Speaking of The Mist, have y'all seen "Gorillas in the Mist"? They're kinda hard to see with it being misty and all, but you can hear them and smell them from a mile away. I'm kidding. I mean the movie starring Sigourney Weaver. Based on the true story of Dian Fossey.

Thomas Jane has been a criminally underused actor.

I’ve always said that, if we ever really ended up in a post apocalyptic world where things were laid to waste and everything ran out,the people to be afraid of are the Mrs. Carmody’s of the world. They would draw all of the weak scared and gullible people.

I’ve seen this movie so many times. I know it’s directed by Frank Darabont TWD’s first producer and I knew that Carol, Andrea, and Dale were all in it. But this is the first time I saw Morales (the guy that left with his family and ended up with Negan). He was one of military guys that came in before the mist hit the store. His name is also Morales in The Mist.

Also, I loved Ollie as well and agree totally with you TBR that he was the MVP. The actor who played him is Toby Jones, putting on a great American accent I think and he was also the voice behind Dobby the house elf in Harry Potter just to let you know as I think you`ll like that little fun fact. Oh and also wondered if you recognised from Shawshank Redemption William Sadler who played Heywood in Shawshank and he was Jim (the guy with the baseball cap who ended up joining the crazy lady`s cult (LOL) in this filum?

That was an amazing reaction and I absolutely LOVED your post reaction discussion about the last few minutes of the filum and then talking about the social scenarios and how people deal with a crisis situation and the groups and philosophies that people go through and how humans made the problems through their fear and paranoia and how people can sometimes cling to anything that gives them comfort or just a reason on how to reason with the situation, even if their "reasons" are wild and extreme. WOW. Thank you both!

At the time it was somewhat of an Easter egg, since, to my knowledge, there wasn't a version of it in production, it has since been made however

@Sam, don’t blame you one bit. I watched The Mist in theaters when it came out and that ending shook me so hard I couldn’t bring myself to see it again until now, 14 years later. It’ll probably be another 14 years before I can work up the nerve to see it a third time. Lol

So interesting! Sometimes not a good adaptation, but could still be a good film, totally get it!
I don’t think I could watch this again for a long time, so I’ll take your word for it lol so dark!! But one line ugh

SO dark!! We were not even a little bit prepared for that. Absolutely, the most heartbreaking scene in a film on the channel thus far!

Oh interesting! We had no idea this film was available in black and white. I can see how that could change the mood and give it that feel, but I also think the CGI monsters held up really well! I’m excited to dig in more to spooky season as well! Lots more planned than last year 😊

Okay, yes! I can agree with this. It just seemed like a very rash decision after all they’d been through. Oh awesome! I love little Easter eggs if that’s what you could call that.

Wow thank you so much! I think you’re absolutely correct. That had to be one of the most horrific things we’ve ever watched! I was very curious if the ending was courtesy of King or Darabont, so I appreciate that knowledge, thank you for sharing! What a wild ride. Excited to get more into spooky season, even if my sleep suffers 😂

King could do a book about Roland reading the phone book and I'd read it.

@Mike horrible yes, when compared to the King books, but a good movie in its own. Good performances and great visuals.

come on, the Dark Twoer was horrible. They condensed how many books into a tiny movie?

Night Shift is a great way for people to get their feet wet with reading King. Most people find his giant novels too daunting to attempt, so the short stories are good place to start. That’s how it went for me, on a suggestion from my dad. He handed me Night Shift and said “just pick the shortest story in here and start with that.”

The “Clint Eastwood” painting in the beginning of the film is actually of The Gunslinger from Stephen King’s “Dark Tower” book series. They’ve made one film based on the books so far and it was pretty good; it starred Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba.
The scene where David promises not to let the monsters get Billy, no matter what… Definitely hits different the second time you see it.
In 2001, Marcia Gay Harden won a supporting actress academy award for her performance as painter Lee Krasner in the Ed Harris-directed dramatic biopic, “Pollock”, about the life of artist Jackson Pollock and his partner Lee Krasner. In addition to directing, Harris also played the lead role and was nominated for an academy award for his portrayal. The film is incredibly powerful and one of my personal favorites. Probably not the kind of film that would win in a Patreon poll, but I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Thomas Jane screaming/yelling/howling/crying (do we even have a word for what he was doing?) at the end is absolutely gut-wrenching. He did that VERY well, I think.

That ending was soooo dark. I had a bottle of wine while watching this reaction and was seriously tearing up at the end, and I've seen the movie before.

I usually watch The Mist in black and white, which is director Frank Darabont's preferred version of the film. There's a two disc Blu-ray set which has color on one disc and b&w on the other (along with a commentary and hours of other really interesting special features including an enlightening conversation between Darabont and Stephen King). Darabont explains that he prefers the black and white version because the movie is meant to be reminiscent of some of his favorite monster movies of the 50's and 60's and in b&w it just feels more like a classic horror film from that time. He also mentions how the CGI monsters look better (or at least not as bad and less obviously fake) in b&w.
I've been watching The Mist every year around the Halloween season for awhile now. I first read and loved the short story way back when I was a young kid in Stephen King's 1985 collection, Skeleton Crew. That, along with his first book of short stories, Night Shift, was a big part of my introduction to horror as a kid and two big reasons why I became and remain such a huge horror fan to this day. I'm excited that it's Halloween time already and I just hope it doesn't fly by so fast this year and that we can all enjoy it. I'm really looking forward to whatever is next on the channel. Watching The Mist along with your video was really fun. Thanks!

The big debate about the ending was that the actions of our heroes didn't really match their established personalities to that point. Their determination to survive that had been shown by then was not a good match to the sudden decision for mass suicide. Also, btw, the movie poster that David was working on at the beginning, was, IMHO, for the movie version of The Dark Tower, which was Stephen King's answer to the Lord of the Rings, his magnum opus.

Okay, wow. Yeah, I think that was my favourite reaction so far! It's an intense film. I don't think you two have ever been so quiet watching a film before! Too many great moments to mention :)
I think that we often forget what the word horror really means and instead just use it thoughtlessly as a category label (I know I do.) David, in the end, surely experienced what can only be called pure horror... perhaps more than anyone in any other film. That horror leaks out of the screen and infects anyone watching it. I remember just feeling numb for a while after watching it for the first time.
The story of the ending is interesting. The novella by Stephen King that the movie is based on just ends with them all pulling into a motel. Darabont wrote this new ending into the screenplay himself. The movie studio offered him double the budget if he would just change the ending. He refused. King has said that he prefers Darabont's ending :)
Anyhow, what a great way to start spooky season!! :D
