Swerve Strickland Notes

Swerve Strickland joined The Wrestling Perspective Podcast with Lars Frederiksen and Dennis Farrell. Lars and Dennis talked to the wrestling veteran and music artist on many topics. This interview will air on Sunday, February 5th, 12PM EST.

- Swerve spoke about Parker Boudreaux and about helping wash off the moniker of “The Next Brock Lesnar” and that he puts pressure on himself to do that. Swerve said he feels like the fan base doubts are The Mogul Affiliates.

- Swerve was asked about his work as Killshot in Lucha Underground, and if he missed the character. Swerve said he did not, and said it was similar to “evolution.” He was glad it happened, he said, because it was different.

- On potentially evolving outside of wrestling, Swerve said “that’s one thing I want the fans to cherish, is the time they have with certain performers.” I want fans to cherish the time they have with me, instead of shitting on what I’m doing. He said he always wants to push forward with everything he does, whether wrestling, music, podcast, his brand, etc. He said he’ll know when it’s time to move on to something else.

- He said Pro Wrestling is his true passion before Music. He says being live on AEW every week is good for his music career, because there is a lot of equity to make connections.

- When asked about his promo with Dustin Rhodes on the 01/27/23 AEW Rampage. He went into great detail why he chose Dustin Rhodes to feud with. He wanted to manipulate and weaponize someone’s pain. He said he got the idea after a friend. His friend said he worked well with legends, and Swerve referenced Billy Gunn from the feud Swerve in our Glory had with The Acclaimed.

- Swerve mentioned that when Golden Globe Award Winner Paul Walter Hauser visited AEW for their event at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on January 11th, he told Swerve that he enjoyed the story line he had with Keith Lee. Hauser told him he liked it because they took their time with it.

- He talked more about Dustin more, and he said they can tell a great story, and maybe Dustin Rhodes, who previously said this would be his last year wrestling, doesn’t make it the full year.

- When asked about contending for the World Championship, he is always preparing. He mentions he will go into Tony Khan’s office and tell him that he appreciates everything, but wants to be heated up again. He said he would do the same thing with Triple H and Shawn Michaels when he was at NXT.

- Swerve talked about how he doesn’t think a title does not necessarily define a wrestler. He mentioned how a title could put a wrestler on the next level.  He mentioned Ricky Starks being one of those wrestlers that would go next level.

- He was asked about his music work, and he said that with music and wrestling, you see two different versions of himself.
