More on AEW Revolution, WWE-Staples Center, Upcoming AEW Dates
Added 2024-11-19 20:37:18 +0000 UTCAEW is headed back to Los Angeles, but not where they’ve been previously.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp had confirmed with AEW sources as well as those close to the former Staples Center in LA that the company was set to appear in the arena in Q1 2024. Today, AEW confirmed that they will be at the Crypto.com arena on March 9 for AEW Revolution. It will be the first time the company has run the venue
Previously, AEW has run events at the Kia Forum, and this will be their first event at the Staples Center. Those close to the situation say that the venue had an exclusivity agreement with WWE, but that WWE has opted to go with Intuit Dome for Raw on Netflix.
There was at least one source at the venue that Fightful spoke with that said that it rubbed them the wrong way that WWE switched venues, and were happy that AEW quickly announced their PPV after WWE's Intuit Dome announcement for WWE Raw. One longtime Staples/Crypto Arena source pointed to a situation 15 years ago when they allowed WWE to book the arena on days notice when Pepsi Arena in Denver asked WWE to move due to a playoff game.
The AEW Revolution-Staples Center show has been on the books for well over a month.
AEW also announced a three-night Hammerstein Ballroom stay for ROH, Collision and Dynamite. They'll be filming the week before Christmas so that talent and staff won't need to travel the week of Christmas.
The company is also running a number of more intimate venues in the new year. For example, AEW previously ran the very large Yum Center in Louisville. The Yum Center is a near-NBA sized venue, while Broadbent is scaled much smaller, about a third of the seating. They're also moving from the home of the Phoenix Suns, the Footprint Center, to the much more intimate Arizona Financial Theatre.
Not all cities are seeing this change, however.
The company is also running a new venue in Oceanside, California at Frontwave Arena. They're hitting Knoxville for the first time in the Knoxville Coliseum, and Clarksville, TN, which just hosted an NXT PLE this year. So the company is going to a number of new venues.
Of note is that after December 21, there are only three Saturday Collision tapings through March 12. There's one Thursday edition, and it will be taped with Dynamite four times. This is able to happen more as Rampage is now effectively off of the company's TV filming slate.

Ah, this makes sense. Didn't know that Grandslam would be in Australia. Thank you for the clarification!

2024-11-21 17:44:12 +0000 UTCWhy is AEW running Austin on a Tuesday?

2024-11-21 00:30:25 +0000 UTCI'm assuming they will present the Phoenix show similar to how they did the Daily's Place shows during the pandemic since that's also a theater configuration. Most likely the ring on the floor, stage directly behind the ring, and cameras directly in front of the ring. I'm excited to see unique setups. I don't care about the size of the crowd so much as how they're presented and how well they can be heard on the broadcast. Several thousand screaming fans can sound just as loud as any sold out WWE show and can look just as good if filled correctly.

2024-11-20 16:19:21 +0000 UTCI'm excited to see how this goes. Curious how the camera angles look too. It'll certainly be different, hope it comes off awesome on TV.

2024-11-20 00:44:30 +0000 UTCI like the idea, but even Florida can get chilly at night in December. As I recall, Daily is outdoors.

2024-11-19 23:45:17 +0000 UTCI wish you quoted the part where I said they wanted to book Crypto. I said they had OTHER options apart from the Forum. Crypto was obviously WWE territory and what we’ve come to know is that they hate allowing rivals to even promote shows in shared venues. I had no doubt that WWE was exclusive to Crypto and never expected AEW to have a show there. I think Khan understands working relationships and my comment was theorizing that he used the Forum to court a possible Intuit Dome date. But it didn’t happen 🤷🏻♂️ Now, please show me where I said that AEW should’ve booked Crypto during the WWE use of it.

2024-11-19 23:39:09 +0000 UTCHow you gonna comment on an article you didn't even read, because clearly you didn't read it because it clearly says in this article that WWE had an exclusivity agreement with Crypto.com Arena, that's why AEW always booked The Forum. Try reading before you comment

2024-11-19 22:14:19 +0000 UTCLoving the changes so far. The smaller more unique venues is something fans have been wanting AEW to do for awhile. At least run those smaller venues until it's a demand again to do arenas. 2025 should be a good start of the year for AEW hopefully they keep improving on things

2024-11-19 22:11:53 +0000 UTCVery curious how the presentation changes at some of these venues, specifically the Phoenix show. Also somewhat surprised AEW didn't pick Jacksonville for the New Year's Show at Daily Place.

2024-11-19 22:02:36 +0000 UTCI suffered through Wrestlemania 2000 and Rumble ‘99 in those seats. Kids are soft these days. 😉

2024-11-19 21:39:00 +0000 UTCAs someone who went to Raw at the Honda Center just this year, please no. Those seats are not comfortable in the slightest. I agree that San Diego needs some love though.

2024-11-19 21:34:56 +0000 UTCCan’t help but feel that AEW kept using the Forum to try and foster a relationship with Ballmer for Intuit but somehow fell apart or WWE just made more sense to them. There was no reason to keep running The Forum when they could have also used Honda Center/San Diego/college venues.

2024-11-19 21:13:36 +0000 UTCNot gonna lie, the setup at the Arizona Financial Theatre is good for smaller Wrestling shows. I went to two NXT house shows at the venue and both were raucous and fun to attend. I honestly can't wait to see how it turns out (hoping to go as well lol)

2024-11-19 20:52:53 +0000 UTCRunning smaller venues is probably a good idea. Running new towns is a great plan, too.
