I appreciate The Big Lebowski and it is beloved, but it always hits me as a bit of a bro movie. Try Fargo, Raising Arizona, The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs, No Country For Old Men and my favorite Barton Fink.

2021-10-21 21:02:43 +0000 UTCsince you just watched An American Werewolf in London i thought of another John Landis movie, 'Into The Night'(1985). It stars Jeff Goldblum(who you also recently watched in The Fly)and Michelle Pfefiffer. A few more; Midnight Run(1988) with Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin Stakeout(1987) with Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez Dirty Rotten Scoundrels(1988) with Steve Martin and Michael Caine Rushmore(1998) with Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray The next 2 have a similar feel if you enjoy black comedy/mystery/film noir. They are both from director/writer Shane Black who acted in the movie Predator as Hawkins, the guy who cracks all the jokes. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang(2005) with Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer The Nice Guys(2016) with Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe.

2021-10-12 22:07:56 +0000 UTCWe're torn because there's a handful of movies I haven't seen that TBR Schmitt does want to watch with me, but that's why we try to be transparent :) Comedies though I think are definitely an ok category for re-watches! Thank you for your suggestions! From your list, I've seen The Other Guys, Mars Attacks, The Heat and Spy! I'll have to check with TBR Schmitt on the other films :) -Sam

Shaun2342!
2021-10-12 19:11:17 +0000 UTCGaaaaa, forget the Lebowski, go with RAISING ARIZONA! Damn Lebwoski! lol. (Raising Arizona and Fargo, those are the two Cohen Brothers movies I'm dying for you guys to see!) Could I suggest two super classics that are classified as comedy, but are probably more what used to be classified as comedy-drama. (Which is what life is really like, right?! :D). George Lucas' first hit was the amazing AMERICAN GRAFFITI (1973), a sort of teen comedy period piece that takes place in the early 60s, on the last night of summer. So many actors got their start in this movie, like Richard Dreyfus and Harrison Ford. (ALSO: In the 90s, the feat was repeated again with DAZED AND CONFUSED, another teen comedy period piece that takes place in 1976 on the last day of school! And again, so many actors got their start in this movie. They are almost like cousins, and you can see how much the culture changed in just 20 years by watching these two period pieces.) The other "comedy-drama" also from 1973: PAPER MOON. Oh my god, I love this movie. Tatum O'Neal got the Oscar for this at only 8 years old! Youngest Oscar winner ever. Great, great movie, total classic, one of my favorites and will be one of yours too. VERY lastly: Woody Allen made some of the greatest comedies ever, too many to list: Sleeper, Annie Hall, Zelig and Broadway Danny Rose are my faves. Not sure where the world is on "canceling" this guy's movies, but I always separate the artist from the work itself, and I couldn't remove those movies from my DNA any more than I could remove Beatles music from it! So....just throwing that out there! Anyways, great polls, and the greatest of channels!

2021-10-05 16:37:33 +0000 UTCOk. I'm going to go way back for some classic comedies. It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World. The Odd Couple. The Great Race. And some relatively newer ones, The Villain, staring Arnold (though I know you've moved on to Stallone) I'm Not Rapaport. High Fidelity.

2021-10-04 18:05:35 +0000 UTCSorry, one more suggestion as you’ve seen my other one. The Great Dictator (1940) starring Charlie Chaplin. One of the greatest comedies/satires of all time with an important message in a scary time in world history.

2021-10-04 17:57:47 +0000 UTCPersonally, I think it would be nice if we could work through the films that neither of you have seen before getting to the ones that only one of you haven't seen. Perhaps I'm alone in that desire, though, I'm not sure! Anyhow, here's some comedy recommendations: - The Other Guys (2010) - Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg. - Get Shorty (1995) - John Travolta, Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito. - Mars Attacks (1996) - Too many stars to list (Tim Burton film!) - Fantastic Mr Fox (2009) - Wes Anderson claymation film! - Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) - Bill Murray + so many others (Wes Anderson again!) - The Heat (2013) - Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock. - Spy (2015) - Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham (in his best role of all time!)

2021-10-04 07:54:37 +0000 UTCBig Lebowski is as much a comedy as any Coen Brothers movie. It’s not comprised of jokes, but funny characters getting into extreme situations.

2021-10-04 04:33:32 +0000 UTCAlso, seeing as how much you both like Galaxy Quest, you should throw Three Amigos into your next comedy poll. How do you two feel about an Anime (Japanese specifically) poll? I can think of over half a dozen movies you'd love based on your reactions to other movies so far.

2021-10-04 04:05:08 +0000 UTCRaising Arizona is my favorite Coens movie, and my favorite Nick Cage movie. I voted for Python but they're two totally different types of comedy, quirky genius vs absolute absurdity 😆

2021-10-04 02:55:17 +0000 UTCOoh, chose one, tough choice between the top two here... I picked the one that's my favorite of the films made by one set of filmmakers, over my second favorite from the other set of filmmakers, whose catalog you definitely need to go through, those guys are still making incredible movies etc. Oh but the third in ranking now is also great. Just watch them all, you won't be disappointed and neither will we.
Joe D. MacGuffinstuff
2021-10-04 02:55:04 +0000 UTCBig Lebowski is barely a comedy. You're gonna regret not watching Wayne's world.
