Details On Kenny Omega's AEW deal, WWE interest

Kenny Omega's contract status has been the subject of much speculation.

With Kenny Omega's AEW contract in question, we've heard from several staff and talent who have heard about the situation. Numerous sources have claimed to have overheard AEW founder Tony Khan say that Omega has substantial injury time that "could be" added to Omega's contract to extend it if AEW chose to. We can confirm that option is in Omega's contract, which is standard in AEW deals. One talent noted that considering that Omega has good representation, that might not necessarily be a slam dunk, or might have some concessions to it. Those we spoke to in AEW also claim that they don't believe the injury time has been added "yet." We reached out to Tony Khan to ask, but haven't heard back.

There was one source that claimed late in 2022 that Omega's deal would be up "soon" and that he could be working without one. Another source familiar with the situation told us that "Omega's deal would not be up that soon," and dispelled that chatter. The latter ended up being the case, as that period has already bypassed.

An interesting note is the amount of chatter emanating from WWE of late, with several in the company believing they have a chance to land Kenny Omega. Despite the AEW/WWE rivalry, we're told that Omega had a positive relationship with WWE, and especially Triple H when discussing the potential of heading to the company in late 2018. Ultimately Kenny chose to go to AEW. Though there have been heavy AEW accusations regarding contract tampering, WWE sources told Fightful they don't believe that was the case with Omega specifically.

It was also reiterated to us that  Omega has it written in his AEW contract that he has the freedom to appear in NJPW as long as it doesn't conflict with AEW duties, or an agreement is made.

Comments

WWE has interest, believes things ended well last time they talked. AEW deal is not up, which people have asked me about weekly on my Q&A There were some that believed the deal was going to be up early this year, it's nnot. AEW has the contractual ability to extend the time, and Tony has said he likely will. Omega's representation may take issue, may not. Your reading comprehension is not my problem. You're welcome to seek your news elsewhere if you need it dumbed down or outright made up.

Again, different situations: saying "the group is speculating about a possibility that another group is speculating about a previous speculation about a possibility" blah blah blah. That's Nonsense. Literally Nothing was said here that meant anything at all.

Will Landrum

Ok, to rephrase. Did you also believe, when SRS broke the Cody news last January, that it was just click bait (cuz that's what you just said this was)?

Troy A Palek

I hope to hell not. Not even Kenny could make me watch WWE and AEW sans The Elite would lose a tonne of what makes it interesting. If WWE ends up monopolizing the industry again, I’m done watching for good

Matthew Daley

He didn't post the same exact thing last January.

Will Landrum

Did you think the same exact thing when he posted the cody story last January?

Troy A Palek

Typically I hate people who do what I'm about to do. But honestly, this is a giant word salad of Nothing. Like, genuinely, this provides Zero information beyond (one group speculated a thing, and another group speculated a thing, and five years ago a thing happened that could be a thing now, but we don't know."

Will Landrum

What people don't realize is there are limited spots, no matter what company. Ok, you bring in Kenny and Jay White. Well guess what, that pushes out two strong wrestlers from their spots, who when their contract is up, they may want to test the waters elsewhere. There's going to be a LOT of back and forth the next few years between both companies.

🤦🏻‍♂️

If you think H wouldn’t do a story with Kenny and Kota you are delusional

Collin Ingram

I just can't believe that Kenny's leaving anytime remotely soon. Cody and the brawlout had to be wakeup calls about respecting the importance of having the evp's around.

Rincewind

Edit!

Shannon Willis

Wwe can’t push everybody. Kenny and jay white would just get lost in the roster over there. Not to mention Cody’s going to have a lengthy run with a title so even less spots to be pushed.

Brandon Souza

He's an EVP, yet nobody in AEW is sure if WWE tampered with him contractually?

Kurtis Allen

Kenny isn’t leaving for WWE, there is a better chance he goes back to Japan full time.

Anthony M

Said it already but I kind of want Kenny to go to WWE because the whiplash in feeling about him the Vincels who would suddenly have to treat him as the great worker he is would be incredible

Dave O'Neill

Oh yeah, this is really in doubt. Kenny had no part in the first Forbidden Door so he’s no doubt doing if healthy. He just went back to Japan, and clearly the Kota Ibushi story story wouldn’t see the light of day in WWE. Come on now, he’s not going anywhere.

Marc

This seems significant. Some of this feels a little like the Cody situation around this time last year. Obviously Omega is less likely to leave, but you never know

Talmadge Patterson

Hes turned them down several times before,he's not leaving
