors of the 80s and 90s:
THIS IS SPINAL TAP
STAND BY ME
THE PRINCESS BRIDE
WHEN HARRY MET SALLY...
MISERY
A FEW GOOD MEN

Great reaction, guys. Lauren Bacall, his literary agent, was a popular leading lady in her day. She and husband Humphrey Bogart were a Hollywood power couple. A good movie with her and Bogey is Key Largo.

King has said this is an allegory for his own battles with substance abuse. Annie represents the addiction, pleasant at times but explosively violent at the drop of a hat. The setting speaks to the isolation of addiction.
The two leads in this are just perfect. And Rob Reiner is an underrated director, good of you to recognize the excellent camera angles. This plus Princess Bride, A Few Good Men, Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally... Reiner is awesome.

This is my favourite Stephen King adaptation, and I've been looking forward to this reaction since you first put up the poll. And it didn't disappoint. I had a great time watching along with you!
Thanks for all the great Halloween reactions this month. I've loved them all.

Ah, the hobbling—a scene that most people who have seen “Misery” multiple times, me included, can honestly say they have only seen once. *shudder*

In regards to James Caan and where you've seen him before: He also played Sonny (the hot headed, eldest brother) in 'The Godfather'.

King wrote this as a fairly unsubtle reaction to overly aggressive fans who would write letters or approach him at book signings trying to tell him what to write.

Fantastic film, and great reaction. While there have been several fantastic film adaptations of Stephen King's novels, this is probably my favorite. Bates, Caan & Farnsworth were terrific. I was absolutely heartbroken with Buster's fate (similar to Dick Hollaran's character in "The Shining"). This was also a nice directorial shift for Rob Reiner, who at this point you guys know as the director of "The Princess Bride". 😁

Mentioned it before, but another Rob Reiner film based on a Stephen King novel, that you need to check out, is Stand By Me. Put it on your next drama poll. It's as close to a flawless film as you can get
