Industry Reactions To WrestleMania 42 Being Moved, UPDATED INFO
Added 2025-05-22 18:38:46 +0000 UTCWrestlenomics dropped a shocking report, revealing that WrestleMania 42 would no longer be in New Orleans. WWE confirmed the news to Fightful, clarifying that it's part of a larger deal that will bring WrestleMania to the city in a future reveal. Now, Fightul Select has learned of many reactions throughout the industry.
Upon hearing the news, many WWE employees, staff and talent were shocked. One talent noted that they were surprised to see this past year's WrestleMania announced so late, with it being early May 2024. Now, with next year's not being announced officially as of yet, this puts it at one of the latest announcements for Mania in recent memory.
Talent that we spoke to are largely unfazed, as WWE generally handles the planning and travel for those weeks and weekends anyway. Several of the talent that we heard from said that they hadn't even begun to think about next year's WrestleMania, and haven't heard where it will be yet.
We're told this regime has been much more apt to waiting to announce any number of shows, and are open to changes if the revenue generated is a significant increase.
There was immediate frustration within the industry. A number of sources indicated that Wrestlecon had already signed their venue contract for New Orleans. We haven't been told of any other promoters that had already signed deals, but it has been normal practice to start negotiating for venues almost a full year ahead. There was immediate posturing from a number of companies to find out where next year's WrestleMania would be moved to.
We're working to find out more and will likely update this article.
UPDATE: NOLA News is claiming that WrestleMania 42 is headed to Las Vegas. Shortly before 3 PM ET, someone formerly connected to WWE had intimated the same to Fightful.
Those we are speaking to are expecting a date change. The early word we'd got was that no Las Vegas deal was finalized, but they were closing in on Allegiant Stadium for April 18-19.

That's a good idea for AEW to run a Dynamite and Collision there that week

2025-05-23 05:35:23 +0000 UTCDid Vegas swoop in with the giant offer? Or did they bitch because the economic impact was only a fraction of its potential cuz the morons at tko thought running Mania on Easter was a good choice..

2025-05-23 04:28:29 +0000 UTCIt was a very stupid decision, I'll never understand why they did it, especially with Easter being so late this year too, they never do Mania that late..

2025-05-23 04:27:19 +0000 UTCI didn't even think about the rest of the area it affects. Shit. That hurts.

2025-05-23 04:25:28 +0000 UTCPersonally I think WWE screwed up massively by booking WM over Easter weekend. It made no sense and pissed off many people, yet no one mentioned it, anywhere.

2025-05-22 22:50:47 +0000 UTCThey hadn't went on sale but regardless WM will sell based on name alone

2025-05-22 22:00:05 +0000 UTCIt had to be a really significant amount for them to change the location. Sucks for the smaller companies and fans that mad their plans already.

2025-05-22 21:43:23 +0000 UTCVegas again??? That'd be odd. Maybe NOLA news mixing up with 41.

2025-05-22 21:29:23 +0000 UTCJust thinking out loud, but what if TKO saw the revenue from all those events they ran mania weekend and decided to run it back lmao

2025-05-22 21:29:06 +0000 UTCAEW MUST book there that week. Especially if its Saudi or London. The Indie scene alone would be very appreciative of a major AEW event still drawing people to the city like Mania week does.

2025-05-22 20:39:41 +0000 UTCIf I'm AEW, I run a big event that weekend now in New Orleans.

2025-05-22 20:27:56 +0000 UTCI just read an article and it says an insider said that company officials are thinking about running Vegas back but being from Louisiana it's very disappointing.

2025-05-22 19:36:32 +0000 UTCHonestly AEW should just take up the lost venue and earn some goodwill with the indie scene. Keep up the WrestleMania week indie stuff, even when WWE couldn't be bothered.

2025-05-22 19:33:59 +0000 UTCWhy does everyone think it's Saudi when that's where the rumble is going to be.

2025-05-22 19:23:33 +0000 UTCThey should give it back to Minnesota but they whine because it's too cold.

2025-05-22 18:52:50 +0000 UTCIf Mania shifts dates then AEW should run a PPV in New Orleans to grab the WrestleCon and indie shows and make an event of it

2025-05-22 18:44:18 +0000 UTCI can imagine the indy promoters scrambling if they booked their venues this ahead of time.

2025-05-22 18:43:28 +0000 UTCI am disappointed for sure. This is the first WM that was in driving distance and I’d already locked down plans. Small things to complain about, but damn.
