Well, tbf, even though he was the "hero" for this story, he's only really a "good guy" when compared to the other gangsters. It's not really surprising that someone attracted to living an organized crime lifestyle isn't really going to be the best type of person generally.

The interviews that Howard Stern did with Henry Hill were awesome. Henry was a despicable and tragic person. He was drunk or high for most of them.

I've seen this movie approximately a billion times and it never ever gets old!
What made it so funny this time is that I'd forgotten that I have the version of HBOMax with ads. I synced it up, then had to take a few work calls, then came back, and didn't realize the sync was a few minutes off.
Long story short, TBR and Samantha were in the wedding scene and I was in the pistol-whipping scene. I couldn't figure out why you were smiling so much while some guy was being brutally beaten!

So uncomfortable! We were so scared Tommy was going to absolutely lose his shit! Oh man, I hadn't thought about that with Tommy, but that is so much worse! He was in a pure panic before he died!

Really enjoyed this reaction. Would love to see you guys do The Departed or Wolf of Wall Street sometime. The Sopranos too for that matter.

It's always cool to see somebody take this movie in for the first time, it's a fascinating world they portray. So well done that I always forgot Henry was a racist, womanizing piece of shit lol. Like everybody else I recommend Casino and any of his other movies (Casino is the most similar to Goodfellas). I don't see The Aviator being suggested too much, that one is so underrated.
Also if you're curious at all, being made is basically the first step in being in a family (you start as a "soldier"), not necessarily being a boss. Tommy would've been like a boss to Jimmy and Henry cause they're not 100% Italian so they would forever just be what they call associates. But for made guys, after their ceremony, their devotion to "la cosa nostra" was even more important than their children.

All great recommendations, especially the first six on your list. And that commentary is definitely worth listening to for anyone who liked the film.

One of the best films ever made in my personal honest opinion. Forget it being a mob movie. Just as a cinematic work of art. The stars were aligned and the cinema gods smiling down on Scorsese's career during this time. This is highly engaging masterpiece firing on all cylinders.
If you guys ever have the chance to, I highly recommend watching the Blu-ray with the commentary track with the real Henry Hill & the real Federal Prosecutor (who plays himself during the scene where he talks to Henry and Karen about going into Witness Protection). Tommy's mother was none other than Martin Scorsese's mother Catherine Scorsese. And the man on the phone with Jimmy telling him the bad news that Tommy was killed, was none other than Scorsese's father, Charles. He also appears in the movie here and there. You'd recognize him as the man putting pieces of meat in the sauce while dinner is prepared while the guys are in prison.
Of course the movie took liberties. That comes with adapting real story into a fictional movie. Gotta take liberties. However based on the words of the real Henry and Karen and Federal Prosecutor, there were quite a few moments and scenes that were how it was shown in the movie.
Hearing the real Henry speak during the commentary track was eye opening and so captivating to listen to! The voice-over was taken from the narrative of the book taken directly from Henry as he recalled his life.
I Really Hope You Guys React To More Martin Scorsese Films! He is my top favorite filmmaker of all time! I truly hope you guys react to at least a few more of his films listed here below! They are amazing!
* Casino
* Taxi Driver
* Mean Streets
* Raging Bull
* The King Of Comedy
* Cape Fear
* Gangs Of New York
* The Aviator
* Shutter Island
* The Departed
* The Wolf Of Wall Street
* Hugo
* Silence

Goodfellas is one of the few films that never gets old for me. I second others recommendation of Scorsese's Casino, another good one with DeNiro and Pesce. Also, any Al Pacino film: Scarface, Dog Day Afternoon, Carlito's Way, And Justice For All, The Godafther Saga, etc. etc. Pacino is the all time greatest actor with DeNiro (Taxi Driver, King Of Comedy, Raging Bull, etc.) coming in as a close second. Between the two of them, they've made some of the greatest movies ever.

To me the story is classic but the cinematography and the editing is what makes this movie legendary.

The real Henry Hill would show up on the Howard Stern show fairly often in his later years. He was often drunk out of his mind too during these appearances. You could tell he had a fair amount of guilt for the murders he had committed in his life. It was pretty sad to see.

That's all too true. I've seen others doing similar videos where they're silent during silent parts of the movie yet they talk incessantly over dialogue. That always makes me wonder why anyone would support channels like that. Just one reason why I enjoy it here.

If you want to continue into the gangster genre, may I suggest my other favorites?
"Scarface" (1983)
"Casino" (1995)
"The Untouchables" (1987)
"The Departed" (2006)
"Black Mass" (2015)
"The Godfather" (1972)
"American Gangster" (2007)
"Miller's Crossing" (1990)
"Road To Perdition" (2002)
"Casino", "Black Mass", "The Untouchables", and "American Gangster" are based on true stories about real-life gangsters.

One of my favourite things in life is watching people's smiles slowly disappear during Tommy's "What do you mean I'm funny?" speech, when they're watching the film for the first time. Jesus that's an uncomfortable scene.
Fun fact, that speech wasn't in the original script. It was suggested by Joe Pesci, and Scorsese loved it (obviously) so they added the scene.
Finally, something that really stuck with me about Tommy's death was how the killers waited J-U-S-T long enough for Tommy to recognize what's going on ("Oh n-") before killing him. Damn that's cold.

Have you guys watched The Sopranos? Many Goodfellas alums are in that show. Not to mention it's one of the great shows of the last 25 years. And yes, Scorsese is one of the giants of 20th century film directors. In my opinion, his top three films are 1. Taxi Driver 2. Raging Bull and Goodfellas. Many film directors would kill for films like Mean Streets, Casino and King of Comedy to not be among their top three films.

I was so excited for this. Definitely one of my all-time favorites, and before Amazon Prime I would watch it every time it came on TV (heavily edited, of course, lol).
Interesting tidbit—when this came out in 1990 it had the most profanity of any movie in history, but now it’s #15. Most of it was delivered by Joe Pesci and was unscripted. 😆
Jimmy Conway died in ‘96 and I remember hearing about it.

Still one of the best movies I've ever seen. The most perfect casting of actors. The dialogue, the attention to detail, Scorsese's direction, the real life story being told fairly accurately, the pacing. Its all so top-notch.
I always loved how the man that Joe Pesci is portraying, in real life was a really large, intimidating looking guy, and Pesci is so short. He was chosen because A. He's a great actor and very believable, but also his way of speaking is intimidating itself, and he really played up the psychotic, ticking time bomb character to make up for the lack of physical stature 😂. Love it! "How am I funny? Am I a clown? Do I amuse you?"

Love the fact that you guys are really focused on the dialogue and don't talk all over it. There are definitely some reactors who love the sound of their own voice and talk a lot and miss out on important details. Looking forward to the Godfather films. You should definitely also check out Casino, another Scorsese film with De Niro and Pesci. You could say it's the spiritual sequel to Goodfellas.
