Apocalypse Now (1979) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Kurts wants men that are able to fight and kill without passion, hate or love. The ability to remove those emotions and conduct war and should be the way to do it. Kurts was tired of all the hypocrisy in the war. Kilgore fought and did things only in for the sake of surfing or in other words to forget the horrors of war and it had a opposite effect on his men captain Willard and says it the best way possible "the more they tried to make it like home, the more it made everybody miss it" the enemy NVA and VC only had one way home death or victory, the US wasn't conducting war the way it should because theirs nothing cute about war but it must be done will 100% intentions and no distractions or disillusions. Apocalypse Now is a giant metaphor and its themes run deep. It is by far in my eyes it is the best war film

Hearts of Darkness is also on Amazon Prime and as a special feature on many of the Apocalypse Now BluRay sets. It's definitely worth a watch for anyone who liked Apocalypse Now or who just enjoys great documentaries on making movies.

Also, Colby (the previous assassin sent by the Army that joined forces with Kurtz) is Scott Glenn aka Jack Crawford, Clarice's boss in Silence of the Lambs.

Yay for Platoon! :D Thanks for letting me know!

I think exhausting is the perfect way to describe it! It really takes it out of you, but in the best way. Platoon is coming later this month! Oh wow! It sounds like that was just one of many things that went south during filming. That scene definitely felt so authentic, so that makes sense! -Sam

I completely missed him! We'll have to catch him in our next watch. -Sam

We absolutely need to check it out! -Sam

Wow that's insane! It is always so insightful to hear from veterans on their take of these films. This movie was beautiful and so chaotic. -Sam

Solid reaction, guys! - Are you alright, Captain? - What's it look like? That line always kills me. The way he delivers it is so matter-of-factly: Obviously I'm not okay, you moron. I hadn't watched this in years and, to be honest, I kind of forgot how great it was (I think it was the redux I saw most recently, and I thought that was awful.) But oh my god this movie is exhausting. I feel like I've run a marathon by the time it's done. - Do you know who's in command here? - Yeah! Describing the film as pure madness seems about right to me. It'd be quite a task to pick the most insane thing in the film. The playboy bunnies scene always kind of sticks out to me... but there's so many... Y'all need to do Platoon next. It was made by Oliver Stone, who actually served in Vietnam, so you get another very interesting perspective in that one. edit: Fun piece of trivia. Martin Sheen really was drunk in that initial hotel room scene (with the ceiling fan rotor blades.) It was unscripted. They just pointed the cameras at Sheen and let him go. He punched that mirror for real. It's not fake blood. He was an alcoholic at the time and working through some serious shit. Later on in the production he would suffer a heart attack as well :S

Did you notice one of the little bird pilots was the drill sgt from Full Metal Jacket?

Thank you for this, TBR and Sam. 馃榿馃憤 I suggest watching the documentary ("Heart of Darkness") on the making of Apocalypse Now with footage shot by Coppola's wife on location.

When a film gets a status like Apocalypse Now it just doesn't become a masterpiece it becomes legendary. This film is legendary because of the path to make this film is so incredible the story itself is almost unbelievable. My father was in Vietnam and he said this is it, this is the movie that shows you how crazy Vietnam was.

"My movie is not about Vietnam... my movie is Vietnam." - Francis Ford Coppola... One of my all time favorite movie. The madness that is war. If you want to know more about this movie, I would highly recommend the making of documentary called "Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse" Filmed by Eleanor Coppola (Francis Ford Coppola Wife.) So many things went wrong. Millions over budget, Took years to film. Started filming in 1977 didn't finish till 1979. From typhoons whipping out sets. To Martin Sheen suffering a heart attack, To a actual war going on in the Philippines hindering production. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. Yet the movie turned out as a masterpiece. No CGI, No special effects, No Hollywood sets, A movie that could never be made again.
