Select Answers: WWE cameras, Royal Rumble, ROH

Welcome to Select Answers, a short feature that provides some of the answers to questions that were posed to Sean Ross Sapp in the most recent Fightful Weekly Q&A Podcast. The show drops every week on Fightful Select for subscribers.

Do you forsee WWE upgrading their cameras to 4k?

I'm not exactly an equipment wizard, but a lot of carriers don't reliably broadcast in 4K, so I doubt it.

Was Jey always the planned winner of the Rumble? What was the thought process behind him losing to Gunther a week before winning the Rumble?

I can't speak to the thought process, but Jey Uso had been planned to win the Royal Rumble for a while. He wasn't told about it until the day of and it was kept close to the vest.

Hey Sean! Any word on what’s going on with the RoH six man titles?

Marshall Von Erich had been sidelined with an injury. As much as I like Dustin Rhodes, there was no need to split the Trios titles, especially if you weren't going to do anything with either set. Just combine them again and make them the World Trios Titles.

I wouldn't say 4K is dying. It's just not feasible for broadcast television at this time. It's too niche to justify the cost and bandwidth requirements when most people are content with 1080p (or are the type who say they don't see a difference when you try to show off your 4K setup). Movies and videogames will continue to be the leaders in 4K content because those that have the capability to use that definition are actively seeking it out. But since cable/OTA signals are stuck in the 1080i/1080p resolution for the foreseeable future, there really isn't any point in investing in the necessary equipment and infrastructure when it's just going to be downgraded to a lesser resolution.

Damn, we're back to Select Opinions with that last answer lol! It's fair, though. Sad to see the odd death of 4K, it's a good advancement but, in the era of cost cutting the entire entertainment industry is going through, it was an inevitable one

4K is slowly being phased out, sadly. Even the Superbowl, the entire Euro 2024 and the Champions League final were not produced in 4K. 1080p HDR seems to be the new direction for live sports.

The only way I see them upgrading to 4k equipment is if Netflix requests it, or it's part of their contract with them. You can always downscale the broadcast from 4k if necessary
