Chernobyl Part Three ‘Open Wide, O Earth’ Full TV Reaction!!

episode proper about 1.13

AdrianF

I was reading about the firefighter who was featured with his pregnant wife. His name was Vasily Ivanovich Ignatenko. He had a chance to survive with a bone transplant. He had two sisters an older sister and a younger sister. The younger one who was 13 was a better match but he would not allow it because he was afraid for her health. They went with the older sister but it didn't work. Just another example of the type of person first responders are.

Fusion power hasn't been invented yet supposedly.

Aaron Barlow

That was only finished a few years ago. 2018ish. It's the New Safe Containment Unit. The original one was slapped together. This one is designed to last a hundred years.

Reed James

On Google Earth you can see the dome if you put in Chernobyl reactor 4 . It is a massive dome that covers the entire reactor. It looks like something from The Last of Us 😕

Question is would you do the same with your loved ones if you were that woman seeing her husband. If it were my family I probably would . But I'm sure these people feel helpless. My state of Washington is working on a plant that will provide nuclear Fusion a type of fuel that is said to be safer . They don't how long it take to complete it and who knows if it will be safer . But something has to change we can't keep using this crap forever.

Also, after you've finished watching the series and are doing additional research on the topic, I recommend the youtube channel Plainly Difficult's series on it. He talks a bit about how the reactor works. The design is is cheaper than other reactor designs, but the cost savings comes at the price of it being less safe to operate. https://youtu.be/IkBJU8BbrUs And I didn't know this, but apparently there were smaller meltdowns at two reactors of the same type before this meltdown. Leningrad in 1975 and Chernobyl's Unit 1 in 1982. https://youtu.be/9u_voe26ZLw Both incidents were covered up by the state.

I hope they don’t read the YouTube comments for this episode - so many spoilers! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sam/TBR, you don't have to sneak into Chernobyl to visit. You can take a tour. https://chernobyl-tour.com/english/

I believe those were lead-lined coffins they welded shut. The fireman’s wife, Lyudmilla Ignatenko, actually visited the hospital every day, bringing food and comfort to all the firefighters as well as her husband. I don’t think she understood the danger of radiation poison, as you both noted. Great reaction- looking forward to the next one!

more than you think is actually exactly like the reality. the show didnt really overplay anything.

Nyxtomania

It's sad that comments spoiled you about Khomyuk being a fictional character though, you would have got that info at the end of the show anyway. I hope you won't get any more spoilers.

Sweet Owl

looking forward to more of these. The cast kills it in their role.

Carlos Hurtado

YES!! I've been waiting for this.
