March Progress and News

I knew going into March that it was going to be a bad month for getting things done with the Spain trip in the middle of it, and indeed I spent a lot of time prepping for (and actually being on!) that trip. (Spain is lovely, by the way. Most highly recommended. And oh my gosh the FOOD.)

Anyway, here is what did get done in March:

Final set-up for the remaining audiobooks in the Blood Ladders trilogy is complete! I listened to Morgan, Book 3 for errors, sent them off for correction, arranged for a bonus scene for the Kickstarter, and paid the narrator. I also uploaded the audio to all the places it’s going to be for sale (Audible, Findaway, and Bandcamp), so we’re ready to go for the Kickstarter, which I’ll probably launch next week. It’s been a wild ride working with this narrator—very different!—and I enjoyed the experience. I am, however, looking forward to slowing down a little… I might have finally found someone who works at a faster/harder pace than I do! Phew!

Most of my writing progress has, of course, gone into Kherishdar, which was at around 60K at the end of February, I’m pretty sure? I wasn’t keeping track. Anyway, now it’s almost double that. I anticipate being done in mid-April at this rate. In addition to writing, I’ve been working on the language, partially for the sake of the book, partially for pleasure, and partially because it’ll figure largely into the rebranding efforts. So I wrote another Ereseya theme poem, figured out (tentatively) punctuation rules, and added a lot of new words to the lexicon, mostly boring but vital conjunctions and adverbs and pronouns. And I practiced a lot of calligraphy. Knowing I was going to be stuck on a plane for over seven hours (twice!) I brought all my Ai-Naidari resources with me so that I could practice my calligraphy, and this led me to my first experience in book-binding; I printed out the then-current lexicon and glued it into a perfect binding so it would be easier to use on the plane. (And it was!)

Speaking of art, I did some sketching in Spain, and even used some new paint I bought off Etsy, so that was a pleasure. I don’t treat my ‘on vacation’ art as anything serious; it’s usually just an excuse to doodle. But I liked several of the pictures I did this time around.

For my final move in March, I cleared up an issue that was preventing the audiobook edition of Some Things Transcend from moving forward. We should be back on track now, going forward, and I look forward to Jim (affectionately known as Darth Narrator on the Discord server) voicing not just PG2, but all the remaining books in the series.

So, I made some progress in March despite being off for almost two weeks. Not too shabby! Let’s talk about the future, as usual.

Upcoming

As usual, a look at what’s ahead:

The Kickstarter for the audio editions of Books 2 and 3 of Morgan’s trilogy should launch next week. The purpose of this one is to recoup as much of the cost as possible, but I’m not expecting all of it. Every bit will help, though!

I should finish up Kherishdar 4, at which point I will take a deep breath and then have a look at the Jokka!

And, with the Alysha 5 launch in May, expect to see some fun stuff there: maybe a sale, or some promo art, or whatever strikes me as appropriate to drum up interest in the Stardancer books.

That’s what we’ve got from last month… let’s see what April brings us! And as always, your comments, questions and suggestions are welcome. <3

Reading that there are more Jokka stories on the horizon makes me so happy. I found your work on Livejournal when I was very first stuggling with the idea that I might be Transgender. In the years since the stories of the Jokka have really helped me to understand myself and my Trans identity. I still remember taking the quizz about which Jokka sex are you, getting Neuter, and thinking, "Ok, but people aren't actually anything other than men and women in real life." Ha! Younger me was so sure of themselves. ; ] I'm also super looking forward to more audiobooks from the Princes' Game series. I introduced my Partner to your work through the first audiobook and he still asks about the series occasionally. He's not a big reader, but we did marathon the Kherishdar audiobooks, and he loved them so much. He's a huge language nerd so I think those stories really spoke to him. We've been taking turns reading each other the Exception chapters you've been posting. Basically, yay, I'm so glad I'm able to support you on Patreon! Keep up the good work.
