AEW Confident They Will Sign Free Agent Act With WWE Interest
Added 2023-05-24 23:35:01 +0000 UTCBack in February, Mark Davis of Aussie Open implied that the team were free agents. It might not be the case much longer.
Fightful Select has been able to confirm three months later, when Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher vacated their tag titles at Resurgence, that the New Japan Pro Wrestling regulars are currently working without a contract in the company.
Fightful Select learned that WWE had interest in Aussie Open, who had retained a rep for negotiations. However, the latest we’d heard as of Resurgence was that AEW was actually very confident that they were going to sign the duo.
Aussie Open have still been appearing for the NJPW brand, but are not anchored down to a contract there. They have been working in All Elite Wrestling here and there, as well. We’ve been told that several other members of the tag team division have been proponents of bringing them in. WWE has been on a hiring freeze in 2023, but we’re told that they have some supporters in the company as well. Beyond that, we’re told that there have been short term plans for Aussie Open in AEW. even before Mark Davis’s injury, which is said to be a meniscus injury. During the process it was confirmed to Fightful by those close with Aussie Open that Tony Khan actually paid for Mark Davis’ surgery himself, even with the team not under contract.
Kyle Fletcher was scheduled for the May 17 AEW tapings, but was ill and the match was rescheduled for this week. The following Sunday, he announced Davis’ injury and relinquished their tag team titles.

I think it was Dante who got injured but you’re not wrong with the rest

2023-05-25 00:33:52 +0000 UTCAEW does not need two more generic indy wrestlers who can do flips. Let Aussy Open go to the WWE.

2023-05-25 00:27:54 +0000 UTCSCU doesn’t exist anymore, Wingmen are jobbers and no one wants to see them do anything + Haven’t been on TV in forever. Gunns are awful, couldn’t care a single iota about them. Butcher and Blade deserve more time imo, Elite are involved in the BCC feud so they’re not really part of the tag division rn. JAS has a great tag team in 2.0 and yet they’re never featured, it’s always Jericho/Sammy sucking the life out of the show every week. HoB are in the Trios division. There’s not much to pick from here honestly with how teams from stables aren’t featured and/or they’re just entirely mid/terrible and don’t belong on TV like the Gunns and Wingmen.

2023-05-25 00:08:14 +0000 UTCSean was able to confirm that Nick Khan told those with connections in the sporting agency around WrestleMania time which was last month that there were no plan for roster cuts. Maybe a few NXT cuts happen

2023-05-25 00:05:29 +0000 UTCAEW desperately needs a full fledged tag team replenishment. The Trios Title (plus injury to Darius, split of SioG and PnP) killed the tag division, and as much as I love HoB/Death Triangle, I miss how fun the tag division used to be.

2023-05-24 23:48:18 +0000 UTCThey're an absolute no brainer of a signing for whoever would pick them up but they've been having such an insanely fun run then past year and a bit. Plus FTR and AO has to happen again sometime. Preferably FD2 as that would be before my eyes.

2023-05-24 23:47:34 +0000 UTCPaying for the surgery is: 1) Just a cool thing to do 2) A great negotiating tactic to show how you're a good (prospective) boss
