Billy Corgan talks TV deal, Vince, Tony Khan, Working in TNA, more
Added 2023-10-16 18:52:25 +0000 UTCThe owner and promoter of the NWA, Billy Corgan, joined the Wrestling Perspective Podcast this week with Dennis Farrell and Lars Frederiksen. Corgan discussed NWA's upcoming PPV event, Samhain, on October 28th in Cleveland. Corgan also mentioned the NWA POWERRR TV taping, which will be the following week in Nashville.
Billy spoke about his aim to reach a wider audience with new TV deals that his company obtained. He said he hopes the NWA gains a younger audience because many fans consume media differently.
Billy told us he began watching wrestling when he was four or five. Billy recalled watching Verne Gagne, Dick The Bruiser, Nick Bockwinkel, and Bobby Heenan.
The Smashing Pumpkins frontman said he romanticizes wrestling, similar to how he glorifies music.
Billy spoke about Vince McMahon and Tony Khan and said the NWA needs to draw money the old-fashioned way. He said they would have to figure out how to do that. Corgan said, “I don't have that much money. I don't have that much fame. I can't leverage all that.”
Billy would tell us when booking the NWA, he would look at how Vince McMahon booked the WWF in the 80s, how Paul Heyman booked ECW, and how Jeff Jarrett and Vince Russo booked TNA.
Corgan said he got attached to what Jarrett and Russo were doing in TNA, but they would lose him because of f***** finishes. He said it was because of Jarrett’s guitar shots and multiple referees. He said he would swear off the product and never return; however, Billy said he’d return because a storyline would grab him.
Corgan discussed collaborating with other wrestling companies. He would love to work with any company in the business. He brought up how there was a WWF vs. NWA show and said he would love a WWE vs. NWA show as a fan. Corgan added, “When I say it, it sounds self-serving.”
Corgan emphasized the value of integrity in NWA’s business dealings and discussed the positive results. Billy also talked about young wrestlers entering the industry and said he thinks we will see a generation of young wrestlers entering the business that will be far more abundant and see more women enter professional wrestling than ever.
Corgan also said the NWA was a welcoming environment for female wrestlers. Corgan brought up NWA’s Women's Division and told us that he thinks that the NWA women's roster is the strongest female roster in all of professional wrestling.
Corgan mentioned bringing Tyrus to NWA and the backlash behind it. Corgan said he cashed a lot of checks because of Tyrus. Corgan added,” If you're going to let that mob book your promotion, you shouldn't run a wrestling promotion.”

2023-10-16 19:54:21 +0000 UTCOn the flip side, Billy. If you're only booking people because they say controversial shit on Fox News and ignore the fact they are literally the worst wrestler in the world, you shouldn't run a wrestling promotion either.
