Additional Details on frustrated women's talent in WWE

There has been some frustration within the women's ranks in WWE.

On Fightful Select's discord (access for subscribers here), we answered a question about that frustration, and were asked about it on this week's Hump, which you can check out at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB8rdcsg4EY

We were asked to expand on some of the frustrations from the women's division. It's important to note that it doesn't reflect the entirety of the division, but ones echoed by numerous talent.

Several women on the WWE roster spoke with Fightful and noted the lack of focus on developing contenders, the tag team division, and screen time for women outside of the top of the division. This was said to be specifically in comparison to NXT, where main roster women's talent have noticed how much screen time and focus those talent get and how emotional investment follows.

There was also a point of redundant storylines, with the same talent not only being featured at the top of the card, but even in the mid-card title scene. Those that we spoke to were happy for those who get that screen time, and said that it shouldn't be a "they're getting too much time" conversation, it should be a "give other people more time in addition to them" conversations.

Those that Fightful spoke with pointed to Sonya Deville effectively being cut while negotiating a new deal as something that didn't instill confidence when they aren't being used by the company. We're told that Sonya Deville had been told as recently as four days prior that the company was looking to keep her.

Several who have inquired about creative plans were told that their time would be coming and asked to be patient.

Unfortunately this is how business is conducted in the corporate world. I had my boss reassure my crying wife over the phone that my job was safe after she found out a bunch of people had been laid off from the company the night before and, not an hour later, he was telling me I had a meeting with HR in the admin building at 9:55a. Guess what happened? Fucker had the audacity to tell me "It's nothing personal, we just needed you to remain calm and continue working until it was time for your meeting."

"We're told that Sonya Deville had been told as recently as four days prior that the company was looking to keep her." First Trevor Lee is told his job is safe and then fired, then Dijak is told his job is secure and then his contract wasn't renewed, and now Sonya Deville was told that and then was let go? What the FUCK is going on in WWE?!

I think you downplay how hard it is to run 6 hours of weekly tv vs 2 hours

It has to be hard to juggle so much talent along with trying to have a build to WM at the same time. It is such a tempting option to just stick with what is working, but you risk locker room frustration and the product becoming stale.

Wrong, HBK has booked the women equally since he took over from Bruce in 2022

Marcos

NXT women are getting more time because the mens division sucks right now. WWE lady's suffer from Men's division having so many over guys.

Keith Kripke

Yes, one of my pet peeves about this subject, I’m all for better women’s booking but as fans need to hold creative and ourselves responsible and consistent, don’t be hypocrites and I see alot of them on twitter when they weren’t signing that under months ago

Said Amadu-Suka

Now I agree about the fans. You can’t complain and then we the ladies come out you sit there silently. I’ve been to shows and I’m literally the only one making noise for every woman that comes down the ramp.

Joshua Moore

Main roster way harder to get tv time, using nxt as a barometer is disingenuous because it’s missing context of that show as well, I agree the mid card belts needs to be improved, I like Chelsea but she’s not a serious wrestler that should be holding gold, need her to drop to someone who bring the title foward, also Lyra is good wrestler but is lacking personality, also it’s a two way street, the same fans complaining need to show support and make noise when their in the arena because that’s what they look at, don’t be online raging but when they get in tv, your dead for there matches, dead for there promo segments, the same ones were mad about Sonya was the same ones burying her in the PFC when they got tv time last year and fans didn’t give a fuck and said there matches were bad, we need to be consistent and not selective outrage for the week

Said Amadu-Suka

It makes no sense they they added all these women titles knowing the booking of the women is so awful. HHH's booking flaws are showing. The honeymoon phase is over. Shawn Michaels could probably do a way better job booking RAW and Smackdown than HHH

Alexander Fitzgerald

I mean you got 2 mid card titles and they’re fighting over spots for WM to go after the top 2 titles. That makes no sense to me. PFC could have ran up against BB/Naomi at least twice. I like Ivy Nile but she’s just in the background for Gable and crew. They really need to carve out some dedicated time for the women.

The women out perform the men in NXT a lot of times and this could be due to booking. The women on the main roster keep up with the men on the main roster and when given a chance, put on even better matches.

Joshua Moore

It’s a false equivalence, the men division isn’t good in nxt so they go with the women because there the better talent down there

Said Amadu-Suka

I don’t like the nxt comparison because the men’s division on that show is putrid and not developing in the pc at the rate the women are so it’s a false equivalence, it’s essentially a women show at this point and if that’s the comparison, one should consider an all women’s show with there belts and stars, opens a different dynamic but also has its challenges that people truly don’t wanna have that conversation

Said Amadu-Suka

I don’t believe that Shayna Bazler was even at RAW this week. She did not post her weekly TikTok abt catering.

Maria Farmer

I do appreciate that they're very clear on the issue being with the higher ups and aren't harboring resentment towards the women who are getting TV time. But yeah, it's really frustrating that this "new era" has quickly started to see a lot of the same old problems being reproduced.

Marq

I hope booking gets better for the women. NXT set the bar high and there’s no reason the women on the main roster shouldn’t get the same opportunities.
