I've been searching for a reactor I like that reacted to this movie. This is one of my all-time favorites. I like it FAR better than the first two. I know I'm in the minority, but people forget this film was nominated for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and a bunch of other awards. I LOVE the focus on the corruption of the church, the modern setting, and the charisma of Andy Garcia... it's an amazing movie. I'm only a few minutes in, hoping you guys like it too.

It is definitely worth watching and not as good as the first two. It wraps up the Michael Corleone story. I love the evolution of Connie in this movie. Also it sets the stage for another movie if anyone wants. I agree with your feeling about Michaels son. He is ungrateful.

If you haven't seen it yet, The Irishman is very much in the Godfather/Casino/Goodfellas ballpark.

Seeing this again with you was great. I saw it in the theatre and hated it. My biggest disappointment when I first saw this was Sofia Coppola as Mary. Originally Winona Ryder was cast to play her and I think that would have taken to a whole new level. I will say I think Diane Keaton's looking at Michael after the assassination is anger that he caused this, not feeling sorry for him, IMHO.

Pacino is definitely one of the greatest actors of all time and he's my favorite actor ever. I hope you guys can do more of his stuff on the channel. I really, highly recommend just about all of Al Pacino's movies, but especially And Justice For All, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon and Carlito's Way. I know these won't disappoint. And there are plenty more where they came from.
Thanks for doing the whole Godfather saga, it was a lot of fun!

There was a fourth Godfather being planned around the late 90's. According to what is rumored, Leo di Caprio was going to play a young Sonny and the idea was to follow Sonny's rise to power in the time period before GF 1 took place. I reckon de Niro would have played an older Vito. The other story was supposed to follow Andy Garcia playing Vincent as the new Godfather.
Unfortunately, Mario Puzo, the author of the books and collaborator of Coppola passed away, which threw off the plans. I would like to see this continuation play out, but without Coppola I can't see it happening.

Vincent's mother was Sonny's mistress from the first film. The one he was having sex with during the wedding party. The same actress came back for the role. Originally, Tom was supposed to have a major role in the film, but the studio didn't want to pay what Robert Duvall wanted, so he walked away.
A similar situation happened in the second movie where a salary dispute lead to Richard S. Castellano (Clemenza) not returning. However in that case, the role was replaced with the character of Frank Petengelli instead of radically changing the story as Duvall's departure caused.
Carlo, the glasses murderer was the same bodyguard from the first film.
Winona Ryder was hired to play Mary Corleone, but she fell ill right before production. Sofia Coppola was a last minute replacement. Ryder felt so guilty that when the script for Dracula came to her a couple of years later, she brought it to Coppola.

In the original cut of Part III, Michael slumps over in his chair and dies at the very end of the film. Coda: The Death Of Michael Corleone is an even better title and this version hits even harder than the original as Michael doesn't actually, physically die, but he dies a million deaths inside.
Michael is forced to live with all the regret, all the guilt from his own decisions over the years. He's so alone at the end of his life and he must blame himself. The guilt must be crippling. His beloved daughter is dead at a young age from a bullet that was meant for him. He had his own brother, Fredo, killed. He lost his son because Anthony knew what his family had been about and wanted no part of it. He lost his first wife in an explosion meant for him. Michael shut out Kay, the mother of children, from his life and he only lived to regret it.
His choices and his lust for power have left him alone to be guilt ridden and miserable. The suffering of all that regret must be such a tremendous weight on Michael's soul. It must be worse than no longer being alive, thus living like this is the true death of Michael Corleone. I think that's what Coppola was referring to in his brief introduction when he said this new title becomes even more clear with this recut version.

The confessions from Michael would take longer than this entire saga 😯😮

The Vatican is just a piece on the chess board . But they are the Queen on the Chess board if Michael is the King . And well Michael he was in a checkmate.

Yes Vincent was a hothead but he was loyal to Michael and the family. In fact he was more loyal than some of the men he had around him. All he wanted to do was protect the family. Even if he did act like a gangster. Michael still needed that type brutal protection I mean he wasn't opening up a McDonald's.

That beautiful and gorgeous dark haired young Italian actress is actually Francis Ford Coppola's daughter Sophia Coppola. She is currently a Director now. You would probably know her most popular film she Directed Lost In Translation 🙂

This version is about 10 minutes shorter than the original, this version begins differently, it has some different music, some scenes are reordered while others are cut all together for pacing (mostly for pacing, I believe) and the ending is different in that Michael actually does die in the original version, slumping over and falling off his chair in that final scene.

Coppola also recut and rereleased his 1984 film, The Cotton Club in 2019, calling it The Cotton Club Encore.

The original Godfather 3 was nominated for 7 Oscars so fairly well received in that sense. But Coppola and George Lucas both have a tendency to remake their own films, i.e. the Star Wars Trilogy Special Editions and the many versions of Apocalypse Now.

There are two main differences between this version and the original: Originally, the scene where Michael confesses to the priest about Fredo’s death happens much later in the film. And the original ending goes on a bit longer after Michael puts on the sunglasses; he slumps over in his chair and falls dead in the street.

I just don't think people like the ending because it was just sudden. I can't speak for anyone else but I personally like the new version much better.

😆 People were saying I was spoiling this film in an earlier comment section when i said Michael dies in it, but I knew it was in the original title that Coppola intended. And lo and behold, you react to the “Coda: Death of...” version. I’m just loving the irony. 😁

This one better completes the story and is less confusing. It wasn't that the film wasn't good it just was confusing at times and had a very bizarre ending .

This is the better the version that matches the other two and the one Coppola wanted to be seen. So you guys are getting the better version.
