Jaws (1975) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Jaws (1975) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

I just watched an episode of The Danger Man from the early 1960s and who shows up as a guest star? Robert Shaw. Great spy series starring Patrick McGoohan.

thansen

fact, the story Quint tells about the two torpedoes hitting the Indianpolis and the crew getting eaten by Sharks is a true story. The actor was also massivley drunk during the scene and it was difficult to shoot

James

You guys are hilarious with your observations and comments. One of my favs was Sam at 1:03:55: "Can sharks hear whistles". Totally misreading the situation. Although it is a valid question, but from what I've read, sharks tend to hear lower frequency noises.

Guston Zimasheen

I just found this video on YouTube where this guy filmed great white sharks near humans with a drone. The sharks filmed here show absolutely no interest in the humans and just ignore them, or if they are swimming towards them, turn away from them when they realize it's not their food. Apparently the sharks love the high amount of oxygen in the waves of the shallow waters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQ1ZOfb8acg

The USS Indianapolis story was partly true and partly not. Sharks did kill some of the men in the water but others things also attributed to the "only 316 of the nearly 900 men set adrift after the sinking survived." This movie no matter how much I love it is responsible for horrible senseless killing of sharks after the movie came out. "Shortly after the movie debuted, fishermen killed sharks by the thousands, showing that they could bring down these maligned supervillains. Fishing tournaments were set up, rewarding those who could catch the biggest or meanest-looking shark." And it gets several theories about sharks incredibly wrong, however, because people like all of us loved it so much, it caused more people to be interested in sharks than scared. So people actually started studying sharks and the reason we have things like Shark Week today is because of those people. My grandparents were the type to not really care what we watched at their house when we were visiting. I saw this at 5, and Chrissie Watkins's final words in the beginning, screaming, "GOD HELP ME, PLEEEAAAAASE!" Scared me to death as a kid and if I think of the scene I can hear her scream it in my head even if I'm not watching it. Bravo to both of you watching this having fears of the water already.

vicious tyler

That's epic. Scheider sounds like a cool dude.

Aaron Barlow

What a great reaction! LMAO. That was every bit as fun as I thought it would be. If you want another good movie that has a few minor jump scares but isn't too terrifying, with some great special effects and good musical score, you guys should react to Jurassic Park. The first film. The music is also done by John Williams, the same composer who did the music for Jaws, and one of my favorite composers.

True story..Roy Schrieder ("Cheif") died about 15 years ago, but in about 1988, my brother was a cab driver in Detroit, and Roy Schrieder got in his cad to go to a hotel, my brother looked in mirror and knew him, my brother said, "Mr Schrieder, can I ask you to say that line for me?" ..Roy Schreider smiled and said, "ok, for you .."WE'RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BOAT" ..my brother said that was the best "tip" he ever had as a cab driver.

John Mccormick

Man, I haven't watched this in years. This came out the year I was born. 😁 I forgot how efficiently paced and frightening this film is... it's easy to see how this became a career-making film for Spielberg.

Steven Montano

Their characters didn't get along on screen too for similar reasons, Shaw was a rough drinking type, Dreyfuss a professional young nerd. Ironically it was the drinking that made them get along in the script lol.

Aaron Barlow

John Williams is The Man <3 The girl being pulled around in the water effect was actually the crew pulling that poor actress round in the water using ropes under the water, and she was in such pain from being yanked around meant those screams were actually the actress really screaming, so they kept it in! Also John Milius, a famous director / screenplay writer etc who wrote Quint`s Indianapolis monologue (he also directed the original Conan and tons more stuff), I actually am good friends with his son Marcus, he lived over here for a lot of years in England and I met him he taught me harmonica and we`re still very good friends after 20 years still he visits over here when he can, such a down to earth guy for someone from such a famous family

Andy Farmer

My friend Kazzy had thought she had seen Jaws only to realize she had seen Jaws 4 The Revenge, where they needed a bigger banana boat.

Jason Dolan

lol I'm the same way! I'm chill on the beach with Chief Brody.

Stoney Soprano

I didn't know this was based on a true story!! Omg! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

That's terrifying!!! Honestly, I would be afraid of anything in the water, even if it was just a whale. A big nope for me on the ocean! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Hahaha! Thank you! That was probably the worst part of any movie we've seen so far! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I think the combination of drowning and the attack is what gets me, but a Grizzly attack doesn't sound good either! Thank you! We haven't seen any David Lean films! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

This was way more stressful than I thought it would be! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thank you! I know what a bummer that the sequels don't seem to hold up :( There's no logic needed when it comes to the ocean for me, just a big NO! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

So scary!! Thanks for the support as always, Justin! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha! It doesn't matter what age you are, if you don't know that thing is coming, it is terrifying! We've taken a lot of my family over the years and it's their first time and they're always terrified! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yay, thank you! Wow I would like to read that. Insane! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Hope you enjoyed it after all these years! The Indianapolis story was heartbreaking! Even worse to find out it was real. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha we're in the same boat! Can't believe we waited so long! Wow that's insane! I didn't know that, but he's so talented, it's all worth it! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ooh I didn't know this was a book! The film was fantastic! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Us too! We'd just never gotten around to it, but so glad we did now! -Sam

I saw Jaws the week it opened in 1975. I was 10 yrs old and my friend forgot his glasses so we sat in the 2nd row of the theatre. It was completely full. The audience sounded like they were on a rollercoaster throughout the movie. Screams and laughs! I have probably seen Jaws 150 times and never get tired of it. When we got our first VCR (videotape machine) it was the movie I recorded and watched over and over. It may be a perfect film and why Spielberg became the greatest filmmaker of the past 50 years. You really should watch it again and notice the incredible shot composition. A few notes... the woman in the opening scene was attached to ropes in three directions and pulled from below by crew. Her screams were her actually screaming from the pain of the ropes. The script was written nightly as they kept updating the story. Yes, Bruce only worked once in awhile and there was a lot of down time. Supposedly Dreyfuss and Shaw did not get along as Shaw was a heavy drinker and Dreyfuss a young perfectionist. The Indianapolis scene had to be shot a few times as Shaw was very drunk the first time and could not get through it. The next day he apologized and then went on to perform that legendary speech.

Michael Rhine

I love it, one hates the shallows the other the deep ocean, together they're "no ocean", or they're band name would be "The Notions". A favorite fun fact is the John Milius connection between Jaws, Apocalypse Now, and Conan the Barbarian. John Milius wrote Quint's USS Indianapolis story in this, well he wrote a version of it, Robert Shaw who played Quint was also a playwright, so he took what Milius wrote and condensed it into what you see in the final cut. Milius also wrote Robert Duvall's whole "napalm in the morning" scene in Apocalypse Now, and he wrote the opening monologue in Conan The Barbarian, which he also directed. Also, the character of Walter Sobchak in The Big Lebowski is partly based on him.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

I saw this in the theater when I was 7 in '75. It was also two weeks before our family trip to Florida. I didn't go out more than waist high that year. 😂 I also dreamed my bed was a boat for about a year afterwards. I was so waiting for the chalk scene and Hooper's first diving scene! Great reaction.

Rob M

The Revenge is the one sequel that I've seen and you're right. It's ridiculous.. I saw it years ago as a kid and thought it was goofy even then. Lance Guest (from Halloween 2), Mario Van Pebbles and Michael Caine join Lorraine Gary (the Chief's wife) in that one as the shark somehow figures out how to hunt her down and take its revenge. Now that's a wacky movie!

Mike Tocci

You’re correct, but even the main plot of this story is based on actually events in 1916 New Jersey, where one shark killed four local residents.

Nick of Time

Ugh… the sequels. They exponentially get worse. Part 2 is watchable, 3 is laughable, and The Revenge is one of the worst films ever. 😂

Nick of Time

I just got the Jaws blu-ray this past week so it was a perfect coincidence. I hadn't seen Jaws in years and it was great watching it again along with your video. I also bought the discs for the three sequels, only having seen one of them before and knowing their reputations, but I'm still interested in seeing what they're all about. Sometimes bad movies can be fun too so I'm looking forward to watching them soon as well.

Mike Tocci

A great thing JAWS does to establish that they are not dealing with an ordinary shark is the exchange between Quint and Hooper where they confer with each other and acknowledge they've never dealt with a shark like this before. To me, this isn't necessarily an indictment of all sharks. Also, the Indianapolis story is true. So it isn't as far fetched as it has been portrayed to be in recent years. Not all sharks are these sharks, or this shark, but there are sharks as dangerous as these sharks in the ocean. But this film is also just a horror movie of what can happen if this did happen and that's what the best movies do, they ask that question, what if this happened?

Jason Dolan

I've heard Bull 🦈 are worse than Great Whites. They are angry and have the reputation that this movie gives. They'll attack anything in the water and have a ferocity of fighting Pitt bull .

Anakin Starkiller

Sam has the best reaction in the history of reactions to the chalkboard scene

Jason Dolan

Shark attack is definitely up there in terrible way to die. Grizzly attack is worse, IMO. Fun reaction, guys! Have you watched any David Lean films? Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago… nice meaty epics with stunning cinematography.

Catherine LW

Even though I know how it turns out, i still get tense during the dock scene. The TV reporter was the author, Peter Benchley, by the way.

Texas Anla'Shok

Great video guys! Loved seeing your reaction to this classic. Too bad the sequels aren't even really watchable. This was one of the first movies I remember seeing as a kid and yeah..didnt even go in the pool for a long time lol. I live in the Bay Area so of course The Bay itself became terror central for my mind and getting attacked even tho sharks rarely make it into the Bay.

Stoney Soprano

Enjoyed watching it all over again. Thanks for the fun review. This movie gets overlooked because of the age and because people think it won’t be scary. Still scary today.

ADPTBL

Great reaction, I knew you'd love this movie. I didn't see Jaws in the theater (I was four), but on a family trip to Universal, we went on the cheesy Jaws ride. Well, I was so young and sitting right on the edge. I had no idea the shark was going to pop up, and it scared the crap out of me. Seriously traumatized. For about 5 years after I had reoccurring shark nightmares. I saw the movie for the first time in college, I think it is great. But nothing was more terrifying that the stupid Jaws attraction at Universal to me though. LOL

Jen Barnes

That was A LOT of fun! Maybe my favourite reaction so far :) For those interested in non-fiction, the book "In Harm's Way" details what happened on the USS Indianapolis and is absolutely excellent.

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Lol. It was "smile you son of a bitch."

Shaun2342!

Yes, same here. I thought, oh well here's an excuse to watch this for the 74th time!

Allen S.

Nice. I don’t think I’ve watched “Jaws” for a few years now; I guess it’s time to dust off that VHS and give it a view. I still think the scariest part is simply Quint telling his Indianapolis story. All the more scary when you know that’s a true story. Don’t watch any of the sequels. 😂

Nick of Time

I grew upon Lucas/Spielberg movies, but actually managed to miss Jaws until I was in my late twenties. I remember watching it—how quintessentially Spielbergian it felt— it was like returning to my youth for a couple hours. I excitedly called my friends, and all of them were like “….you’d never seen JAWS?!” 😄 Edit to add: This movie nearly ended Spielberg’s career; it went SO overtime (like 3-4 times as long as was scheduled) and so over-budget that the studio was trying to fire him for weeks—he kept hiding out on the island at night and getting out on the water early so they couldn’t catch him (wonderful days before cellphones; yes there were radios but you can’t PROVE somebody is hearing your radio transmissions). If it hadn’t been the highest grossing movie of all time, up to that point, he likely couldn’t have got hired again by any studio. Close Encounters went nearly as badly. Indiana Jones was the movie where he proved he could deliver on time and on budget.

Warren H

Really looking forward to seeing your reaction to this guys the acting is fantastic as are the characters in this one, strangely I actually read the book long before I saw the film and both are excellent as I'm sure after watching you will agree 🙂 just don't go out in the water 🦈

Ian

Wow. I still can't believe you haven't run across this movie before. Can't wait to link up and watch the whole thing - great excuse to revisit a classic!
