Season 2 isn't as perfect as 1 but I still enjoyed it a lot. Great cast. I'm about to start 3 finally

I'd recommend the Wire if you like great detective procedurals, the first three seasons are perfect and there are so many great characters. The last two seasons are almost as good. There are so many great actors that got there start from that show, along with the Oz.

You guys need to watch The Leftovers. For real. Trust me. You would love it.
(I didn't realize Patty from the Leftovers was in this episode. She is also the lady from the Handmaids Tale.)

The place that Rust was following the killer through is an old fort on the gulf coast. Probably built in the early 1800s. There are several down in that part of the country and some are preserved as national historic sites. There's one in Alabama called Fort Morgan I think and you can walk around inside and see where they had the cannons and all the different rooms. They did such a great job of turning that into a set. I don't know if you noticed that the little wooden sculptures they kept showing us were all over that place but they were taller than Rust there. If you go back and listen to what the killer says in that scene it will give you the creeps even more. This is such a great show and I completely agree with you ... we need more Marty and Rust!! I had the same feelings you did at the end. Both of those guys did such a great job of showing PTS from that whole event and the regret that both characters are living with... Marty seeing his family as he probably always envisioned them to be if he didn't make all those mistakes, and Rust longing for his daughter. I love it because both of these guys are so flawed and it gives them so much depth as real people. This show did a great job building these two up as people who we see as real people with real issues. Finally, I have to say that Matthew McConaughey knocked it out of the park playing Rust. Probably one of my favorite characters of all time.

I'd love to see The Sopranos, but it's obviously hard to commit to shows with dozens of episodes. Another short show from HBO that's worth checking out is "The Night Of." Only 9 episodes, high quality, and very unusual.

You're probably looking at early access episodes that you don't have access to. There are separate videos for non-early access

Yes!! Completely agree with this! We could watch so much more Marty and Rust, but I’m glad they ended their story on high!
Natural Born Killers is on our list!

So much about this season is so good, but what strikes me most is the writing and the delivery of those lines by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Rust's words especially hit me as a being a particular brand of hard to swallow truth. A truth' while often hatd to deal with and seemingly pessimistic, one that still holds a certain amount of hard to come by and well earned hopefulness. Marty is a perfect foil and friend for a guy like Rust and so their working partnership and eventual friendship is the engine that powers this show and makes it so rewatchable.
Unlike so many televison disappointments, this one doesn't pull any punches and it doesn't milk its premise dry with an unnecessary and watered down second season with the same characters doing more of the same stuff to ever diminishing effect. It's a quick, hard hitting eight' one hour long episodes and then, done. It leaves you with a whole lot to think about. I know I came away from this, my second viewing of the show, with plenty to ponder about "life, the universe and everything."
I'm not a big fan of too many TV shows so whatever you guys watch next, it'll be really, really difficult to top this one. But there are always more great movies to watch and that's what I'm looking forward to next. (Don't forget Pacino!!!)
***If you've never seen Natural Born Killers starring Woody Harrelson and written and directed by Oliver Stone (from a story by Quentin Tarantino), I think it would be great for the channel - especially the longer, extended version.***

How come I have 8 unlocked but not 7 or 6. What kind of crap is that?

Ah, it’s done—I hated the show being over back when I watched it, but they all have to end, and what an ending. Glad you liked it, not that I doubted you would. Not quite the same thing, but you should seriously consider the series “Justified”…the first time I watched that one, about five episodes in, I thought it was pretty good but a little episodic. You have to let it build steam and let the characters grow. A couple episodes into the second season I was hooked HARD, and even though there are six seasons of that one I still didn’t want it to end. 😎.
Edit to add: it just now occurred to me, with his line about light conquering darkness—Rust ends the story as no longer a pessimist…Optimist might be kind of a strong word to apply, but he no longer seems to think that it was all pointless.

Great reaction. I love this show so much.
So you have to watch Ed TV. It is not the best movie ever but it has Matthew McConaughe and Woody Harrelson and they play brothers. It is a comedy but these two actors on screen is so good.

The Yellow King and Carcosa originate in the 1895 collection of short stories The King in Yellow by Robert Chambers. H.P. Lovecraft and other cosmic horror writers have used the Yellow King and Carcosa in their own works. Carcosa is usually depicted as a lost ancient city in another universe. When Rust enters the "throne room" there's a skull and bone statue with tattered yellow robes - the Yellow King or a depiction thereof. He sees the black hole-like vision just as the killer attacks. The killer tells him, "Come die with me," and mentions he's close to his ascension. One interpretation is that Rust isn't hallucinating like usual, he's actually the final sacrifice for the killer to ascend to Carcosa - whatever that means - and the vision is supernatural. The cops are always calling these people devil worshipers because they have no other frame of reference, but they're actually worshiping a Lovecraftian elder god. Whether or not that elder god exists in the True Detective universe is up to the viewer.
Anyway, fun seeing your reactions, keep it up!

Probably the single most stressful episode of TV I've ever seen. So amazing. I know some people don't like seasons 2 & 3, but I really enjoyed them both. Neither tops season 1, but they are certainly worth watching.
