Caturday: The Stalking of the Cat

He's looking at the crows. :D

Anyway, this being the month of my Get Everything Done Because I Guess I Wanted to Work Through the December Holidays, I went ahead and finished up the last of the print editions:

Behold their glory!

No, seriously, Amelie's covers are just amazing. I would totally hire her for new covers but she's too busy. *weeping face*

She was such a joy to work with. <3

All the fancy stuff from the ebook is in the print books! Including all the elven glyphs at the top of the chapters. I was a little disappointed that they weren't exactly like the ones in the ebook until I realized in this version you can actually read the glyphs, which will super-please my conlang-loving fans, who can now use the appendix at the end of Book 3 to page through the chapters of all three volumes to read the "spoilers" I put in the glyphs. :D

Here are the spines, before Amazon's removal of the highly annoying 'you can no longer use the proof copy as your personal copy because it's got a hideous band on it that will bother your perfectionism' band. And the interior, showing off the new placement of the glyph.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL (she said). Audiobook fans, I've also signed a narrator for the audio editions of these books and he is glorious, simply glorious. I'll have an audio sample for the coffee cup subscribers next week so you can melt along with all the Discord people who listened to it and said "O M G." *boings*

Anyway, I need to stop using my weekends to work, except working is fun. How about Christmas recipes? Quick, give me something to bake with Child! We tried spiced nuts yesterday and that was good but I'd prefer something I can make in huge batches without pouring money out my wallet. -_-

Also, I now need to go back and translate all the glyphs **squee**

These are my go to cookies for the festive season. Very easy to make and visually striking. <a href="https://www.taste.com.au/recipes/stained-glass-window-biscuits/b02d8ff1-cde0-4542-9219-7417702a9061" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.taste.com.au/recipes/stained-glass-window-biscuits/b02d8ff1-cde0-4542-9219-7417702a9061</a>

I love oatmeal fudge bars, Travis House cookies (basically meringues made with brown sugar rather than white, stabilized with flour, and loaded with finely chopped nuts), and kourabiedes (similar to Russian tea cakes/Mexican wedding cookies), but if I want a big batch of something cheap and easy, I do mini pretzels with chocolate kisses melted on top, with an M&amp;M pressed in for color while the chocolate is still soft.

What about haystacks? That's just chow mein noodles mixed with chocolate butterscotch chips but you can do add ins. They're a big hit here.<a href="https://www.dinneratthezoo.com/haystack-cookies/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.dinneratthezoo.com/haystack-cookies/</a>

There's a recipe we make, almond poppyseed cookies. So yummy. And i just discovered a marzipan shortbread recipe from King Arthur that is DELISH.

Ooooooh, those are pretty! :D As for recipes... Maybe... Plain shortbread or biscuits? At least when I make biscuits and follow recipes I somehow end up with 2 to 3 times as many biscuits as the recipe says I'll have left. (To be fair some of that is because I like my biscuits nice and thin and the recipes, um, don't.) Personally I'd go with all-spice biscuits, though. They've got a lovely, warm colour and you could both have a lot of fun decorating them for Christmas if you wanted to.

Excellent! I look forward to it. --filkferengi

Should be later this week! It takes a few days between me hitting 'go' and them getting it set up. I'll let you know once it's all straightened out. :D

They're resplendent, but so far only the kindle editions are showing up on amazon. Do you know when the print editions will be available? I'm very ready to spend some make-things-with-Child cash. ;) --filkferengi

:D

*looks this recipe up and ooohs* I could make petit fours, one of my favorite childhood treats...? *rubs hands together*

Try iced fondants. Icing sugar, egg whites (or aquafaba) and flavouring - it doesn’t have to be peppermint. Rose, Parma violet, orange, lemon extract all work well and are both inexpensive, can be whipped up in HUGE batches and are delish 😋
