The latest on CM Punk and AEW

CM Punk and All Elite Wrestling have remained in contact over the last week, Fightful Select has been told.

Regarding rumors that Punk was served with legal papers, we’ve been told that some documents were sent to Punk to be signed over the last week We haven’t been given indication they were legal threats but told they covered speaking about certain subjects, disparagement clauses, and ensuring he appears at scheduled television dates, largely to protect AEW in several situations.

From the Punk side of things, we’ve heard that there have been productive conversations over the last week, though we weren’t provided a lot of context to that. People close to Punk believe he will be at the first AEW Collision on June 17.

As of last week, we were not told that Daily’s Place was a backup location discussed explicitly, but were told there were places besides the United Center that were being discussed.

Talent we’ve spoken to in AEW were not given their travel for the first Collision date yet as of May 23.

Punk has barely said anything for the entire time he has been away

Jack McInally

They didn’t get the show because of Punk, Warner isn’t paying them more money and giving them two more hours because of one guy lol the show has been planned for awhile now. It’s happening with or without him, if he comes back then he’ll be the face of the show and if not then they’ll make someone else the face of it. And yeah Punk is a big name a recognizable to casual fans, but the company will go on without him just like they did before him.

FWPJR.

They literally got a new 2 hour show off of Punk. That's going to almost double their TV money. Because of one guy. That seems worth the trouble imo.

Sam O

Watch the ending of Double or Nothing. Money is on Punk comes out and conforts MJF at the end. To continue the All Out angle.

eric Wallis

Let me tell you a personal story about Tony Khan, alright? We do this whole [anti] bully campaign... *Cuts Mic*

Richard Hughes

This whole thing smells like a work CM Punk and TK came up with.

Daniel Rafferty

Oh he's definitely coming back

Kyle Pribila

The ratings barely were up when he was there. Attendance will spike a bit, sure. AEW was in no better position when he was there and he notched left and right.

Jimmy Morecraft

They were doing over one million before Punk, the ratings started going down once the NBA started. The last time they had a night with no NBA during the All Star break they went over a million and it was without Punk, Punk isn’t the entire show or a one man roster. He’s popular and can bring in some fans, but he’s hurt the company way more than helped it.

FWPJR.

How long before the disparagement clause is invoked. Lol

Super Dave Osborne

Ratings say different though. They were at their highest with Punk and while the Elite were suspended and returned there was no real change

Daniel Lee

Hopefully this all ends tomorrow once and for all. I’ve been consistent that I don’t like the drama show that follows Punk. I used to be a huge fan but I do think he’s more trouble than he’s worth. AEW has been on the rise recently, let’s just all make it work out, do some shoot promos and have a successful second show.

Scott R

That one I can’t disagree with but at least he’s better than Meltzer 😂

Daniel Lee

He's coming back

Tucker

Thank you for all you do

Tucker

Don't let the loudness of a few dumbasses stop you from watching something

Tucker

No big names will be on Rampage anymore, SRS reported it’s going to be more like WWF Heat. And it was pretty much like Dark and Elevation. So there might be three shows, but the really important names will be on two shows.

FWPJR.

ah, so when punk told people to come to his locker room to talk things over directly, he had a plan in mind--tell people to come to locker room, punch them, and then profit!

David Feig

Punk’s view is that Illinois “castle doctrine” gives him the right to assault someone who comes into his dressing room in a threatening manner. Whether that would actually hold up in court is a different story, but there is at least a reasonable chance that it would.

Benjamin Brown

He isnt their only draw but with 3 shows they need him and to make other stars they will be stretched to the limit now.

Scott Newcomb

You can sue someone for assault when you throw the first punch. Whether you have a real chance of winning that lawsuit? It's probably more difficult when there are multiple witnesses, including the company's chief legal officer and the head of talent relations, that may not have a version of events that is favorable to the plaintiff.

David Feig

AEW was great before him and they are still putting on great shows now without him, he might bring a few people in to watch the show, but most AEW fans have been fans before he was there. And a lot of AEW fans got into AEW because of the Elite ( including me ), Punk is one of my all time favorites but after all this crap I really don’t care if he returns or not.

FWPJR.

Except he is ratings and attendance says different.

Joel Allison

Raj is always wrong he gets drunk and rambles on twitter.

Joel Allison

This 44-year-old drama queen really isn't worth this nonsense.

John Horton

He’s their only real draw though so they need him

Daniel Lee

So Ra was incorrect about it being legal threats? As Punk could countersue for the assault from EVP’s and making him work injured.

Daniel Lee

A thousand times THIS.

Colin Mathie

Just a reminder- I can't help what anyone else reports

Fightful Select

I just want this to be over with, it’s been such a huge topic in wrestling since September and I can’t wait to end. If Punk stays in AEW or if he goes I don’t even care anymore tbh I just want this to be over and done with. If I had my choice I’d let him go because he’s nothing but a headache, he’s not worth the the trouble imo

FWPJR.

Doesn’t it make sense that Punk wouldn’t want to be announced on a press release by WBD and would rather wait one week until the go home show for a big ppv to get announced? That’s just common sense, when Austin was out from 1999 to 2000 they didn’t announce his return on a random upfront done by the USA network. It’s pro wrestling this is not that serious. I’m sure Punk wanted to keep it a surprise to keep buzz and get more people tuning in tomorrow. And why would Khan not just go ahead and announce a different location if it’s not Chicago rather than have everyone tune in to get disappointed? This isn’t hard to figure out. The IWC drives me closer and closer to stop watching all together, too much stupidity and toxicity over something we should just watch for fun. Chicago will be announced for the first Collision tomorrow. If something different happens tomorrow I’d be shocked.
