Reactions To Stephanie Vaquer Leaving CMLL, Joining WWE Following NXT Debut

Stephanie Vaquer headed to WWE immediately after working AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, and we’ve been able to get some reactions within the industry following her NXT in-ring debut.

Those that we’ve spoken to around the Mexican wrestling scene are of the belief that Vaquer will not need to return to the scene, and exited accordingly. Sources in AEW did say that she made a good impression with her Mercedes feud, but they could tell shortly after Forbidden Door that WWE had reached out and that she would eventually head to the company, though how quickly it came together surprised many.

Sources in AEW said that they understood the element of WWE wanting a great talent that they were also after, but didn’t quite understand the element of pulling her from CMLL dates before she could drop a title that she needed to drop. However, when she was quickly turned around and wrestled on the WWE Mexico shows, that alleviated some of the criticism, compared to her simply being signed and pulled off of shows.

Thus far, WWE have appeared to be very happy with Vaquer, and she appears to be enjoying her time there.

NJPW and AEW sources believe that it’s likely that talent that work Forbidden Door or co-promoted AEW shows in the future would have to make an agreement to not immediately go to WWE, likely just under that theyre under contract as opposed to a separate agreement. That has not been confirmed within the company.

Im assuming this means if any talent not under an AEW or NJPW contract will need to sign a non compete which be in effect for a few months after forbidden door?

Stephen Bradley

Yes they did otherwise she wouldn't have gotten a tryout in 2018

Stephanie was going to WWE with or without the Mercedes match. Mercedes in AEW hasn't been lighting the world on fire and you say she's having "banger after banger" then why do they refuse to mention All In? WWE has been interested Stephanie Vaquer for years she even got a WWE tryout in 2018

Jeffrey Pollard

WWE had looked at her several times. She also had an in-person interview with them all the way back in 2018 when Regal ran scouting. They were very aware of who she was. Plus she had recently just put on a pretty good match with Giulia. That wasn't even the first match between her and Mercedes.

Tony had no contractual rights to SV. He didn’t let WWE have her. She wanted to be there and contrary to what the IWC claims, WWE didn’t learn about Stephanie from watching that PPV.

Everyone shits on Mercedes but shes putting on banger after banger and if it werent for their match Stephanie (who is amazing and deserved it) wouldnt have gotten looked at

ARose Lab

It was a joke calm down lol

Joe

He let Regal out of his contract. But I get it, He should just let WWE have whoever and do whatever they want.

David Majors

There is no "but still", people that aren't ready often are rejected until they are ready. Especially in highly sought positions.

Keith Robinson

Worse than that: they knew who she was. And outright rejected her years before. Now granted, she improved leaps and bounds since her original tryout but still.

MrDoubleOmeg

Crazy how wwe signed her right after her match at forbidden door. And before that had no idea who she was.

Charles Lee Ray

That last paragraph

Joe

Huh

Charles Lee Ray

They should have set up that agreement in the first place. You can’t count on the goodwill of a competitor like WWE

MrDoubleOmeg

TK trembles in fear of regal lol
