Also recommend Red Dragon. Great prequel showcasing more of Hopkins as this character IMO.

I'm glad someone said this, I've had people argue with me that Manhunter is superior to Red Dragon... Not buying it, sorry not sorry

Sarah

I see you guys did Manhunter too but not Red Dragon or Hannibal? Manhunter is garbage compared to Red Dragon. Thank goodness a good Director and a good set of actors came along and fixed Thomas Harris’s amazing work by doing red dragon. Having Manhunter be the only interpretation on screen would’ve been a crime. Edward Norton is incredible in red dragon. Not to mention, Anthony Hopkins, Harvey, Keitel, and everyone else.

My other favourite Jonathan Demme movie is The Manchurian Candidate with Denzel. Great thriller/mystery.

Fun fact: SotL is the third and last movie to have won The Big Five: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay Oscars.

Actually, we did get a season 3 but you're right about everything else. Would love to get a season 4 and am surprised someone like Netflix hasn't bought the rights to finish the series like they did with The Killing after AMC canceled it.

Fun fact: Anthony Hopkins used HAL9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey as his inspiration for Hannibal's voice. That's why it's so monotonic and calm and unnerving.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Ted Levine's turn as Buffalo Bill also served as inspiration for one of my favourite 5 Second Films: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7V7zLrlX-T0

Great reaction. This movie really hits hard because you can easily believe this kind of thing could happen. Makes it more horrifying. There are prequels, a sequel and series. I’m a fan of the Hannibal series but it has a different feel than this movie. Very surreal (which is my jam). You’ll get a divided response on the prequels and sequel. Naturally, the best way to go is to read the books. Manhunter (1986) and it’s reboot Red Dragon (2002) are the story of Jack Crawford (before Clarice). I prefer the 1986 version but it doesn’t have Anthony Hopkins like the 2002 version. Hannibal (2001). I like the sequel as a book but not so much as a movie. Hannibal Rising (2007) was just ok. I’m interested to see the Clarice series but I’m keeping my expectations low.

Great reaction! Thank you!

Since you guys liked Silence, I'd like to second the recommendation to watch the Hannibal TV show. It's quite good with Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal.

Also, if you're interested in stories in the same vein, I'd also like to recommend Netflix's Mindhunter which revolves around the birth of the Behavioral Science Unit (the unit that Clarice wanted to join). The difference is that this show deals with real-life serial killers. The only downside to this show is that we're unlikely to get a Season 3. The show was expensive to produce and didn't get a many viewers. Also, David Fincher (showrunner and director of many of the episodes) told Netflix that he was exhausted from season 2 working 90-hr weeks! If S3 happens, it probably won't happen for at least another 5 years.

Finally, this is one of my favorite movie trailers: The Silence of the Lambs as a Romantic Comedy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCoTiU0S85Y

If you guys like the Hannibal Lecter character, you should check out the TV series Hannibal.

Ted Levine, the guy who played Buffalo Bill, was so fucking good in this. God damn was he creepy. This was a great reaction, guys. Some talking over the dialogue was a bit frustrating, but overall it was great to see this one again with ya. I'm not sure how, but the cinematography never really registered with me the first time. You're right, it's quite unique. I really enjoyed taking note of it this time. Finally: "Come onnn, just fucking shoot him!" Lol, TBR, if you were an FBI agent, you'd end up in jail real fast! ;)

Thank you for reacting to this chilling unbelievable movie. Glad you thought it was as chilling as I did when I first saw it.

Jodie Foster is an amazing actress and though I think this is her best work, she got nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the 1988 Thriller, The Accused. It deals with the topic of rape. If you are ok with that, love to see you add The Accused to the monthly thriller list to vote on.
