AEW Ring Discourse That Is A Thing For Some Reason

No, AEW did not forget to ship a ring over.

For some reason, the discourse on Twitter following AEW Grand Slam was that AEW didn't properly factor freight times properly for Brisbane and the company had to get loaned a ring. Well, as it turns out, bad faith grifter accounts usually lie, and this is another case of that.

AEW typically uses a 20x20 ring in the United States, and doesn't ship their rings overseas. There was no instance of forgetting the ring, not planning freight, or anything like that. The plan was to always use an 18x18 ring -- the same size used by TNA, and that was used by ROH, ECW, WCW and virtually every prominent indie company. Most AEW talent came up using an 18x18 ring.

WWE traditionally has their own rings that are stored overseas as opposed to having them shipped over. Whether or not the ring used on Grand Slam was the one they'd planned on renting, we don't know, but it was always planned to be an 18x18 ring. The ring aprons and everything else were scaled appropriately.

AEW has also used an 18x18 ring in the United States in the past, including for the Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa cage match.

And he was incorrect in saying that.

More on the optical illusion thought process: the area surrounding the ring was extra wide for Grand Slam, to the point that the wide shots made the ring look even smaller because we're used to seeing maybe 8' between the ring and the barricades and this time it was more like 12-14'. The announce desk might as well been in the audience as far away as it was LOL

Josh Howard

tribalism is a form of brain rot.

Insomnia Inc

I think it's just that we're more used to the larger ring so that when the smaller ring came up it just looked weird. Also, I think we got kind of an optical illusion from just coming off watching over 2 hours of a WWE PLE then tuning in to the AEW show that it just seemed that much smaller than it actually was.

Jeff Brown

This is a new low for the IWC. Triablism has completely ruined wrestling

Alexander Fitzgerald

This is where we suffer from media now becoming anyone with a computer. Even reputable Wrestling podcasts saying the ring size was because it was too hard, took too long to get a ring. Andrew Zarian's producer said he heard Kyle Fletcher had to call folks to get them the ring. He was representing Wrestling Observer radio and was talking out of his ass.

Lynchman

Buddy said it was 16x16

RoRo

This is how I know that AEW hit this show out of the park if people are resorting to this kind of stuff as the only thing they can pick at.

Kieran Buxton

Stop. Going. On. Twitter.

Andrew Bates

Its just a question? I liked the show and I like AEW it's just something that I was curious about

I payed Rhea Ripley to come step on me and all I got was Ryback in a Dress, 6 out of 10

This is a really silly thing I care about come on man do better.

Stalla

This is why I hate wrestling fans.

Stalla

I swear some of the weird shit people were saying about the ring was unhinged. Like this company worth hundreds of millions apparently couldn't afford a full-size ring and if proof they're in the mud and dying. Jesus.

Joe Donovan

Honestly, I prefer the larger 20'x20' but I didn't notice the downsize to 18'x18'

Stuart Beresford

Maybe the wrestlers just looked bigger in Australia, idk

Sheila Antonio

People looking through every nook and cranny for a click and a "LOLAEW" moment. I hate it so much. THEN, if you confront someone about it, they just eventually go back to Tony Khan and blame him for how he handled CM Punk. I swear I hate it.

Shannon Willis

Some people really need to touch grass. I don’t get the constant nitpicking. So lame

jxb

"Under Constant Attack"

David Majors

Fed had steel steps when they went to Perth but maybe, it just felt weird with how they shot around it or at least it seemed like they did

I payed Rhea Ripley to come step on me and all I got was Ryback in a Dress, 6 out of 10

This is what happens when weird tribalistic WWE fans have no holes to poke in the AEW product. They’ve been on fire for a long time now, so they resorted to fake stories about the ring lmao

Ryan

In the absence of anything negative they can say about the actual show the usual suspects reach for….this. Just embarrassing.

David C

Maybe that’s just a standard Australian stair?

Jose Balderas

good show overall by them albeit later in the night here in CA

David Amodt

The discourse surrounding this is just..........dumb.

Juan Ortiz

The people that loyally follow the grifters: This post won't stop me because I can't read.

CSDX

Thank you for clarifying the stupidest discourse I've ever seen. 🤣

Jules Mac

best 6 dollars in the business, baybay!

BugabooJonez

Lol at the title of this. Internet discourse around AEW can be so dumb at times.

Tucker

It’s because it was a good show and people had to find something to complain about

Steffon Manor

I rarely believe anything they say on twitter especially from the haters.

Chris Cobb

Man, let me just say. I hate the way 18x18 looks.

Jose Balderas

The haters are now making up shit. Why are they so pathetic. Can't we all just love wrestling?

Brian Kilroy

People nitpick everything. Who tf is watching going “THATS NOT A 20x20!!!!l

Woahshutitdown

What happened with the ring steps? Why wasn't it the standard "steel steps" and instead a little black nothing deal that they shot around?

I payed Rhea Ripley to come step on me and all I got was Ryback in a Dress, 6 out of 10

Anything on the bottom ring rope? Seemed like every match someone was getting stuck while rolling out
