AEW, Tony Khan happy with AEW Grand Slam after lead in
Added 2025-02-19 22:42:11 +0000 UTCAEW is happy with their Grand Slam performance.
AEW was the beneficiary of a big lead in on NBA All-Star weekend ahead of Grand Slam. In all, AEW averaged 500,000 viewers for the Grand Slam broadcast nearly three hours later than their usual time slot. Kenny Omega & Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita kicked off the show with over a million viewers from the lead in.
Those we spoke to at AEW Dynamite said that Tony Khan and others in the company were very happy with AEW's number, the lead in, and the positive buzz surrounding Grand Slam this weekend. Khan was also vocal about believing it was one of the better stretches of Collision that they've run.
We're told that AEW's performance after College Football earlier in the year was another time that the delay in time was offset by the strong lead in. Those in WBD we spoke to said that there are likely to be more situations like this if they believe the partnership can benefit from it. Tony Khan was said to have been a big proponent of utilizing the NBA All Star weekend lead in.
AEW viewership numbers on Max are not available.

Grand slam was amazing one of my favorite shows in a while, Roh global wars felt like a template that battle of the belts could have been. A handful of really cool matches in a fun setting that they should really try to do more of.

2025-02-20 00:48:32 +0000 UTCThe key was always going to be to give the lead-in viewers something they could get excited about and they did. I knew the lead-in would be good, but I wonder just how many watched Toni/Mariah because of the time. But to have a million see the four involved in the opening match is great given the quality of the match and of those involved.
