Wow that is incredible that you went to visit! I honestly think I'd be panicking going anywhere near Chernobyl! Based on a few comments, I did check out the city on google earth and it's so eerie! It looks like a scene out of movie with the overgrown trees and everything just completely abandoned. Crazy! -Sam

Thank you. It's been absolutely heartbreaking so far and I think it's just going to get worse. I completely agree! The end was devastating. -Sam

Absolutely heroic! Even though the information wasn't given to them up front, I'm glad they had all of the information and knew what they were getting into before making that decision. -Sam

I sort of thought the same, Ron. It was hard to tell if they were suffering from radiation poisoning or if the smoke or any other factors were involved, but that was also my first instinct. -Sam

"Send the next one in." *shudders*. Sam, I think you hit the nail on the head when you used the word "dread" to describe the feelings evoked from the show. Yeah. Nevertheless, I do think this episode might be one of the best hours of television ever produced. The two scientists, and the guy who plays the male scientist's "superior" (Stellan Skarsgard) were absolutely brilliant. That final scene of the three technicians slowly losing power to their lights, as their meters crackle more and more loudly, was so intense that I'm pretty sure I forgot to breathe for a few minutes. That was put together beautifully. So glad you guys picked this show. edit: Had the wrong Skarsgard. There's so many of them!

Those three men did volunteer to release the water valve. I thought they were heroic. Boris Shcherbina, the white haired party official, who you were discussing but not remembering his name, did do an about face after contemplating his mortality in all this. I thought his speech to those men, “… this is what sets our people apart, a thousand years of sacrifice in our veins… every generation must know its own suffering…” was very moving. I don’t know if it actually was said, but it was well written.

When this happened I was 11 years old. I remember first seeing this. I thought the reason it hit the cable was that the people were all jacked up from the radiation. Either way, it was a really scary time.

Great reaction as always! I'm glad someone finally noticed the helicopter hitting the crane, everyone else thought about radiations destroying the metal or something like that. (Not) fun fact: the helicopter crash really happened (but way later than represented in the show), you can find the original footage on YouTube.
