Caturday: Windowcat

Yes, in mid-November in Florida, we still have blooming heather.

So, midway through November and... what, how is it almost the end of the year. *copious sweating*

Anyway, for a lot of us the big eating holidays are coming! I was thinking about this because one of our local open air markets attracts a marshmallow-maker who sells this ginger spice marshmallow that she recommended toasting on a sweet potato. I don't usually like adding sugar to my sweet potatoes, but I broke one in half and used that half on one and she was right, it *was* good. Mostly because of the ginger flavor. Not something I would have thought to put on sweet potatoes; my go-to is to cut them into wedges, toss them with olive oil, garlic, salt, and black pepper, and then roast them in the oven until their edges get crispy but the centers are nice and soft. Sweet potatoes work unexpectedly well with savory flavors.

What about you? Favorite holiday recipe/food?

Our family does creamed spinach for all our holiday meals. Absolutely my favorite. This year, I have to experiment with ingredients because my mom can’t have onions any more, and she may or may not be lactose intolerant (different doctors, different answers). Should be fun.

I like just roasting sweet potatoes--they're so rich and good!

We always make home-made cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving (last month, in Canada) and Christmas turkeys. Something we used to do was to add a dash of Slivovitz -- a kind of eastern european plum brandy. I'd been given a bottle by my boss many years back. Sadly, it ran out some years ago, and we've never seen fit to replace it. I think I should...

So, you're having a "windowcat time" [to the tune of "Wild Mountain Thyme"], "all around the blooming heather"? ;) --filkferengi
