I'm watching this reaction after having already seen your reaction to "Midnight Mass" and every time I see Steven's wife I think, "Fuck Bev."

We totally missed that connection to the hat man! But when the hat man is closest and he starts counting to seven, that makes so much more sense! Yes, it is just so well written and although all of these things are weaved into the show, it just feels so natural. I feel like some newer shows I've watched, when every character has so much going on, it just feels forced and like they're trying to hard, but this show does it so well! Wow, thank you for the review on Flanagan's other shows! We have some other shows planned for immediately following HOHH, but I think TBR Schmitt and me have been so impressed, we'd love to watch more from him! -Sam

Omg that's so funny about Sam covering her eyes with the comfort blanket. I had wondered the same thing!

This is my favorite episode. It's so heartbreaking and it just speaks to me for a variety of reasons.

The top hat man following Luke around while he's out there on the streets is suppose to represent Luke's urge to use again. It starts out with Luke seeing him off in the distance, the urge is far enough away. He's able to keep it at bay. But the longer he stays out on the streets the closer his urge gets to him, creeping up closer and closer, The Top Hat Man, The Tall Man, the thing that scared him so badly that he wanted to hide under the bed, is the face of his demise. His drug use, his addiction. And no matter where he runs off to, there it is. His want to use. This show deals with so much; that anyone, Anyone can identify with something within the story or its fully developed and brilliantly performed characters. Whether it be dealing with the death of a loved one, or depression, or mental illness, or addiction, or suicide, or the want not to feel any connection to others (like Theo), or family traumas. This show I personally found to be therapeutic in facing all of those things listed and dealing with them in some way. And on the flipside of that coin, you have this genuine terrifying ghost story. So really this show has something for everyone. I really, really hope you guys fall down the Mike Flanagan rabbit hole and check out his other shows "The Haunting of Bly Manor" and the very recently released "Midnight Mass" (which i just finished binging all 7 episodes in one sitting and I gotta say, it truly, deeply, and profoundly affected me. So much so that I know I'll be re-watching it because I know there was probably things in it that I might've missed and moments that I would love to revisit and marvel in its glorious craftsmanship.
