What does WBD split mean for AEW?
Added 2025-06-09 22:18:42 +0000 UTCWarner Bros Discovery is set to split their company in two.
On June 9th, Warner Bros Discovery announced that they would be splitting the company in two, with one side focusing on the companiest studio productions and streaming services, headed by Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav, while the other will focus on the companies global television networks and will be headed by CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels.
From David Zaslav:
“By operating as two distinct and optimized companies in the future, we are empowering these iconic brands with the sharper focus and strategic flexibility they need to compete most effectively in today’s evolving media landscape."
WHAT IT MEANS FOR AEW:
Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp reached out to WBD spokesmen, who said that right now details are few and far between, but that the split doesn't take effect until mid-next year.
Sources close to the situation reiterated that AEW has contracts in place, and that as of now there are no changes planned and that AEW is still a big focus for WBD. As of now, there don't look to be any AEW changes associated with this and are not risk of a tv deal just evaporating.
To make it clear, the "60-80k on Max" quote was absolutely made up.

The people who can't figure out text messaging is a demographic that will never increase and will soon gradually decrease dramatically.

2025-06-09 23:51:51 +0000 UTCAt some point, cable TV is going to be a bargain deal. Streaming will get too expensive and too fragmented (and too hard for those who can hardly figure out how to text message) where cable will be the way for growth for many brands who want to increase access. I may be wrong, maybe wishful thinking, but if you look at how frustrated sports fans are getting having their content across 5 platforms spending much more they were for cable, it has an appeal.
