The real-life Eric Kocher was also in the show, not just as an advisor. He played Captain Patterson’s driver.

Ha, your post actually made me research post-invasion lives of these guys and I came back to share this podcast with Rudy, wearing the very same outfit as in the video you have posted. He talks about his life coming back from the Iraq and it's pretty gnarly and emotional. It also explains the flashpoint with Ray during the game in the last episode. He had rather rough childhood too. Here it is: https://youtu.be/TO1Abk5detE

Thanks, Dave. I appreciate it. I was particularly struck by one of the videos featuring Rudy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBDLXL6gEsA

You might like a couple of videos lying around the internet. Here's Colbert for example https://youtu.be/2oLI0XrIt88

I feel like this show is so different from the other war themed shows because of the war they're depicting. I think it's the global consensus that there are at least two wars America has fought and won, WW2 and the Civil War, in which the US was unequivocally and undeniably the "good guys". Although there is disagreement about whether the US should have dropped the A Bombs but I don't want to open that can here. To me this show really highlights the fact that for the boots on the ground fighting troops, it's a job that you do to the best of your ability and training, like they said in Black Hawk Down, it's about the man next to you, you do your f@*kin job because it keeps them, you and each other, alive. The rest is for the politicians, both civilian and military to f@*k up. The show definitely pulls no punches and it's interesting how Iceman's, and others', predictions about what would happen later were spot on. I do remember where I was on 9/11, and my first thought when I heard the US would be invading Iraq over WMDs, "this is gonna be a shit show".

What an interesting final episode that was. I was positive that it'd be an abrupt, shitty ending... with only 7 episodes... but I think they actually wrapped it up perfectly. It was happy, sad, frustrating, confusing... and then it's over. Perfect. I found it particularly interesting that they included that conflict between Ray and Rudy, during the football game. Still not sure what to make of that, but it fascinates me. I think someone else in the comments here mentioned that Rudy was actually played by the real marine himself. How cool is that? Jesus, that guy is built like a fucking gorilla. I'm reminded of that scene in the first episode where he puts on all his mop gear and runs laps around the camp... I really need to start working out again :S Anyhow, that was SO MUCH fun going through that series again with you two. Keep up the great work, boys and girls! :D edit: I must admit, I'm DYING to know what happened to each of the individuals we followed throughout the series. If I had to bitch about one thing it's that we didn't get the "and here's what they're doing today" section of the end credits. Oh well.

That was quite a ride! I have rewatched the whole thing with you and your comments gave me a quite new perspective on some events in the show. I'm happy that you find this miniseries impressive and you have enjoyed it as well. See you at the Masters of the Air!

The perfect description for the show! So glad you’re enjoying it though -Sam

I purchased the show and I’m on episode 4 now, watching it along with you guys. I’m really glad I did. This show does not hold back and so far it’s been both frustrating and illuminating. Thank you!
