Paper Stretching In 60 Seconds

This is a quick refresher on my paper stretching method.

With everyone's time in mind I have shortened it down to the bare essentials.

Materials:

1. Stonehenge paper, made by a company called Legion. The version that I use is 120 lb. Try this link if you are in the USA. And this link if you are in Europe. (the USA supplier link is currently out of stock but will be restocked soon).

2. Staple gun

3. Water

4. 16x20 inch cradled panel. This link if you are in the USA. This link if you are in Europe.

I have tried this with Stonehead Royal paper. At the time I did not experience any adverse results. I think your intuition may be correct about oversaturating the paper. I'm curious to know what happened if you tried it again while soaking the paper a little bit less.

I recently attempted this process using Stonehenge Oil Paper, but it didn’t go well. I may have oversaturated the paper—just lifting the edge to begin wrapping around the frame caused it to fall apart in my fingers. When I tried folding the corners carefully, the paper immediately ripped with slighted pressure and nearly dissolved. Have you worked with Stonehenge Oil Paper in this way before? Would you recommend a lighter spritzing rather than fully saturating it? I love painting on this paper and typically mount it to a panel with PVA glue, but I was hoping the wrapped edges would be a nicer finish.

Hi Aguissa, I would try Jackson's Art in the UK: https://www.jacksonsart.com/stonehenge-paper-warm-white-90lb-250gsm-22x30in-56x76cm-smooth-flawless-slightly-mottled-surface-to-resemble-vellum-100-cotton-fibers-acid-free-two-deckle-edges
