Some reactions to Tony Khan's tweet

We're told by several people within AEW they were surprised that Tony Khan's tweet about Undertaker/John Cena drawing less than a million viewers ended up going out. From what we understand, Khan doesn't clear his tweets with AEW PR for those asking.  Another source said that those who took issue with it should take a glance at the replies that Tony Khan, Triple H, or any top wrestling executives on any given day.

Of those that we spoke to, there wasn't any real concern or issues with it, and most of the reaction reflected that of social media -- either thinking he shouldn't have tweeted it at all, or thinking it was him having fun with a situation that didn't favor him.  Another pointed out that right after the tweet, he announced a series of matches for next week's Dynamite while people were on his profile.

Dude is a flake

Cody Muncie

I think TK should keep doing it .

Joel Allison

Tony seems incapable of acting like a human being and now his reputation is suffering detrimental effects of it. He's tweeting completely random, unhinged shit and shoehorning that to talk about WWE. Fuck, he's hardly spoken about his OWN company the last 3 days. It's just been about WWE.

Terps

Yeah I haven't liked Tony since the Big Swole thing. That was a mess. Plus he still hasn't addressed the antisemitic BS on the show.

Jahwan Wishardt

Seperating any personal feelings, I did take note from business perspective how UFC’s insane growth in live attendance occurred from Dana White’s vocal opinions on Twitter during the pandemic. I do personally think that growth was due to inspiring people against a lockdown/anti-establishment. But that’s why wrestling fans fell in love with Stone Cold, and much of the nation did Trump.

Michael Buckley

It's just a little cringey. Felt like he was being a little sore about losing idk.

Kian Hartley

Just wait until people find out the things Vince McMahon has literally said and done publicly toward competitors. This was a complete nothingburger.

rocksolid124

Fair lol

rocksolid124

Society may not have lasted if twitter existed in the 90s. Lol

Troy A Palek

I thought they were fantastic. The whiners wouldn't have lasted a day if Twitter existed in the 90s.

rocksolid124

I thought they were quite odd…

Rob Butler

Yeah it's like they want to be mad about something every day. You even have people look for WWE's opinion on the matter like it matters. Vince, Bischoff etc have done worse than this in the past lol. Hell even Dana has done far worse.

slick

I thought it was great 😂. All that post did was alter other people's perceptions of him. He doesn't care about other people's perceptions of him. I'd rather live in a world where he did post it and get to watch the fallout, than a world where he didn't because that world would've been slightly less interesting.

@p_wol

Who gives a shit? Really. WWE has a history of gaslighting and bullying other pro wrestling companies. Shots across the bow in the form of a tweet is hardly an issue

Brian The Dean

Do you see his view numbers daily, for each post? For all you know that IS a jump in views, either way shush idc

Ryan Best

Nobody will care about this in 48 hours. Is it kinda cringe? Maybe. Is he using it to promote? Probably. Is it a big deal? Not really.

Scott Payne

Nobody "stays on your profile" on Twitter. See a tweet and move on. The Taker/Cena tweet has 3million views, the next 3 tweets announcing matches don't even have half of that combined.

ES

Actually no, I think it's awesome and I wish Triple H and Shawn Micheals also acted like this

GarretRan

I don’t like tribalism both WWE & AEW are starting to put on great shows. Both had dark clouds over there heads with Punk & Vince earlier this year & those issues seem to have been dealt with with Punk firing & reports coming out this week that Endeveour have given 99.9% of creative decisions to Triple H & Ari Emnaual blaming Vince & throwing him under the bus for WWE & TKO low stock. With all that being said tweets like this do Tony know favors & he comes across like a man child & embarrassing to be honest. It doesn’t help him or AEW. PR need to tell Tony what he can & can’t tweet. It’s not the first time he tweeted something on twitter that made him & the company look bad. Remember The Big Swole situation last year

Matt Hennessy

I think it's OK to dislike it, but there definitely are people way more worked up about it than they should be.

Rincewind

I've been a fan since the Elite was making waves and I really have grown to dislike TK's trash talk. It started being playful billionaire rivalry, but ever since he publicly disrespected Big Swole without apology, he's had spurts of being beyond inappropriate, bordering problematic. I had to mute him and put "big announcement" in my filters.

Rincewind

It was a bit cringe but everyone is making a huge deal over nothing, he ended up using it to promote matches so probably just benefitted them

Ryan Best

Ok?

Jason O'Dell

Why is everyone so butthurt? They are like overprotective parents towards WWE. Remember when WWE took out an add in the times saying the time warner stock holders should be aware of how ted is using their money? This is nothing lol

slick

Yeah true. But in Swerve and MJF's cases, they're usually in character.

Alex Bradford

The "casual" fan is a myth and engagement does mean money in the current social media age. I saw plenty of people responding to those match announcements.

Doreen Ford

MJF has done it, Swerve responds to trolls all the time, Dax has also done it before. They’re human and passionate about their work it’s just the internet when it’s all said and done.

Jay

The only AEW talent that I see vanity search people is Saraya.

Alex Bradford

Tony needs to find some self control 💀

🏆

Talent shouldn’t really care when they themselves vanity search and reply to trolls. It’s just social media and the tweets aren’t causing harm.

Jay

I mean TK has HIS OWN PANTIES in a bunch of

Chris

Engagement doesn't mean money. No one is talking about any matches he promoted on social media, just his jabs at WWE. I just don't see the point.

derrick hanna

I know I’m saying he meant to say that instead when referring to those who compose themselves in a professional manner

Joe

Nick Khan is a professional, not a 41 year old man child.

Dave Nguyen

If that was the case why not promote a match casuals would tune in for? Seemed strange he went on to promote obscure wrestling matches. Like announce a Jericho or Copeland match while they’re on your profile.

Sjubb

Do you think he runs over to Jericho with his phone out yelling, "Look what I said!"

Kurtis Allen

The only people who truly care are fans and media.

Jason O'Dell

Agree

Trey Sherman

41 years old but his tweets in the last 48 hours makes him look like a petulant 12 year old little boy. Not to mention he has yet to apologize on the Juice Robinson comments landed on TMZ that the NFL is most likely not happy with since he’s part of the ownership group of the Jaguars.

Dave Nguyen

I love how easily Tony can get people's panties in a bunch. LoL.

Jason O'Dell

Should have showed some grace and stayed quiet.

BG

Whether or not you support AEW, I think we can all agree that Tony Khan is cringe as fuck

The Lane Family

Do you think some of the talent in AEW might be a bit embarrassed to see their boss tweeting the stuff he did yesterday and today?

Alex Bradford

What did you want them to do, David?

BG

I know people find it annoying but I just find it entertaining.

Lenny

Ah. Gotcha. Yes they are. Completely and utterly.

BG

Pretty sure its referring to fan tweets under their posts cause god are they vile

Tyler Buuck

Don't let anybody tell u what Shawn or Triple H would or wouldn't do, considering what DX was up to in the 90s lmao

GarretRan

I don’t think it’s that serious but the optics of pettiness and desperation look bad.

Trey Sherman

I grew up in the 90's so to me it's just harmless fun wrestling war stuff and it's funny to see people get so worked up about it. The only time his tweets ever bothered me was the Big Swole stuff. That wasn't cool.

Chad McLaughlin

His reaction today + Ari stating they’d be willing to move Raw to a different day could lead to fireworks.

Trevor D.

The difference is that Triple H probably doesn’t even read the comments he gets from people, let alone reply to them. Tony is just falling into their trap by engaging and he’s not making things better.

Michael Purdin

Sorry? The replies they get or give on any given day? I’ve never seen Micahels or HHH go after fans or make jilted proclamations.

BG

Only reason wwe loaded up that Tuesday roster was they knew they’d lose the ratings battle with the NXT roster. Seemed wwe west overboard with taker, Cena, Cody and others at a minor league wrestling show.

David Amodt

Who cares I welcome the shit talk from both sides because it’s entertaining at the end of the day. It’s literally billionaires and millionaires talking shit to each other 😂

Yousif

I did notice he sent these tweets and announced matches which is kinda genius ngl

Jayson Major

TK just out here stirring shit up. I love it.

Craft Dinner

A nice, measured report as always, SRS! Best $5 I spend each month!

judino28

It's obvious now it was a promoting tactic. You can like it or dislike it, fair enough, but it seems to have worked given the recent engagement on his profile. I personally love this petty stuff.

Doreen Ford

I think you're missing a word in the first paragraph.
