Darby Allin Speaks With Fightful

Shirleigh (@ShirleighShirlz) represented Fightful and Fightful Select as a correspondent recently, where she spoke with former TNT Champion Darby Allin.

Shirleigh kicked off the interview by complimenting Darby Allin’s pink jacket, admitting she hadn’t expected to see him in pink. Allin responded, “Well, you know, the thing is when I broke my foot and then got hit by a bus, I was watching the show [AEW] a lot. I noticed a lot of people were wearing dark colors.” He added that wearing bright colors would catch your attention if you were flipping through the channels and saw a skeleton with a skateboard in a pink jacket.

When asked if he was enjoying London, Darby told Shirleigh that he didn't know. He explained that he goes into business mode during trips like this. Darby described himself as a hermit who prefers to stay in his hotel room, focusing on his match rather than treating it like a vacation.

Shirleigh mentioned that Darby is now an expert in Coffin matches and asked if he felt confident going into his match with Jack Perry at AEW All In. Darby replied, “Absolutely. You know, it's funny because technically Jack Perry is also undefeated in Coffin matches,” referencing Perry's Final Burial match with Christian Cage at AEW Revolution 2023.

Shirleigh then asked if Darby had a strategy before his match with Perry or if he planned to go in with unabashed chaos. Darby smiled and said, “No, I’m going to make the little boy cry, river. That’s all I got planned.”

Shirleigh played a game called “Numpty or Not,” explaining that “Numpty” means an idiot. She said she would give him some names, and he would say if they were a Numpty or not. Darby joked, “Numpty sounds like an STD.”

The first name she brought up was Sting. Darby said, “No, it would be blasphemy if I called Sting a numpty.” He added that he and Sting talk all the time and that he’s very close to his family.

Next, she mentioned Toni Storm, and Darby said Toni was not a numpty because she is captivating and helped make the women's division a strong company asset.

Shirleigh asked Darby about the former two-time AEW Tag Team Champions, FTR. Darby responded, “No, they are badass, and I love working with them.”

The only person Darby called a “Numpty” was MJF. Darby said MJF is selfish and mentioned a behind-the-scenes video where MJF stated, “I'm like the leader of this company.” Darby countered, saying, “MJF is not leading shit.”

The last name was Tony Khan. Darby said, “Far from it; he changed my life and a lot of people’s lives.” He added, “The sooner people actually realize what the fuck he’s done for everybody, they’ll stop being like children and stop being ungrateful.”

When asked about a typical day, Darby said, “Just literally skateboarding, doing stunts, traveling. I'm always on the move. I'm always doing something. I don't have time to stop and care so much about what's going on online.”

He added, “The thing is, when I'm so busy, there are days I’m traveling around the whole world, and I’m doing stuff, and I’m like, ‘Whoa, I haven't even looked at my phone. I've been having such a good time living.’ So that's like a day in life for me.”

When asked about his bucket list, Darby said Mount Everest is at the top and requires 100% focus. He’s done a lot of training, including climbing the Mendoza and Aconcagua mountains in Argentina and Lobuche Mountain in Nepal. He added that even though he has climbed a lot, he wouldn’t consider himself a mountaineer.

In closing, Darby mentioned that he would also like to go to space. He said, “I think it sounds fun. Growing up and being told that you're going to live the bare minimum life and work a minimum wage job, you start believing that your whole life, and then you finally understand that if you stick to your guns, anything's possible. So now I'm just trying to go overboard with it.”
