Collections and Campaigns

Hi folks,

Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!

Neon Inkwell returns this week with Broken Hearted Monsters, a joyful, bittersweet series about grief and acceptance where classic horror meets iconic American road trips.

Broken Hearted Monsters is written by Morgan Ormond and SC Ormond and follows Frank, the estranged creature of Dr Frankenstein who must travel to his former home for his creator’s funeral.

Frank, not wanting to face the bitter reality of an unresolved relationship, chooses instead to use it as an excuse to plan the ultimate road trip across America and inviting his ex-boyfriend, Dracula, along for the ride.

The wounds from their break-up are still fresh as they make their way across country, stopping at mundane tourist traps, eating at tacky diners and dissecting their former romance; the good and the bad.

Before they reach their destination – and a monstrous family reunion – Frank and Dracula have 2000 miles, 9 states, and a whole lot to unpack.

Broken Hearted Monsters launches on the public Neon Inkwell feed on Friday 14th March at 4pm GMT, but Knight and Noble Patreons will get 48-hour early access on Wednesday 12th March. This joyful story is bought to life with an amazing cast and music by Nico Vettese – we can’t wait for you to hear it!

Those of you who use our Patreon Collections may have noticed they had a bit of an update last week! This is another early access feature that Patreon has kindly offered us to improve your experience exploring our bonus content. Content previews now show clearer information on the type of bonuses available (audio, video, image, link, etc.) and more items can be seen on screen at once on desktop, making it quicker and easier to find exactly what you’re searching for or browse through what’s available.

If you’re not familiar with our Collections, you can find them under the Collections tab on the Rusty Quill page on mobile or desktop. We have used them to organise our Patreon content into groups based around shows, bonus content, and a few particularly popular highlights, such as TTRPG one shots, Magnus Fluff episodes and the Stellar Firma music album, Cabaret Night at the Cosmic Lounge. If there are any Collections you’d like to see to help you find and explore what’s available on our Patreon, let us know in the comments!

Another recent update we have for you is a brand-new merchandise store: Dashery. Dashery features all of the same Rusty Quill designs and products as its sister site, Teepublic, but as a brand-new Rusty Quill branded storefront. You can find the Rusty Quill Dashery on our website, or by visiting rusty-quill.dashery.com .

This week, on The Magnus Protocol, Gwen has a meeting. Episode 33 will be available in early access on Tuesday at 4pm GMT and publicly on Thursday at 4pm GMT. Please be aware that for the next couple of weeks, the clocks are changing in different countries on different dates. Consequently, depending on where you are based, the episode may release at a different time than you usually expect it to.

Finally, we wanted to let you know about two amazing crowdfunding campaigns that are currently happening.

Firstly, Monte Cook’s campaign for an expansion to The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game finishes in just three days. Thanks to the generosity of backers they have unlocked some amazing extras as stretch goals while the campaign has been running, including an art book, a collection of stickers, more props to go alongside your game, and Jonathan Sims reading statements for your adventures! This campaign is for an expansion to the original game, but every pledge includes a free PDF of the corebook, meaning even if you’re a new player you can support the project and start your own Magnus game. Add-ons include an actual Leitner in the form of Dig (if you’re brave enough to read it), and a set of Leitner Dust Jackets that turn your own books into immersive props. The campaign finishes on 13th March, so back soon to avoid missing out on some incredible Magnus items. However, before the campaign closes it will be going into Overtime, meaning that so long as the Backer Train is still active and folks are still backing it, it won’t close, giving as many folks as possible a chance to donate.

Lastly, RQ Network show, Not Quite Dead launched a campaign to fund its fourth season last week! Not Quite Dead is a gory horror romance audio drama, following Alfie, an A&E nurse whose life is changed forever when a string of violent attacks on his patients leads him to meeting Casper, a vampire. The campaign, run by the show’s creator Eira Major, was fully funded in just a few days and is now looking at some stretch goals, including a bonus minisode, extra episodes, and more. You can check out the Kickstarter today to support this amazing show, or listen to all of the previous episodes wherever you find podcasts and on the Rusty Quill website.

Have a good week all!

I read the script for Broken Hearted Monsters, and immediately thought of what would happen if you mixed the soundtracks of Juno and Scott Pilgrim and mixed in sounds from vintage horror movies. Playing a theremin through a distortion pedal is far more fun than you ever think it would be <3

Huge appreciation for the collections work 🙏 been noticing them pop up, thanks to whomever is doing the categorization work to make it happen 🥰
