Mariah May-WWE-AEW Update

Mariah May is in a contract year, and those around the wrestling world are expecting her to get paid.

Fightful Select had recently reported that May is in her contract year, and expected to get interest from virtually anywhere she could want to go. Wrestling Observer had noted that people close to her believe WWE has always been the goal, and people in AEW expected her to go to WWE. While there are some that believe that, Fightful has spoken to sources since the start of this being reported who claim she’s being wise and maximizing her leverage and negotiating power.

AEW absolutely hopes to retain Mariah May, from what Fightful Select has been told throughout the entire process. We’ve not heard of her being at any AEW shows since Revolution.

There was some misinformation spread upon Fightful learning the news, claiming that Mariah to WWE was already something in the works, or effectively a done deal. There were even people inquiring to Fightful about an “internal incoming” list she was on. That list doesn’t exist, and Mariah May is not listed internally for anything as it relates to WWE. The company has an internal roster page that Jeff Cobb has been on for a month, but he’s been without contract during that period. May has a number of months left on her deal, at least.

The biggest surprise among those that we spoke with was the possibility that Mariah May was only on a deal of this length.

Fightful reached out to Mariah May and her management upon the original story, but they didn’t comment.

Just to elaborate, Mariah May was already signed to AEW in August 2023, even though she didn't appear until later in the year.

Does the bit about her asking for her release have any merit or just hyperbole that isn’t true?

Does this personally affect your ability to provide for your family or something? "People shouldn't bet on themselves and work towards their goals" is an extremely wild take.

If she leaves that will suck and I will miss watching her wrestle as I do not watch or follow WWE or their talent. Building the house you are in not the one next door, if WWE is your goal don’t take a spot from someone who wants to be in AEW just go to WWE in the first place.

Ya know it’s one thing to see weird comments on public forums like reddit or X, but it’s a whole other thing to see weird comments on a paid subscription tier. At least Fightful’s making some money out of it

I would love to see her stay but understand why she would leave. I just don’t know where she would fit in. WWE is kind of maxed out on beautiful, blonde women and already have a bunch they don’t use (Maxine, Alexa, Natalia). They have even more in the pipeline at NXT. Jade got a lot of attention but has been underwhelming (in my opinion). Penta and Rey are being given the star treatment though so you can’t say they bury AEW talent that comes over.

Sounds like a you problem. Wrestlers are allowed to go to any promotion they want when their contracts are done. Regardless of what company made them famous. Just like how you have free will to change jobs…if you even have a job

I'm getting really irritated with all these wrestlers that AEW is making into starts and then going to WWE. I have zero respect for them. I haven't watched a single Cody match after he left AEW, a I won't every watch him again unless it's back in AEW.

I just hope she's happy wherever she goes. It's just great that wrestlers have options vs WWE or indies. Heck even if this is all just to get more money from either side, that's good as well.
