Details, Reactions Behind TNA Firing Gail Kim
Added 2025-03-26 15:00:17 +0000 UTCIn a shocking move, TNA fired Gail Kim, Ariel Shnerner and others.
Over a dozen TNA talent reached out to Fightful regarding the news of Gail Kim's firing, which was met with shock, disbelief, and anger. It was a unanimously unpopular move based on those we spoke to, with at least one talent said that it made the decision for them to not remain in the company when their deal was up. There were others that told Fightful they were scared for their jobs.
At least one person said they actually weren't surprised, because Gail Kim has been very outspoken creatively, and would sometimes butt heads with people in control. Another person indicated that, but said "that's what you want out of a person in her position. Someone who will advocate for a better show." We're told that Kim was very direct about her complaints when she felt like things could have been handled better or more professionally. Gail Kim was not involved in creative, and had been pushing heavily for the Knockouts division to do more after the departure of Scott D'Amore.
In all, the reaction to Gail Kim's firing ended up being more unanimously negative than the Scott D'Amore decision last year, even. As negative as talent were publicly, it was even worse privately.
Sources in AEW and WWE both said they expected Gail Kim to get interest across the wrestling world, and a few said they were going to immediately push for such. We're told that Gail Kim does plan to continue in wrestling.
One longtime name in TNA said that they believe Anthem is going for a major regime shift with the departures of Scott D'Amore, Gail Kim and Josh Mathews, names that had been around for ages. They pointed to the revolving door of TNA Presidents and the differing visions between them. Those that we spoke to claim the decision was TNA President Carlos Silva's, and he told Gail Kim she was fired, but didn't provide a reason besides "changes." There was immediately heat in his direction for the decisions.
Tommy Dreamer was moved to a talent relations role, to help full the void Gail Kim left behind there. Hunter Johnston, aka Delirious will head creative. Tommy Dreamer will stay on the creative end as well.
Even outside of TNA, the firing of Gail Kim was met with a lot of shock and disbelief, with personalities from the industry trying to learn why it happened. A number of them told us they reached out to her directly and that Kim seemed "determined."
Gail Kim has no non compete and can appear for any wrestling company she wants or work wherever immediately.

I've been watching TNA for most of that time, dude.

2025-03-27 02:27:09 +0000 UTCHere we go with the "tna is over" stuff. Sorry, it ain't happening.

2025-03-27 02:10:41 +0000 UTCIt’s hard enough getting TV time for TBS and Women’s titles. I don’t want tag titles muddling things. Having Kim there to help with the younger women’s talent would be great though.

2025-03-26 18:58:10 +0000 UTCThe day before this I just showed my wife the 2007 inaugural Knockout championship match, and Gail’s match with Awesome Kong in 2007. Absolutely heartbreaking news, but I believe for someone with Gail’s talent and work-ethic it will be a blessing in disguise long term. No doubt something bigger and better is waiting on her, and hopefully everyone else caught up in this.

2025-03-26 18:07:38 +0000 UTCI paid attention off/on the few years before they started working with the Fed and won't come back, has it been bad for awhile?

2025-03-26 18:05:00 +0000 UTCWWE needs a boost to main roster womens creative. She would be an incredible hire. WWE isnt lacking for talent, they just need better storylines.

2025-03-26 17:59:26 +0000 UTCcontinues to this day? huh?

2025-03-26 17:33:14 +0000 UTCCool, I'm sure she's said that, doesn't mean WWE doesn't have a history of horrible behavior that continues to this day, So, they don't get the benefit of the doubt. Again, new and old boss ain't so different.

2025-03-26 17:16:29 +0000 UTCGail has a lot more respect for Triple H than Vince. There's a bunch of articles on Gail's thoughts of Triple H.

2025-03-26 17:00:27 +0000 UTCAnd he the angle wasn't to dunk on AEW?. Dude learned from VKM, he was his right hand man, VKM worked with Bret Hart again, no?

2025-03-26 16:34:14 +0000 UTCAgain, old boss and new boss ain't so different. Who you think Trips learned from?

2025-03-26 16:32:59 +0000 UTCThey're bringing in people with outside industry experience who no doubt didn't come cheap. Not what you do when you want a sale

2025-03-26 16:12:14 +0000 UTCAgreed that the women’s division has been on fire. The Toni/Mariah stuff alone is miles ahead of most stories. Bringing in Megan Bayne was huge too. I think Gail could be exactly the type of voice TK needs to hear to genuinely give the women more tv time and it would be completely justified.

2025-03-26 16:09:10 +0000 UTCVince was the one who disliked her.

2025-03-26 16:05:28 +0000 UTCPeople have been saying that for like 20 years now. And TNA always finds a way to survive.

2025-03-26 16:03:52 +0000 UTCAEW's women's division has been on fire since All In, but I think it'll be good for the long term

2025-03-26 16:03:49 +0000 UTCI don't the they need women's tag titles, just more time for women's feuds that are non title

2025-03-26 15:54:53 +0000 UTCHaving Delirious and Dreamer running the creative side of things is absolutely a choice.

2025-03-26 15:50:32 +0000 UTCH wanted CM Punk back even though they didn't like each other in the past. Even Gail seemed to get over the hate she had for WWE

2025-03-26 15:27:42 +0000 UTCShe'd be such an awesome pickup for the company.

2025-03-26 15:24:29 +0000 UTCGail Kim would be a major addition to AEW backatage. AEW is in a prime position to advance their women's division. Potentially add Women's Tag Team Titles. Having someone in the fold that's done it before would be perfect.
MarcustheGod
2025-03-26 15:23:47 +0000 UTCGail has been the MVP of TNA for many, many years. Honestly, these firings are it for me. Love the brand but idk if the WWE involvement can save it from feeling shallow imo.
Shannon Willis
2025-03-26 15:21:27 +0000 UTCSeems like they want their own people in there that aren't going to question what they do. I hope the women's division doesn't struggle because of it.
Scott George
2025-03-26 15:18:41 +0000 UTCI can’t imagine them letting Gail Kim go as part of that process. If anything they’d absorb her into their infrastructure in this new NXTNA partnership making the most sense in that direction or move her into being an agent on the main roster. Letting her go would be a wild condition to have or maybe a foolish part on TNA to have a slimmer expense line to appear more appealing during the acquisition process
Steven Neaves
2025-03-26 15:15:47 +0000 UTCNo. They could have fired her after
Fightful Select
2025-03-26 15:14:44 +0000 UTCThis isn't just a sinking ship. It's a sinking ship that's on fire so hot that the ocean won't put it out when it fully submerges.
CSDX
2025-03-26 15:14:00 +0000 UTCWWE be holding grudges so I'd be surprised if they didn't have anything to do with Gail's exit..the new and old boss ain't so different.
Andrew W Haro
2025-03-26 15:13:25 +0000 UTCIm sure she'd love to go back to a place that fired her twice
