Lone Survivor (2013) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

I also want to make a recommendation in this comment thread: "American Sniper" based on the life of SEAL sniper Chris Kyle portrayed by Bradley Cooper. The movie was directed by Clint Eastwood.

Great reaction to this movie. Marcus's twin brother Morgan (himself a former SEAL) represents my district outside of Houston in the Texas House of Representatives.

Yeah, the footage at the beginning is from a documentary on BUDS which is the Navy SEAL training. And Mike Murphy is in the Terminal List.

It's Mark Whalberg Trilogy. Lone Survivor, Deep Water Horizon, and Patriot's Day. All are great.

Also Peter Berg did a great film on the Boston marathon incident called Patriots day.

Great reaction, to a very well done heartbreaking movie. When I saw this in theaters, the whole theater was quiet and solemn during the montage at the end showing the fallen. I later found out that Marcus Lutrell played a part earlier in the movie and in the fallen helicopter scene, which made me glad knowing they consulted him on the movie.

Yes, we just finished the last episode of Generation Kill in real time, and it was very interesting seeing these back to back. This movie was a whole other level, and I was not expecting this type of brutality since I didn't know what we were getting into. Thank you! And thank you for the recommendations! I need to check out Friday Night Lights too :) -Sam

That is wild! I can't even imagine any person making it through that situation, so that is even more insane to know that was mostly realistic. -Sam

Indeed, it is particularly interesting watching this film while finishing up Generation Kill. Brad and some of the other marines in GK speak about their time in Afghanistan with such reverence - solid command and competent enemies. Commander Kristensen does seem solid (of course he's a SEAL commander, not a marine commander) and the Taliban are certainly NOT like the enemy that the marines face in GK: That assault on the SEALs was organized quickly and effectively... those fuckers have been fighting "invaders", on their home turf, for decades. Additionally, the SEALs in this film mention that their mission is to take out a guy who has been killing marines... a nice, inadvertent tie-in with GK. Anyhow, that was a great reaction, you guys. Glad you found it so powerful and affective. The writer/director of this film, Peter Berg, has a very interesting (and bizarrely eclectic) filmography. I STRONGLY recommend his film The Kingdom (about terrorism and Saudi Arabia). After that, but less urgently, you've got Hancock (dark fucking super hero movie before marvel came along) and Deepwater Horizon (about the real oil spill, with Marky Mark again.) edit: Friday Night Lights, huh? Cool. Downloading it now :)

I remember soon after this was released, Marcus was interviewed multiple times about how realistically the events were depicted, and he said it was very very close to what happened
