Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Enjoyed, as always, the effort you two put into really watching and paying attention—so many “reactors” are so busy performing and trying to be cute that they miss a lot of the movie. I remember seeing this when it came out, forgot how funny it was! Since you were talking about Vietnam movies, I’ll tell you that the ONE Vietnam movie my father, uncle, and two cousins (all of whom were combat arms veterans of that war) actually do not hate is the film “We Were Soldiers.” As far as they’re concerned, the other famous movies about that war were made by anti-war people FOR anti-war people. You have to remember that the veterans of Vietnam were treated like crap for decades, largely because of he media narrative of their day. When I came back from Iraq, it’s like the country went almost overboard praising us, mainly (I think) because of some pent-up guilt.

Probably not something to react to for the channel, but if you enjoy Robin Williams just going off and being hilarious, may I recommend his 2002 stand-up special “Robin Williams: Live on Broadway”. So effing funny!

He was always a light, a great man and actor! We haven't seen "The World According to Garp", we'll need to give it a watch! -Sam

I've added Wag the Dog to our list, thank you! We completely didn't put that together that he was in The Godfather Part II! -Sam

For another war comedy, I'd like to recommend, M*A*S*H (1970) which was the original movie on which the 1972 TV show was based. Also, Kubrick's, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964).

I came here to say this exact same thing about the twins they thought should be in THE SHINING

My favourite performance of Robin Williams is definitely Good Will Hunting. If you guys haven't seen it yet, it would make a great drama addition to the polls. And on a totally random note, Spy (2015) is one of the funniest movies I've seen in years. Jason Statham totally steals the entire film. Definitely consider that one too!

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

You probably didn't realize the twins who approve the news played a role in Terminator 2 - the security guard who gets killed while getting coffee - his twin played the terminator copy that came up behind him and speared him through the head with his finger.

I'm so glad you guys watched this. I've seen this a dozen times and it never gets old. A brilliant performance by Williams caps a perfect balance between drama and comedy. Just a terrific film. (Added bonus: every time I watch it I catch a joke I never heard before. 😁)

Did you mean to post this movie on Robin Williams' bitrthday? Or was this some fantastic coincidence? Please say the latter. Lie to me. It's okay. 😉

Great movie 💙 Robin Williams was so damn talented, I usually think it's odd to mourn a celebrity I never actually knew or even met but I grew up loving him, going way back to Mork and Mindy reruns haha, I do actually miss him. Another great performance, and one of his first if not his actual first movie, is a favorite of mine, "The World According To Garp". It's kind of a deep cut but a really great little movie, not for the channel but if you ever get a chance to watch, I think it's worth it.

Happy Birthday, Robin Williams!

A really good film from director Barry Levinson is Wag The Dog (1997). It's got a great cast too, Dustin Hoffman and Robert DeNiro star along with some other actors you'd probably be familiar with. Bruno Kirby, who played Hauk, was just seen on the channel as the young version of caporegime Pete Clemenza in The Godfather Part II.

Awesome!
