Major Changes In Order For AEW
Added 2023-05-17 13:35:00 +0000 UTCThere are some major changes in store for All Elite Wrestling.
AEW Collision is set to be announced imminently, likely in conjunction with the WBD Upfronts. We haven’t heard that Dynamite has also been extended, but we did note recently that Collision will see a big cash infusion for AEW. But that isn’t all that‘s changing.
As of last week, it was believed that there would be a soft roster split for AEW Dynamite and Collision. This would allow talent that didn’t get along to work shows when necessary without the likelihood of conflict that we saw a lot of backstage in AEW in 2022. However, instead, we’re told that talent are expecting a hard brand split, with the exception of many AEW Champions. We’ve been told that there will be additional exceptions here and there. We have not learned how exactly the split will be determined, if there will be a draft, or how that will work out. However, the working plan as of this week is a firm brand split, with some rare exceptions.
Those we’ve spoken to said that bringing back several previously absent talent was planned out, and they were told it was strategic timing to go along with the new show. In addition to talent that naturally needs more television time, several returning talent look to benefit from this move.
The working plan is to film AEW Rampage with Dynamite tapings, and ROH with Collision tapings. Those that we’ve spoken to say that there looks like some WCW Nitro influence to early graphics tied to Collision.

2023-05-17 18:03:18 +0000 UTCI was excited that AEW was getting the second show to showcase more of their talent, I was holding out hope though that even a soft brand split was just speculation. One of the things I dislike most about WWE is the brand split and how they've handled it the past 20 years. I don't have high hopes AEW will do much better. At least for now, there's no talk of having two world champions, and hopefully no more titles unless it's a female tag team title.

2023-05-17 17:51:38 +0000 UTCHonestly I don’t mind a brand split. I think it would be good for Tony to be forced to focus on specific talent for each show, rather than what I was afraid would happen where we get a weekly Jericho segment on BOTH shows. It’s been 3 years of Jericho every episode; my enjoyment and patience for him has worn extremely thin. Anyways; I think this will give more chances for less exposed guys to get on the card.

2023-05-17 17:23:51 +0000 UTCCM Punk literally asked them to come backstage and talk. They did exactly that and then he and Ace Steel went psycho. Maybe he should stop asking for things that he doesn't actually want.

2023-05-17 16:58:59 +0000 UTCThe show has been in the works for awhile I highly doubt they have it purely just for punk

2023-05-17 16:44:17 +0000 UTCThis doesn't bother me, but creating a whole new show because people can't get along is silly to me. And this won't even be a real brand split if Punk will still go on Dynamite when needed and those on Rampage will be seem on Collison. What would be the point of the split. Yes I know WWE has been doing that for years and it's stupid, but at least for the last 2 weeks after Backlash, I guess with the exception of Paul, all Raw stars have stayed on Raw and all SD stars have stayed on SD. If everything was better, then I wouldn't hate this but they throwing money right out the window not doing anything with Punk/Elite/Mox/Hangman and all that. Hopefully everything will be worked out soon but at the very least, we will see more Miro, more Andrade, Thunder Rosa will be back, Hobbs will be a focus, hopefully if we see Joe, we'll see Athena too. She can bring that ROH Championship to the Collision show to have World champions on both shows, have the TBS title float between both brands. The idea is good cause they have the talent just wished it wasn't because of your biggest stars not getting along...

2023-05-17 16:40:12 +0000 UTCMaybe they should focus on trying to fix the personal feuds instead of a split as a bandaid.

2023-05-17 15:20:44 +0000 UTCYou could have the TNT title on one show and the International on the other, unofficially. Buy you are right. No additional titles.

2023-05-17 15:18:03 +0000 UTCI do not want a hard split.

2023-05-17 14:59:54 +0000 UTCSame. I don't really gaf who is "assigned" to work which show. All a brand split means is more TV time for more wrestlers. Sounds like a win to me. Again, assuming there's no additional titles or PPVs to maintain this "two separate entities" situation.

2023-05-17 14:57:11 +0000 UTCI'll be okay with a brand split as long as there aren't 2 world titles.

2023-05-17 14:36:34 +0000 UTCOne thing to keep in mind, SRS said "that talent are expecting a hard brand split," So he is just going by what talent thinks, nothing confirmed by TK. Hopefully those talents are wrong.
Dave Langer
2023-05-17 14:30:53 +0000 UTCI like this idea. A brand split means more TV time for underused talent and navigates conflict by keeping folks away from each other (this happens in non-wrestling workplaces too). I just hope they focus on women a little more with the additional time.
