WWE Talent Reactions To Def Rebel Themes

If you’re not a fan of Def Rebel, you’re not alone.

Numerous fans pointed out their frustration with the WWE music production group with the theme songs remaining unidentifiable for many talent during the Royal Rumble matches. A number of talent in WWE that Fightful have spoken to have felt the same way.

We’d indicated in the past that no talent that Fightful spoke with have interacted with Def Rebel producers for input on songs. Beyond that, we’re told by talent that several have expressed unhappiness with the quality of theme songs, and have made attempts to get their previous themes back.

WWE has also made requests to change a number of themes that the talent vehemently pushed back on. Some talent have managed to keep their previous themes, while others have not been so lucky.

Very few people on the roster that we’ve heard from are happy with the Def Rebel themes. A number of incoming talent also preferred to bring their own themes with them.

For those asking when the Def Rebel contract or agreement is up with WWE, we do not yet have that information.

Absolute biggest miss of the rumble was not having Finn return with his old CFO$ theme. He didn't use the JD music, why wouldn't they give him his theme back?!

It wouldn't supprise me to find out that Def Rebel aren't even wrestling fans and just don't get it. Like the majority of Def Rebels current WWE themes I don't even recall yet look at the iconic themes Jim Jonson did and I can litterally remember every one of them from 30 years ago.

Nick Mason

Look at who’s in charge of the company and ask yourself one question, do you think they have an understanding of current music outside of paying whatever rapper to appear to make them look cool

Richman

Do we know why talents haven't spoken to Def Rebels? Is it a WWE thing? Are they unable to communicate with them? As in they are forbidden? Because if I'm a wrestler I would do everything possible to try and reach out and not expect WWE to make me connect with them.

Unabashedly Reggie

What u wish we could hear, and this is through no fault of Fightful that we haven’t, is something from someone higher up in the company. Who is being stubborn in relying on them, regardless of contract. Sure, use them for new themes that are needed for now, but changing existing ones, especially good ones, makes no sense. Not to mention that it doesn’t seem like anyone actually cares about holding them accountable for bad work.

If Def Rebel was around in the 90s, WWF would have lost the war to WCW. The iconic themes are part of the show. For a company all about production & presentation, I don’t understand why they let Def Rebel continue with them. Buy out the contract if you have to.

iMikeZero

80/20 honestly

Elaquent

As a producer, those def rebel themes offend me lol

Elaquent

WWE should just give the talent a budget and say "here's $10,000 go find the theme you want. If we approve, we will pay the producer for the rights" I'm sure it works NOTHING like that, but might create some awesome new stuff?

Robbie Wray

The WWE had made a point to have excellent and memorable music for everyone from main eventers to low card guys for almost 40 years. Def Rebel is the first head of music that has failed at this. They must be replaced.

Cyrus Krapf-Altomare

hell no their treatment is perfectly fair. they fucking suck at the job

ky4n

Unless you're a member of the bloodline or Joshi, your theme is going to be 50/50 ass lol

A-Town Love-Under

Do they even know who they are making themes for or are they just making themes and WWE are allocating them? I bet they’re not even fans of WWE.

David Wikeley

I miss CFO$

Sorastro

It’s sort of fair but it’s also what’s expected of every music producer in the history of the business they knew that going in. And have missed the mark at every possible turn. I’m sure they’re nice people but their music is uninspired, boring, and repetitive. Best for both parties to start over.

Koby Long

So...this is a fair point. However...Mikey Rukus has the same responsibility in AEW. Dale Oliver had the same responsibility in TNA. Jim Johnston had that responsibility in WWE. The workload doesn't excuse uninspired work and mediocre product.

Ramon Atkins

Their new themes are just horrible

Clint Bond

Def Rebel is the worst thing WWE has going for them. They need someone like Jim Johnson or Mikey Rukus to do their themes

Dragmire

The music is awful. I could barely tell who was coming out at the rumble. Outside of a handful of songs they should trash all of them.

Woahshutitdown

It's blows my mind that with all the vast improvement WWE has made recently in terms of presentation, the entrance themes is still an issue.

Sheila Antonio

Is there no one within management that hears this issue? It feels like a crazy blind spot for them to have. The fans don’t like the themes, the talent doesn’t like the themes, so why isn’t there a fix? At a minimum, having talent meet with Def Rebel could help improve things.

nickmitch

Similar sounding themes, the catch phrases included... I'm surprised WWE for a lack of a better term is tone deaf about this Themes HELP a character get over. Cody and Jey as recent examples. Plus, Seth, Sami and multiple other examples. A simple glass break is all it took back in the day 😂

Scott Payne

Could you imagine doing your job and being universally disliked by your customers and their fans? Oof.

Michael Baldwin

DEAF rebel

Ricardo Name TBD

I think they get slightly unfair treatment, they have to make so much music all at once. But it’s undeniable that most of their stuff isn’t great.
